Cave Story - http://agtp.romhack.net/doukutsu.html You’re no indie gamer if you haven’t played this one. With a brilliant story, colorful graphics and awesome 8-bit music, this is THE indie game. Very famous, fun and really deep platformer.

Within a Deep Forest - http://withinadeepforest.ni2.se/ An incredibly well done mix between a puzzle and a platformer, with a brilliant music composition and a very nice level design.

Every Extend - http://www.vector.co.jp/download/fil.../ff327077.html A very unique concept executed brilliantly. Every Extend Extra (PSP) is based on this game. You could probably catalog it as puzzle/shooter

N - http://www.harveycartel.org/metanet/n.html A fun (and very frustrating!) platformer. You play as a ninja, what else do you need?

And Yet It Moves- http://www.andyetitmoves.at/ Fun, short game with cool paper cut-out visual style

I figure this is as good a place as any to ask: what's the deal with soulseek? Some of my friends evangelize about it, what makes it different than the other P2P programs?

armitage: soulseek is the best p2p program for music, period. also has great chat rooms focused on whatever genre you're after, it covers everything and if it doesn't you just make your own room.

is the wolfenstein game listed the same as RTCW or what?

I'm glad somebody made this thread because I'm looking for a good AIM client now that I'm using Vista.

-- DeadAIM doesn't work in Vista
-- Miranda doesn't have tabs by default
-- GAIM file transfers don't work
-- Pidgin's away message doesn't work.
-- Trillian doesn't have tabs by default, and is a cluttered mess.

Ideally, I'm looking for something like Pidgin, but with an away message that works!!!

I'm using Vista too.

I just tried to activate some of the Adobe CS3 trial software to no avail. I'm going to pursue alternative paths but I could do with something to clean the registry so my PC doesn't get all clogged up.

Anyone know of any quality registry cleaners?

Also add www.BitComet.com to the torrent section. Meant to be one of the best alongside Azureus.

Bitcomet has a lot of exploits for it, so its banned from a good portion of trackers.

ImmunizeNOW! v1.4.7 - http://www.mntolympus.org/ (scroll down)
-Prevents / Immunizes against spyware, adware, dialers, browser hijackers etc (including ActiveX and Javascript based) being installed in the first place. Doesn't need to be launched or be in the background to protect.
-Recommended for Vista users because SpywareBlaster/Guard isn't Vista compatible yet. Having many layers of spyware/malware protection is a good idea anyway!

Recycle Bin Secure Delete v2 - http://www.mntolympus.org/ (scroll down)
- Secure Delete offers convenient and no-cost way to ensure your files and folders are securely deleted off of your hard drive and unrecoverable to prying eyes, simply right-click on Windows Recycle Bin and select "Secure Delete".
-Not sure if this works with Vista...please give some feedback about compatibility if you're using this on Vista.

check under system utilities, i added some registry cleaners to the list, try it and tell me if it works.

I used CCleaner as a general cleanup tool and Free Window Registry Repair to repair any registry errors. Both work with Vista, easy to use, fast to do their job. Despite my PC being 2 days old Registry Repair found 1500+ errors and fixed them for me.

I'd recommend both of them. It's a good idea to clean out and repair the registry every now and then to keep your PC in good shape.

Of course. I've installed anti-virus, several anti-spyware/malware, firefox, winscp, msn, xfire, azureus, divx, zipgenius6, most of adobe cs3, and lots of other stuff. Because it's Vista I've also had to uninstall things that turned out not to be compatible yet.

Which reminds me...

ZipGenius 6 - http://www.softpedia.com/get/Compression-tools/ZipGenius.shtml
Compress/Extract almost any kind of archive

Most of the registry errors were some missing divx files/folders and a lot of cs3 pre-installation stuff that I've removed. I needed a registry cleaner specifically because I knew it would be full of cs3 crap that I'd removed and reinstalled.

Good program though. Will use it relatively regularly to keep the registry clean.

I am pretty ignorant of FTP, but are there any free programs that can turn your PC or Mac into a FTP server so that you can share large files with other users?

I am trying to find an easy way to send large amounts of photos or videos to friends and family. The upload sites seem to be flaky most of the times and often crap out at the very end of the upload or downloading process.

Yeah but I think Avast or AntiVir are more practical now. Check out their websites. AVG just looked like a lot of hassle having everything separated...and you do get the feeling that it isn't going to be reliably free for long.

What's the closest analog to VirtualDub for OS X? Anybody have any recommendations? My MBP is a beast at encoding things, but it's not as useful as it could be since I do all the basic stuff in VirtualDub on my PC. In the same vein, how about a simple, clean LAME/Ogg Vorbis/FLAC(/AAC?) encoder like WinLAME on Windows?

Hit F5 in Media Player Classic.

Or if you have that crappy DVD software player that gets bundled with drives for Windows (power something?) you can capture that way.

Nevermind, I can just "print screen" in WMP. It's just that on my old PC that didn't work with capturing images from video for some reason.

Actually, you'll have to turn off hardware acceleration or whatever it is in the options to be able to capture from WMP. Try that on your old PC, but it sounds like you got it working anyways. :)
