Neogaf's Top Movies of the Decade 2010-2019

LU37wGI.jpg

Let's see what you think of the cinematic achievements of this decade. This is primarily to share our love of movies and to find hidden gems, but I will likely use the posts here to do a ranking later on, so if you want to participate just make sure you rank and number your movies. You can list as many as you want but only 10 (or less) will count toward the result. If you don't feel like ranking your movies you're still welcome to post but your post won't count toward the result. I will count the votes manually so no special formatting is required.

If you want to write a few lines about some of your movies that's great and your comments might be included in the official ranking. But it's definitely not required.

Premilinary deadline for voting is december 31st.

Nevermind, this probably won't work without more structure. Just share your top movies. 🥳 I might do a ranking based on number of top 10 mentions instead if there are enough posts.

Some inspiration:

Cloud Atlas
Dredd
Inception
John wick
Baby driver
Django Unchained
About Time
Snowpiercer
Now you see me (I know it's cheesy but I like it!)
Pacific rim (I know it's dumb but I like it! fuck yeah giant robot fighting kaiju)

Number one movie of all time:
TLJ! /s

Below top 10 I wanted to mention:
Edge of Tomorrow
Nightcrawler
The Raid: Redemption
The avengers just cause that first time seeing the marvel characters all come together in the same movie was a 'wow' moment.

I'm not a massive movie buff so there are plenty of hightly rated stuff I haven't watched.

If those are in order you should number them. And I agree on Pacific Rim. 😁

Does the order matter for the way you're going to calculate points?
That's the idea but we'll see. If few people are interested in numbering their picks I might just change the system so all movies in someone's top 10 get one point each.

Under the Skin
Nocturnal Animals
Blade Runner 2049
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
Kiss of the Damned
The Hateful Eight
Interstellar
Spring Breakers
The Nice Guys
Banshee Chapter
It Follows
The Irishman (watched it last night. Great).

Double edit. It's 12, but the rules have been relaxed.

I had a look at the IMDB list and there's a lot I haven't seen, but overall not that great a decade for films. But still better than the previous one (maybe).

Any decade up to the 80's there would be an easy 10 every year.

This is my personal best movies list, it would be a different list if it was most influential movies of the decade.

1. Avengers: Infinity War (If I'm choosing an MCU movie, I'll pick the best, otherwise 2-10 would be juggling Ragnarok, Winter Soldier or Avengers for a spot)
2. Blade Runner 2049
3. The Raid: Redemption
4. The Wolf of Wall Street
5. Her
6. Before Midnight (its the only part of the trilogy released in this decade so it makes the cut)
7. John Wick
8. Inception
9. La La Land
10. The Grandmaster

Wolf of Wallstreet
The Hobbit Part 2
Hell or Highwater
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
Godzilla 2015
The Greatest Showman
Jurassic World 1
Mission Impossible Fallout
The Revenant

1. Buried – I do feel like Buried is very underrated. I was totally swept up in the emotions that Ryan Reynolds experiences. There are nitpicks about how he handles the situation, but those never once crossed my mind while watching.

2. Ex Machina – The Beach was great, 28 Days Later was great, Sunshine was amazing so it’s no surprise that I would love Alex Garland’s next project Ex Machina. An intelligent and expertly crafted film, and I’m a sucker for beautiful cinematography too. Unfortunately the recent Annihilation did nothing for me.

3. We Need to Talk About Kevin – A film about a school shooting. I particularly like how it’s not cut and dry whether the kid is just nuts to begin with and how much did the way his mother raise him influence him.

Rest of top 10:
Love and Other Drugs
Interstellar
Prisoners
The Tree of Life
The Descendants
Drive
The Grey

Other great stuff:
A Serbian Film
It Follows
The Dark Knight Rises
Edge of Tomorrow
Pacific Rim
The Ritual
Mad Max: Fury Road
The Act of Killing
Rush
Blair Witch
127 Hours
Black Death
Mission Impossible Series
Grave Encounters
The Shack
21 Jump Street
Europa Report
Dread
Looper
Triple Frontier

Rentahamster

Rodent Whores
That seems like an odd duck in that list, and it wasn't that well recieved. Is it that good?
I thought it had nice visuals, and an interesting concept. Overall, however, I didn't like the writing, and thought the movie was dumb. Not the worst thing in the world, but I have no interest in rewatching it.

It's weird that there doesn't seem to be a good way to sort imdb movies both by ranking and by decade.

lol depends on the person I guess I :messenger_heart: Neill Blomkamp movies even Chappie. I guess this one really hypes me up & I'm really rooting for Matt Damon's character. Hes your average loner guy with no friends/family part of the 99% trying to be productive, decent & a good worker, but then gets effed over by the company he works for and is left to die & his only chance for survival is to get to where the 1% rich/wealthy people live where he can be cured & saved with their machines. Thats the basic premise, but along the way some twists and turns take place that really tests Matt Damon's character & forces him to make some really hard decisions that ends with a message that I really like.

I might be forgetting a few movies, but from what I can remember:

1. Mad Max Fury Road (far above the rest)
2. Captain America: The Winter Soldier
3. Kesari (this is 300 in India, go watch it, seriously)
4. Dredd
5. Interstellar
6. Logan
7. Blade Runner 2049
8. Avengers Infinity War

Lincoln
Interstellar

Arrival

Sicario

There's like a handful of mainstream directors who can resist the god awful trend of rapid cutting and writing your movies around action set pieces instead of your actors, and they're pretty much all on this list.

Guilty pleasure: The Lego Movie and Replicas and Knock Knock, two Keanu Reeves movies I thought were really entertaining.

I no particular order:

Mad Max Fury Road
Inception
Blade Runner 2049
Snowpiercer
The Raid 1&2
Django Unchained
Parasite
Arrival
Redline (first showing was in some festival in 2009 but the large scale release was in 2010 so I say it counts)
Avengers infinity war

No particular order.

Whiplash
Kimi no Na wa
Mad Max: Fury Road
Shoplifters
The Intouchables
Inside Out
The Social Network
Gone Girl
Manchester by the Sea
Girls und Panzer der Film

I kind of want to put Boyhood on there but nah.

One movie that I think gets no attention (mainstream anyway) is Nightcrawler.

I’m not sure there’s been a better complete acting performance this decade than Jake Gyllenhaal in Nightcrawler. Stunning that he wasn’t even nominated.

Text list of our choices:

http://txt.do/1ovvh

Didn't include kurisu_1974 (too lazy to remove the years might edit later) & TrainedRage (joke post?). Gonna sort through the list later I think Blade Runner 2049, Interstellar, Inception and Whiplash are topping the list.

Interesting to see a bunch of Infinity Wars but not a single Endgame.

And critic’s choice Moonlight didn’t get a single mention either.

I barely checked out new films over the decade. Even a big (former) James Bond fan couldn't get his arse to the cinema because I did not like the direction the series was going. I did check out Inception, Blade Runner 2049, Ghost in the Shell, Mad Max: Fury Road and thought they were all pretty great films. And...I still want to check out Joker.
