Kanzenshuu:
Today’s 2014 #18 issue of Viz’s digital, English-language Weekly Shonen Jump announces that the company will publish a special chapter of Dragon Ball — presumably the Jaco the Galactic Patrolman collected-edition bonus comic which we know to be titled Dragon Ball Minus in Japan — in next week’s issue.

Dragon Ball Minus is set to cover Goku’s life before heading to Earth along with introducing Gine, the character’s mother, for the first time. The existence of Gine and a tease about her upcoming inclusion was first divulged by Jaco the Galactic Patrolman and Dragon Ball manga author Akira Toriyama in a special Q&A back in the March 2014 issue of Saikyō Jump. The issue featured a bonus pack-in of a “Super Kanzenban” for Naho Ooishi’s Episode of Bardock manga.

Jaco the Galactic Patrolman was an 11-chapter manga series by Akira Toriyama that ran from the 2013 #33–44 issues of Weekly Shōnen Jump in Japan, and also saw a simultaneous digital release in English by Viz. Originally teased by Shueisha as the “shocking revival of Dragon Ball!!”, by the series’ completion it became clear that it was indeed a true prequel to Dragon Ball.

Viz will release their English-language collected edition of the series, both digitally and in print, in January 2015.

Neat! Jaco was fun and I've been pretty impressed with the digital version of Shonen Jump. They manage to constantly keep the content fresh and the price really can't be beat.

Man I nearly lost it when I read this, but then it's the chapter that we've all known was coming. Should still be good though. Jaco was great.

Slight off topic, but do you get full access to back issues of all the series too with a subscription? Or is it like most other e-mags where you just get access to the ones that come out while you are paying?

Goku had no childhood before Earth? Kid was literally born and shipped off to Earth before Planet Vegeta was destroyed no?

Here's hoping they retcon GT and Dragon Ball Online, and create a new series/manga for the lost decade between the end of Kid Buu and Uub in the tournament, and then hopefully build off of it. The latest movie was a nice start.

Well reading your replies seems like a nostalgia reaction, cant blame you then. My intro to anime was Captain Tsubasa, Macross and Heidi, Girl of the Alps. I for sure have some over-reverence towards the three

The whole issue will be Goku crying and Broly raging.

Gt is already retcon. There probably wont be a new show but there is a high chance for a new movie.

Hopefully. I know many don't consider it canon at all. Only the original Manga, while others are favorable to DBZ including its filler. I've never really liked GT, I felt some of its storylines could have been used much better had Toriyama stayed and they actually put out a quality show, didn't try and half ass it for ratings. Dragon Ball Online was just crap and I don't even like considering any of it as canon either.

The whole issue will be Goku crying and Broly raging.

Yeah that's exactly what I'm thinking. The kid was in diapers when he was shipped off and when Grandpa Gohan found him. His mother was supposedly a member of Bardock's team who no longer wanted to join in and quit. But it would be just a short time before Frieza destroyed the planet as it is. How much can they really shown of Goku with his mom?

You get your back issues of Shonen Jump, so in that sense you get the back issues of the ones currently running in the magazine by way of each issue of the magazine. You don't get collected volumes or anything like that, of either the volumes released before you started your subscription or ones that came out after. Make sense?

Original DB was awesome, he just went full retard with DB Z

Nope, DBZ was awesome, if only for the epic fights.

Everyone looks for something different in anime/manga, I don't know why people have to shit on things they don't like. Honestly I feel like most shonen is mediocre, if you really get right down to it. But there are some amazing moments to be had in the best ones.

Should be interesting to see, I think, and compare Gine to all the fan speculation that has cropped up over the years.

Personally, I preferred Riiki from an older fanfic back in the late 90s, who was about as powerful as the old King, looked like a female version of Radditz with bangs and several scars.

I really like Toriyama's one offs. This one and Nekomajin were really good Dragon Ball spin-offs/satire.

I know at this point is virtually impossible but I would love to see Toriyama trying a new long manga again.

Jaco, his most recent weekly work, nearly killed him and that was only 10 chapters. At best, I could see him being a writer or "producer" on a work, but he doesn't have it in him anymore to do it all.

He would die from the work load.

Does any one remember why Saiyan babies were stored in pods? I seem to remember that scene when Goku's crying pissed off Broly.

Where in the fuck am I supposed to read this Jaco comic? I keep looking for places to buy it digitally, and Viz keeps giving me the finger.

So is battle of gods worth watching? I figured there would be an english dub out sooner or later and would prefer to watch that because of nostalgia, but since I haven't heard anything I guess I'll cave and see it subbed if it's good.

Legally, your only option is to buy the issues of Shonen Jump that it came out in. The first issue is July 15 2003, but I don't know if you can even go back that far. Not sure of the last issue either... It did go on for 10 weeks, but I'm unsure of any breaks taken.

Otherwise, you can wait, but it could be awhile before it comes out here. They haven't announced anything on that.

As others have already said, Goku was sent to Earth as a baby, so what exactly is Goku's life before Earth?

People who say that must not have read Jaco.
Goku was like 2 years old when Grandpa Gohan found him. He wore Saiyan armor, was walking on two legs, tried to attack Gohan, and stuff.

The Bardock OVA is not canon, let alone the Broly OVAs.
