Grey, and on DS so Andrex and I can be right.

I used to be one of those people. It's too late now. Next game is gonna be 3DS and its gonna look good. They really improved on graphics from Platinum to HG/SS to B/W so I think this game is going to be a stunner...well by Game Freak standards.

They're running out of spinoffs they could announce though so it's basically going to be a new game.

Sure it could be an MD game, or a Snap game (would be incredible on Wii/Wii U/ or 3DS by the way, make it happen) or I guess a TCG game (not a chance) but honestly, its about time for a new mainline game...that'll be a remake or a 3rd version.

Pokémon Puzzle League 3: Only Game Ash Himself Appears
Pokémon Trozei 3D: More and More Pokémon Heads!
PokéPark 3: Keldeo and His Friends
Hey You! Pikachu Family: Including Newcomer Emolga!
Pokémon Ranch Unova Edition
Pokémon Channel 2: With Your Host Snivy
Ambrella only just finished "Super Pokemon Rumble: The frist Pokemon game on 3DS with 30 billion varvieties and not a single one shiny" (which they're proud of rushing to be the first) so those would be too soon.

I wish they'd put a Ranch/Park type thing out where you basically move all your pokes from B/W/G and keep them for whatever comes next. Kind of a little "Off-Season" manager. It can be on 3DS or Wii. I thought that's what Pokemon Ranch would be, but then you could only move them back to Gen IV.
Thought it was worse than that. You could only move them back to the same Trainer (i.e. same game).

A true successor to Pokémon Stadium will also be appreciated (and about as likely as Nintendo developing for iOS).

Please be something that makes me give a shit about Pokemon again. I've not played one since Silver/Gold/TCG.
What you're looking for is Black or White and it's lovely and I hadn't played since Gold either and it pulled me right back in and was instantly the best Pokémon ever. Not just in a "it's the newest and has the most features" way, but in a from top-to-bottom, design, aesthetics, atmosphere, soundtrack, fun and sense of childlike wonder, it was the best.

3DS only. Direct sequel to BW.
well that's more wishful thinking
Gen 5.5: finish Unova and discover the next region (limited, Gen 6 will fully flesh it out)

It's like reverse Gen II.

You didn't play Black and White ? Your loss, sir.

I know it sounds ignorant, but from what I've seen/read/heard, there hasn't been a radical enough change to the core formula for me to want to bite for 40+ hours of the same game I played back on my GBC.

So, expecting that, I guess I'll never be playing a Pokemon game again unless it's TCG2. It's sort of unfair how I'd give TCG2 a complete pass for preserving the exact same mechanics as the first. I guess I just prefer the actual game of TCG more than a mainline Pokemon game.

EDIT: Goddamnit, Suairyu. You make me want to play it now.

There have been so many behind the scenes changes since gen two that in many ways its hardly the same game...despite being basically the same game.

The perspectives you'll have read will have been from those who've played pretty much all of them. You haven't played since GSC- the amount of change will be much more dramatic for you.

Besides, a lot of the reason B/W is such a success is they approach things differently. The 'only new Pokemon' rule makes it so much better.

I hadn't played Pokémon since Red either. Well, I'd dabbled with my friend's Gold (and I really wanted Silver for myself, but by the time I could afford it I was past Pokémon) and White was my re-introduction to the series.

What a fantastic re-introduction that was. I've fallen completely in love with the series all over. The main points that helped this:

- Restricting wild and opponent Pokémon to only the 150ish new designs. This was a very clever design move, as just with playing Red for the first time it gives a manageable pool of brand new creatures to experiment with and (importantly) learn. I can recall all original 151 Pokémon from Red, I'm close to that with the White/Black set. Now the post-game is open I can catch all the other Pokémon, but I'll never be able to remember them all or, frankly, desire to really use them. It also helps that the new designs are mostly excellent.

- Having two rivals, both of them your friends rather than enemies. It creates such a whimsical tone to the early parts of the story. You have two virtual people that are just as excited as you to be setting off on the adventure and will want to share the excitement with you, rather than some asshole who just happens to be related to Oak. It creates an in-game version of having friends who also got the latest Pokémon game, essentially virtualising the social appeal of the franchise to a degree. There is also some (kid's level) depth to each character, as they have stories, motivations and doubts. Each rival goes through an arc of their own through the course of the game with a satisfying pay-off, especially Bianca.

- The cities and towns are incredible. I'm told they're the best in the series so far; it shows. Every new city has tons to do and see and all feel distinct from one another. Despite being a very linear Pokémon, it retains the sense of exploration and wonder thanks to the well-made areas. You always want to push forward to see what is coming up next, yet you are also sad to leave each area as they have been a home base for a few hours as you prepared to face each gym leader. This is all enabled by an excellent art style that pops off the screen in a cartoon wonder-glow.

- It asks the "isn't it cruel to catch Pokémon?" question. Granted, it never really follows through the question other than with some vague handwaving (else kids would feel evil playing the game, I guess), but that it addresses the ideas you've been harboring ever since you turned 14 and started thinking about the concept critically is a boon the story. It gives the narrative real purpose and urgency. It also lightly brushes over the topic of how fucked up it is to let 10 year olds go off on Pokémon adventures. In this way, the game feels like it's making nods to us grown ups every now and again. It's good.

- I hate using the word for anything that isn't The Odyssey or The Illiad, but by the end of it, the story feels so damn epic. Really. Dat ending.

In short - playing White as an adult was like playing Red as a child. It just has that undefinable magic about it. You can't go wrong with B/W.
Seriously, man, everything just 'clicks' with Black/White and you feel like a kid getting up early to catch the Pokémon anime again. Trust us; you will love it.

Pretty sure that the last few mainline games were all revealed exclusively in CoroCoro Magazine so it sounds like Gray's announcement is incoming.

Except the story, which is probably shittier than all the previous iterations.
I have no idea about anything post gold, but I thought the story was really good for what it was. Certainly better than Gen I and II. All the gym leaders being friends and meeting up, how Team Plasma's actions overlapped your own quest rather than simply being obstacles along the way, the genuine narrative purpose to you needing to get all badges and beat the elite four, rather than a simple one-dimensional wish to be the very best (which is satirised excellently in your friend/rival Cheren)... I dunno, it just all added up to something surprisingly good.

No one plot element existed in a vaccuum. Everything overlapped.

On paper it sounds good, but the execution was crap. I have to give them props for trying to advance the narrative, but they still have a ways to go.
This is factually incorrect.

Gen 1 barely had a story, and Gen 2's was just stupid.
Yeah but those were less offensive to my intelligence, though I haven't played them in quite a while.

This would make a lot of sense and would certainly be a crowd pleaser. Good way to get something onto the system quickly without being a total clone.

I just realized that the girl MC will most likely have a new and better outfit than Black and White. :D I'd be okay with a completely different design altogether.

Pokemon story? Why are people bringing that up? They're all really poor and just excuses for me to go catch monsters and make them fight each other for my amusement. B/W is mechanically the best Pokemon game ever made, but the core formula of 'catch/battle Pokemon, get badges, do random story, become champ' will never go away.

And really who cares? It isn't like they release one of these games every year for the formula to go stale. We get a new core Pokemon game every couple of years if we're lucky. I'll take it.

Now gimme Grey on the 3DS. Its unlikely we're getting a fully 3D version using the 3D Pokedex models, but ideally that what I want.

Please don't let it be Grey. Am I the only person disappointed by how fucking battlebattlebattle-obsessed B/W were? I want contests! I want a casino! I want the Pokeathelon! But no, we only get those musicals, which are worthless beyond the slight entertainment provided by your first encounter with them. I like battling, but you should be able to do other things in the post-game, dammit.

So yeah...ShinyRuby and SparklingSapphire! Come on Nintendo!

The only thing I hate about new pokemon games, and maybe there was a way to disable this, but I do 95% of my gaming at night. So basically every goddamn time I played Black, it was night time outside in the game. Fucking sucked. Wish they'd just do sped up day/night cycles instead of realtime bullshit.

Once again there might have been a way to disable that, but I didn't know of a way.

Coro Coro always drops the bomb.

It's gonna be Grey, and I'm gonna say 3DS exclusive.

You forgot what happened a few months ago?

You just have to change the DS' internal clock.
People hated B/W story? It had the best story of all Pokemon games!
You say that like it is an accomplishment.

I don't follow pokemon. Is it about time for a new non-spin off Pokemon? I've never played one but have been thinking about buying one to play on my new 3ds.

Ended up being disappointed by B/W but that might've been because of burnout. Beat the Elite 4 and that was it. Didn't feel at all compelled to continue.

Despite this, I find myself hyped for a possible 3DS-enhanced Grey version (the regular versions should have been 3DS enhanced at launch though).

If it is 3DS enhanced or 3DS only, will it use the OS level invites and friends list? Will it have MK7's communities? That alone would elevate B/W into god tier.

Third versions usually add extras like those.
