I do have to say, I'd care a lot more about this game if it were an original IP, not Sonic. Why not have an original series about a hero who travels through the worlds of literature?

Anyone hoping Sega takes a page from Capcom and releases Sonic the Hedgehog 4 (& Knuckles) in awesome 16-bit 2D for PSN/WiiWare/XBLA?

Are there more examples of the level design? I see no excessive use of bottomless pits and boost pads. That's at least got me interested.

I've also seen screens of more open areas. What do those play like? It's not on rails like SatSR, right?

No. Classic Sonic is great, but I personally would not be satisfied with such a venture, not until they make a Sonic Unleashed day-only type game. That would be the challenge for them...

Well you know, brand recognition, sales and all that.

No Item boxes and no rings either. At least that's what I've seen missing in all the released pics and videos.

SU was still pretty bad in the day levels compared to the old Sonics. What sega has failed to learn for a long time is that, while Sonic is supposed to be fast, you are supposed to work for that fast movement. SU felt like a "Hold right-a-thon". Then again I didn't play too many day levels, I got bored of the Werehog almost instantly and couldn't muscle through very far, but what I saw wasn't strategic at all. It was trial and error. The old Sonics knew when to slow down(and no not become a Werehog) while the new ones never think about taking it easy.

Looks about a hundred times better than Secret Rings and Unleashed combined. While I doubt it'll be a great game, or even a very good game, it's definitely an improvement.

I had to.
Awesome :) that's the whole reason I said that, i wanted to wait and see how long it took for someone to quote my avatar. I like Sonic games, but i don't defend trash. On the SEGA America forums in the Sonic board they defend Sonic The Hedgehog XBOX 360 saying it's a good game.

Nah, Secret Rings was good, this looks to be the same way. Just hope they fix a few of the dumb things about SatSR.
I don't think there is any doubt that it will be better than Unleashed, though that game could have been decent if they had just made the entire game like the demo sans stupid werehog bullshit.

I thought it was the best 3D Sonic yet made and a lot of fun, personally. It was light years beyond everything they've done since the Genesis days...it just starts out a bit rough.
But you see, that's not saying much, and while it might be true, it was still truly awful.

Okay what the hell Sega. The concept makes no sense. What is knightly about Sonic? Why not just make this a new IP? Making a bunch of different games with gameplay that is something else with a dash of Sonic and just throwing him(or a look-alike) in there doesn't make a good game idea. In terms of gameplay, I can't really be positive either. An on-rails hack and slash? What?

It's irritating to see Sonic constantly whored out like this. Yes, I know a million other people have said it a million times before. That still doesn't make it any less abhorrent.

It's not on rails, hence why it uses the nunchuck.

New IPs don't usually sell.

You must not have owned a Dreamcast, because Sonic Adventure is held by most (including me) to be the best 3d Sonic ever made.

Maybe, but when you port it with no enhancements whatsoever and expect it to stand up to modern day stuff (lookin' at you SADX) it certainly does not stand up well to its peers at all. =\

How positive about this are we? Nunchuck use doesn't imply a lack of rails at all, merely a lack of pointless motion control. I haven't seen a single thing that implies that the game doesn't function IDENTICALLY to Secret Rings. All the videos, even in "wide-open" areas, show sonic running a very specific line. You don't have "camera pans while sonic skids to a halt and makes a 90 degree turn" moments if you're in control of his path.

[Edit] The specific reason for Nunchuck control, btw, is so the remote is freed up for motion-controlled sword-slashing. This game's gonna play just like Secret Rings, people. Not that that's a BAD thing, considering it was the only half-decent 3D Sonic ever made.

Was just about to post this. God damn that would be awesome.

Hoping of course, but we both know that Sega is no Capcom, though they have stepped up their game in the publishing department.

Hell yes.

...Shaara? :O

Hopefully no new friends!

Edit- Beaten by Huelen, as expected.

Hurrah for deliciously cheesy Crush 40 music! I loathed Unleashed, but Secret Rings wasn't half bad. It looks like he automatically turns on the right angles, so that's already a step up...the sword stuff looks pretty much exactly how I'd imagine Sonic would use a sword, too. What with the "being an even bigger spinning ball of doom" thing.

You're entitled to your opinion, no matter how wrong you are.:lol

Is it just me, or does the sorceress girl (Merlina) look straight out of Phantasy Star?

Hahaha the music is classic cheesy Sonic Rock, at least they get that right:lol

Really don`t want to be hype about this, Unleashed was terrible for me.

Edit, watching the trailer makes me believe that the girl could be a playable character, that would kill the game.

That trailer just made me cream myself, SEVERAL TIMES.

It looks like I was right about the swordplay. Fast and frantic. Doesn't seem to halt the gameplay.

Yes =D just run and slash! That was my biggest concern. If there's a wide enough selection of levels and the game doesn't force you to do silly missions to progress by playing the same stage over and over, I'm super interested.

Hope the level design is up to scratch!

That Sonic cycle pic was relevant about 2 or 3 games ago, but now it's just cliched, mildly stupid, and borderline "whiny".

You know - for all its very visible and apparent flaws I am in the camp that likes Unleashed.
You're in a camp with 5 other guys and a fuckton of 8-year-olds. Yay.

Keep dreaming.

You're wrong and you have no soul.

Also, this looks quite fun, more entertaining that the pseudo real world setting on Unleashed imo.

Well now it's a good thing that I don't have to like the same things or have the same perrogative as you do, now isn't it? :)

I didn't say Unleashed was the holy grail and I didn't say the game was complete and total ass. My opinion is that I simply fall somewhere in between where I'm mostly ambivalent towards it: Some things I like, some things I don't like, minor things I loathe, minor things I don't loathe. I don't feel like I should have to defend that to the masses if that's my general stance just as you shouldn't feel the need to defend and/or say how wrong my own opinion is to me.

Don't confuse "like" for "love" please. ;)

I didn't want you to defend your opinion because it's your opinion and that's good enough for me. I'm just saying that Unleashed is generally not liked, except by really young people. So at least from that angle, the cycle pic is still valid.

That's like totally your opinion man. Darkx10 etc have all provided mature well reasoned explanations for why they like it, your camp just says 'it's shit lol' and can't form a coherent argument in between being drama queens about the Werehog (which, while not great, is far from an unplayable mess).

Anyway Isn't this one semi open world?
