I can understand the gripe with walking backwards, it was pretty terrible in SotR. I guess my gripe comes from me never wanting to actually stop or go backward, so it wasnt a problem for me. I would actually start the level over if i hit a wall or had to move backward to get something. It did suck in some of the missions though....a lot of them were clearly designed without consideration to the control scheme or the speed which he moved at :lol

The mission on the pirate ship where you couldnt touch the rings made me want to kill myself twice at the same time :lol
I stopped playing the game for almost a year because of that mission. Thank God there were abilities that let you use up rings by doing things like doing jump cancels (which was frustrating in itself because of how finicky the controls were when you wanted to stop, back up, jump slowly, and cancel. Sonic would slide around and boost forward and... ugh.)

Can wait for this to be released so we can have another funny No Punctuation review.

Really? You can skip missions. Pretty sure I have quite a few unfinished ones myself, but I still beat the game.

Even if it's good it will get a bad review from Yahtzee. Don't forget that he hates everything that isn't Painkiller.:lol

It's pretty ironic for me to say this, but I think I may be sold on this one. I'm not a Sonic fan/hater, but the whole setup is starting to look very appealing to me. ^.^

As in all Sonic and the Black Knight threads, I have to say the game looks graphically impressive, but I still lament the change from Secret Rings' controls (and am well aware I'm one of the few that feels this way).

Well, I agree with you. I liked Secret Rings, but I don't understand the hype for Black Knight.

Not only did they change the controls, but they did it to add swordplay. To a Sonic game.

Hands on preview from Official Nintendo Magazine (UK)

He may have a sword but but the heavy steel doesn't affect Sonic's movement. This hog is as agile as ever as he skids along a rope or slides down the castle walls, Prince Of Persia-style. Yet despite this, one of our favourite moments so far is slowing the hedgehog down to a stop and taking a step backwards. That might sound odd but it's such a relief to have full control over Sonic's movement after being forced along a set path in Sonic And The Secret Rings.

How much whining and bitchery needs to be done before they bring back the chao garden? I'll do whatever it takes.

But looks interesting, I wonder if this will be decent again. Secret Rings was reportedly nice once you got a few crucial skills.
It really was.

That's my main problem with the game; you kinda had to unlock the good controls. Which is stupid. Once you did, though, the game really was good.

I did beat the game.

I just didn't even bother to finish the rest of the missions or try to improve my score on the others because that one No Rings mission made me so angry.

I didn't want you to defend your opinion because it's your opinion and that's good enough for me. I'm just saying that Unleashed is generally not liked, except by really young people. So at least from that angle, the cycle pic is still valid.

why dont you just shut up. :lol

While I find the gif quite funny I don't get how exchanging Sonic for another / new character could possibly make the game better...

Pfft.

The trailer...

It would be sooo ironic if the best Sonic game in the last years has him using a sword.

Sonic cycle begun... I am ready to be disappointed

God Sonic needs a total reboot. Just go back to getting from point A to point B, offering multiple but closely connected routes, using speed and momentum to zoom through obstacles like loops, walls and jumps, dodging spikes, pointy enemies and (occasional) pits, jumping on or spinning through robots to turn them back into little animals, fighting Robotnik at the end and freeing a further bunch of little animals in the process. Get rated on your speed and rings. Bingo. There's your game.

It doesn't need a hub world, RPG-style leveling or equipping, extra characters, a story, CGI, voice acting, a damsel in distress, or weapons. Just 60fps, color, speed and challenge, and a little bit of personality *implied* by the character animation. Not forced down our throats with a god-awful script and VA.

I dare you, Sonic Team. I DARE YOU. :lol

If thousands of gamers' threats won't motivate them in this direction, what makes you think a dare will?

......and then we dont make any money off it.

While it’s frustrating to watch Sega flail about trying to revive Sonic gameplay and a vast majority of the time failing hard, I can put that down to a lack of solid direction, talent, or whatever.

But what I don’t understand is why they continuously include such awful, awful songs. It’s not even bad videogame music, it’s bad music. Why can’t they make some Sonic-esque tunes and beats and just leave that as the theme? Why do they always feel the need to hire some shitty teen pop-rock crap?

The cheese factor is way too high and it’s not funny anymore (if it ever was). For me, it just lowers the overall quality of the game.

I love the song.

Also you should check out Sonic Unleashed, has the songs you may be looking for.

Mizuri's Music
Spagonia's Music
Holoska's Music

Final Boss Music*

*This actually, vaguely, in a twisted sort of way, reminds me of Mario Galaxy's music. A little.

That's just silly.

I'm sure Huelen is rushing to post a similar response, if it hasn't happened already, but ignore what's said about Apotos's music. That's aweful.

It doesnt look like a Sonic game at all. And the whole Sword Swinging with a Wiimote in a huge IP thing is scarily reminiscent of Soul Calibur Legends.

What? It looks exactly like SatSR but instead he is holding a sword. I don't get it. It is the same thing as a homing attack but now he just so happens to be slashing people up. The setting was just as crazy in the last Story Book game as well.

Sonic Unleashed's music was wonderful. I've never really liked Crush 40 or whatever the band's name is. (Well, I kinda like that Sonic Adventure 2 theme, but I think it was because they got the campyness factor just right :lol ) To me, perfect music in a Sonic game would be a mix of Unleashed and Rush music.

Oooooooooooooooooooohhh

Looks like ya came back for more

YEAH YEAH YEAH

probably my biggest worry with this game was that the whole premise is so resoundingly, laughably awful that the great prophecy of the sonic cycle would've crumbled at the first hurdle.

i actually paid full price for secret rings. never again.
