I just can't figure out the Metroid one... there is a Charge meter and an EN bar... So maybe Samus shoots at the blocks? Or mayber her gun fires blocks. Maybe the blocks spawn from the center of those squares and you have to rotate the mass and shoot it to make it a nice square? Whatever it is... Looks interesting! So it's several different puzzle games in one.

I also wonder what kind of unlockables it'll have. Maybe original NES versions of all the styles featured? So not only tetris but Super Mario Brothers, Zelda, Donkey Kong, Metroid, and Yoshi's cookie... Umm actually that will never happen!

By the way, I checked BBR and it wasn't worth it. Not very different from the GBA game, sadly. Oh, and the cover with the spastic dinosaurs doesn't help. Why can't they just use the arcade decorations??

That just looks too damn fun. Although as mentioned before, the backgrounds don't "mesh" that well in some instances, the shear versatility of modes available and Wi-Fi play makes this money in the bank already for Nintendo--and has me fucking sold for day one purchase with an imported DS Lite.

This game reminds me an awful lot of Sega Tetris for the Dreamcast and that's a really good thing. God how much I loved that title...

You might be right, and if so, that'll be a lot of fun. I'm not sure what you mean regarding items, though. Unless I missed something in this thread about using them (which is entirely possible) I've never heard, nor thought, about using them. I generally skip items - same thing for SSB:M

I don't think there're many games I'd consider myself great, or even good at - seeing as the world is a bi place, and the crazy speed runs people do and what not...but I'm pretty damned good at Tetris.

Also, I recently bought Puzzle league...and yes, it's a puzzle game that has more options than Tetris, but I'm not 'getting' it as much as people tout it. I find myself more allured by Dr. Mario.

Tetris DS is going to have items.

I like my Tetris WITHOUT items. WITHOUT holds. WITHOUT seeing more than 1 piece ahead. WITHOUT a ghost piece at the bottom.

I like my Smash Bros with the defaylt item set and frequencies. People who turn off items do so because they think they're "cheap." This is sissy talk for "I can't handle it! Items off and Final Destination so I can wave dash plz!"

Smash Bros was designed with items in mind, The gameplay was built around it. It works.
Tetris was designed without items. Putting items in works as well, but it's not the same feel as Tetris. Smash Bros. without items is not the same feel as Smash Bros. with items.

edit - most number of lines in original GB Tetris? (NOT DX! DX us EASIER because they sped up the controls!) I dunno. I always start at level 9. Over 150. But I usually keep track of score, not lines.
