GAF's Bob Woodward
Fairly informative stuff here:

http://scei.co.jp/corporate/release/pdf/110914a_e.pdf

No memory card included in the box. Japanese pricing is at the link.

Battery is a 2200mAh unit, cited as giving 3-5 hours of gameplay or 5 hours of video playback. Charging time is 2 hours, 40 minutes.

Someone else might want to copy and paste the game lists, on a tablet here :p Haven't had a proper look but think there's more new stuff in there.

edit - I'm finally on a more copy-and-paste friendly machine, so here's some of the more pertinent bits:

Sony Computer Entertainment Japan (SCEJ), a division of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. responsible for business operation in Japan, today announced at their press conference for Tokyo Game Show 2011, that PlayStation®Vita (PS Vita), will become available in Japan on December 17, 2011, with pre-orders starting on October 15, 2011.

Available at 24,980 yen (including tax) for Wi-Fi model and 29,980 yen (including tax) for 3G/Wi-Fi model, PS Vita at launch will be accompanied with 26 exciting software titles along with a broad selection of peripherals and accessories

Delivering such unparalleled portable gaming experience at launch is 26 exciting software titles from both SCE and our publishing and developing partners. In addition to these launch titles, more than 74 games are currently in development and are expected to be released for the PS Vita system. For the 3G network connectivity, PS Vita 3G/Wi-Fi model in Japan will support data
communication prepaid plans provided by NTT DOCOMO, INC.

mobile communications companies well known for its network quality and coverage.

Two plans announced today for PS Vita are “Prepaid data plan 20h” at 980 yen (including
tax) and “Prepaid data plan 100h” at 4,980 yen (including tax).

share their entertainment experience with their friends where ever they are. Taking
advantage of the network connectivity, applications pre-installed in PS Vita like “near”
which enables users to share their game information with other users anywhere, anytime,
as well as the upcoming software titles will deliver unmatched next generation portable
entertainment to PS Vita users.

At launch, SCEJ will run a promotional campaign for a limited offer and will bundle
with PS Vita 3G/Wi-Fi model a DOCOMO UIM card that will include the initial contract
handling fee 2,100 yen (including tax) along with “Prepaid data plan 100h” or “Prepaid

ITT: People who expected 8+ hours battery life get mad.
And yet they all buy the console to use at their homes

Will the outcry be as heavy as the 3DS battery situation, or less because we are coming off the PSP and kinda sorta expected this?
Regardless there will be outcries even if they stated something like this in the past.

So, the "real price" of the VITA is going to be around $30-50 + actual cost. That is if you ever want to download games.

I'm going to guess that battery life is very optimistic.

I'm guessing playing a game of Uncharted, the battery will drain in around 2 hours and 30 minutes.

Nonoriri

If your name is Nonoriri you have to go buy Nanami's tampons.
Memory card 4GB ¥2,200
Memory card 8GB ¥3,200
Memory card 16GB ¥5,500
Memory card 32GB ¥9,500

Given how snazzy the thing is, I think most people with common sense were aiming for the psp battery life. Given that most trips dont take more than an hour or two, this is acceptable for commuting

Haha. Love some of the funky translations:

Ys -Foliage Ocean in CELCETA-

Anyway, RPG series from Level 5? Wonder what that could be.

-edit-
And those memory cards are priced through the freaking roof.

it'll be less because they won't feel the short life was caused by a "useless feature" they don't want.

also what the heck do they mean by "portable charger" they have listed under accessories?

The ghost of Dreamcast past
As stated many times before, battery life is similar to PSP.

Would be more if it wasn't for those greedy A9s.

No seriously, what's going to happen 6 years from now when the next wave of handhelds come out?

Battery tech HAS to breakthrough at some point, right?
