A real videogame design genius is not something that rises from talent, passion, and lifelong hard work.

Hundreds of pages of Jim Ryan and Playstation Studios Japan Neogaf reality check threads make it abundantly clear: True gaming creativity is something you ingest - as an ingredient of real Japanese milk straight out of your native Japanese mother's Japanese tit.

The idea that the Playstation brand is doing better than ever under western governance is an illusion. Need evidence? There hasn't been a Gravity Rush game since 2017 despite selling a whopping 200k units.
Need more evidence? Ask Bryank75 Bryank75

There is no question what the Playstation really needs to prosper is some good old-fashioned corporate ethnic cleansing. To be more specific:

1. Sony needs to fire Jim Ryan and Hermen Hulst. Immediately hire a Japan-born and raised CEO and Japanese head of Playstation Studios.

2. Move Playstation HQ back to Tokyo.

3. Promote all Playstation Studios Japanese studio staff to game directors and department leads. Establish Japanese as the official language used at all meetings for full transfer of decision-making authority.

4. Re-brand all Playstation Studios to Playstation JAPAN Studios. For example - Sucker kizami-zuki JAPAN Studio - USA.

5. Fire Cuckmann. Appoint Japanese studio head of Naughty Neko JAPAN.

6. ...

7. ありがとうございます. Profit.

Two questions remain:

- Is hiring Kiichiro Urata the beginning of the revolution we've all been waiting for?

- Is this joke funny?

Probably both to some, while to others neither.

He also made the brand, literally the father of PlayStation. Dude was nuts but he was fucking brilliant and too far ahead for his time.
I don't think the PlayStation would've ever gone x86 with him around. He needed to step aside.

I imagine if PS5 was designed by Kutaragi San it would contain nothing less than a long-distance qubit couple single phosphor ion unit quantum CPU capable of rendering 10^86574673628959 polygons backwards in time.
Ken Kutaragi: “the user interface is the same as The Matrix, it can render Toy Story 4 in real time and upscale your old DVDs to 8K with better than native 8K quality!!! It can even offload work to the holo chip in your smartphone to increase rendering performance”

Actual games: look like they’re running on a mid-range gaming PC from a couple years ago.

I assume this help to make more likely to get more exclusives from Capcom. According to the leak SF6 was supposed to be a crossgen multiplatform game, and now for some stupid reason the SF brand is handled from USA since while ago, so who knows if this may change now.

1. Sony needs to fire Jim Ryan and Hermen Hulst. Immediately hire a Japan-born and raised CEO and Japanese head of Playstation Studios.
Nah, in the busines side Jimbo is doing a great job making record revenues, consoles sold and games for these consoles sold. And Hermen is also doing a great job since their 1st party games sell better than ever, earn more GOTYs than ever and they have a ton of exclusive games on development, being like half of them new IPs and including both big and small.

2. Move Playstation HQ back to Tokyo.
It always has been in Tokyo. They created later a 2nd one for USA with a 2nd company, but the original SIE/SCE still has their HQ in Japan.

Ok, now reading this I got it was a joke xDD

This is a confirmation of Japan Studio v.2?
Japan Studio got restructured and rebranded as Team Asobi, where they merged all their internal development teams into the one of that name. Their 2nd party publishing, the XDEV Japanese team also still exist but now reports to XDEV instead of to Japan Studio.

The guy hired will be in charge of the relationship between PlayStation and Asian (not only Japanese) game publishers and dev companies. It only means Sony is making/will make related changes and improvements. So that we can expect more or better Asian (not only Japanese) 2nd party and 3rd party exclusives, plus who knows if some related acquisition. Sony wants to grow in the Asian PlayStation and mobile markets, and wants to give PS5 more exclusives than any previous PS console had, so a movement like was is expected.

I don't think they've released a single first-party game that begun development while he was in charge of PlayStation Studios.

I'll laugh my ass off when it turns out the guy is a Rawhide Kobayashi.
With Capcom's western friendly output? sounds too real tbh.

Yes, they released Astrobot and soon Death Stranding Director's Cut, plus they made the deal with Kadokawa. GT7 was started before them. And it's difficult to release more games because they joined their current position 2 years ago.

They are growing their XDEV Japanese 2nd party team after moving it from reporting to Japan Studio to reporting to XDEV. They merged all their internal development Japan Studio teams into one of them, Team Asobi, and now after the restructuring they are growing it.

They are also rumored to have new (until now secret) Japanese development studio, and to be in talks to acquire ARC System Works after acquiring EVO and implement many online tornament OS features pretty much oriented for (or at least first implemented with) fighting games.

Jimbo and Hermen mentioned they are strengthening ties with external Japanese teams, that (talking in general, not only for JP games) in addition to big blockbuster games they will also want to keep their focus on smaller and more creative games and that want more stuff from Japan and the rest of Asia, and that (talking in general, not only about JP games) they plan to have more exclusive games for PS5 than for any previous PS console. Things that can be tied to this hiring.

Ok, so how can you say he's doing a great job using sales as a metric? Astrobot was a free pack-in, and Death Stranding...well it's Death Stranding.

So...are we actually talking about the new SVP or trying to force laughter from this extensively delivered joke?

I don't know what this SVP's purpose is? What is he overseeing? Says Development and Relations? Does not compute.

Not only because of record sales and revenue. Because their overal strategy make sense and even if a couple of years is a too short period to evaluate their Japanese developed specific games strategy, they already did/are doing things that affect Japanee development that I think were needed since many years ago:

-To reorganize Japan studio changing their leadership and focusing more in the Astros and less Knacks
-To let their 1st party internal development studios to focus on their own games since now won't need to worry about ports/remasters/remakes/2nd party publishing
-To reorganize their 'separate' 2nd party publishing worldwide to have it on a dedicate in a specific team so they don't need to bother or depend on internal development teams and avoiding redundancies between their different offices (in stuff like localization or QA)
-To invest more than ever in 2nd party and 3rd party deals in addition to make an extra effort to improve their relationship with 2nd/3rd party Japanese publishers and devs (here we include Death Stranding Director's Cut, the Kadokawa deal or the hiring mentioned in the OP)
-To consider acquisitions (ARC System Works is rumored) or create new studios (they are rumored to have a new unannounced one in Japan) to increase more their output and not only buying more gamedev studios, but also stuff that frees them doing boring stuff like ports (Nixxes) or remakes (Bluepoint if ends confirming)
-To highly grow their 1st party teams worldwide with aggresive hiring (which includes Polyphony and after getting restructured Team Asobi and their Japanese XDEV team)
-To take additional measures to reduce crunch and take care of their dev's health in PS Studios (remember, according to ancient Japanese culture experts in Japan they work 25 hours per day and 8 days per week)

SVP = Senior Vice President, in this case of relationships with Asian game publishers and devs. In this case he's an executive that may provide personal contacts, friendship and knowledge to have some meetings/dinners/drinks with Capcom and related companies, and then I assume to overview the paperwork that other peoplle who works under him would to do close exclusives, maybe handling the stuff related to sending them devkits and related support, maybe QC certification process for their game, sign marketing deals for 3rd party games, digital stores featurings and theme sales, not sure if acquisitons too, collecting feedback and suggestions from them for future hardare/OS/digital store or subscription services improvements etc.
