Remind me to never make an xbox fucking fud list again.

It goes on forever.
Lol. Might be worth combining and alphabetizing some bulletpoints, just to keep it manageable.

Instead of
- No RT
- No VRS
- No machine learning.

Make it:

- PS5 has no... Machine Learning, RT, VRS

Also, so many forums (especially InvisionFree and IPBoards) have fucked-up spacing/formatting issues. I find that copying into Notepad on a desktop OS, and then cutting and pasting from there helps a hell of a lot.

Could you possibly be refering to meee...
Yes a GPU with higher TF's will outperform the ones with less, this is only true for same architecture. If it's between NVIDIA an AMD with same TF's then not so clear, or new revisions of architecture like from GCN to RDNA. So theoritical peak TerraFLOPS is not the complete story, the tech behind how efficiently the GPU's CU's are kept occupied to get as close as it can to it's stated maximum TerraFLOPS has to be taken into account

Concerning the next gen consoles you must have heard something like GCN TerraFLOPS aren't equivalent to RDNA TerraFLOPS, or RDNA TerraFLOP can do a lot more than a GCN TerraFLOP, confusing or wtf huh? A TerraFLOP IS a TerraFLOP irrelevant of the hardware! For instance Microsoft have discontinued their GCN 6TF X1X to make way for the RDNA2 4TF XSS, this may sound like a downgrade but it is not. What's not been made clear is simply RDNA2 architecture is much more efficient than GCN (plus more advanced shaders and such), this means XSX can get closer to it's peak 4TF than X1X ever will... RDNA2 has better CU occupancy

Using your 'hypothetical' example that XSX has on average 40% efficiency of its peak 12.1TF and PS5 averages 60% (due to advances in hardware) of its peak 10.2TF, that would give 4.8TF for XSX and 6.1TF for PS5 on average (or real sustained TerraFLOPS). Again emphasizing this ratio is only hypothetical, still it gives a good idea of what we are seeing rendered on screen is only a fraction of the stated TerraFLOPS!
I read somewhere that the less CUs that you have the easier it is to keep them occupied.

Is this true?

I don't buy the $600 price tag for reasons.

Off to play FallGuys with some friends then taking off for a week or so, stay safe everyone but will for sure be back in about....

Enjoy the time away. Hopefully you can fully unplug. I know I've fully unplugged a few times for a week or so and damn....my mental acuity, not to mention mental health is greatly improved! Hope you and your family stay safe and healthy, sir!

Not sure if this has been posted already. What a slap lol.
This is an indie dev with little experience. Imagine Sony first parties... I have imagination like Han Solo but I can't.
Probably because Microsoft are mainly in the enterprise sector and Sony are more in the consumer sector. Microsoft doesn't have to care about the average consumer because their main product isn't for the general consumer it's software and Data Centres. So even if they don't listen to the general consumer of Xbox... They don't give a crap.

Whereas Sony's is making hardware for the consumer. So they need to listen to the consumer or risk losing the huge gains in revenue they've had during the PS4 life cycle.
Not really. Sony has a pro division which makes TV cameras, for example. My friend is a technician at a major TV station here and he says they're pretty much standard for quality in production. $200k a piece devices with very high profit margin for the producer.

No problems at all. My own OCD was kicking-in as well.

I don't think these have been re-listed anywhere, but I've also heard from my die-hard xbox fan friend:

SONY have opted for a seperate kernel, with a sandbox emulator code for ps4. This gives two massive problems. 1. everygame needs to be rewritten for the new kernel. 2. all peripherals have their own seperate security check. Meaning that ps4 controllers can only function in that sandbox and dont have access to the ps5 kernel. The same as nintendo did with a sandboxed gamecube emu on the wii.

Prime example.... remember custom fw on psp and ps3? All looked bloody similair to the stock fw. With some minor tweaks here and there. There was a reason. If they changed too much, it wouldnt work. As it was locked to the kernel. Imagine like an onion, The kernel is the centre which can never be changed. the outer layer is the stuff you can change like selecting buttons. each layer inbetween become less user, and more rigid as you go down. the gui runs though it all like veins. since a game needs to access the central stuff, it needs to be able to work through that maze flawlessly. change 1 thing to much... it all comes crashing down. So, PS5 having this new OS menu that pulls down live stats and launches into multiplayer lobbies instead of launching the game and then the multiplayer mode, its at the expense of BC so it had better be amazing.

- PS5 has no "mesh shaders" (is this the same as the "no VRS" bullet point?)

- PS5 has changed kernel, thus cannot do native BC, each game has to be tested individually. The current ps now isnt compatilble with ps5 kernel. They would need to write a whole new ps now code for the new kernel; which means more cost to you to cover it. The streaming will work, downloading games running on an emu wont (so no downloading of PS3 titles from PSNow, like GP does).

- DualSense doesn't use DirectInput, thus dualsense will be limited just to ps5 and if a whole new input, means they cant use standard manufacturing for the control board, adding massively to the costs. £80-100 controller costs.
Geez. Sounds like someone who went to system architecture classes but didn't understand anything from them.

I think they still do camera lenses and are some of the best in the biz,so you're probably right. And they still do some internals for cameras and TVs...
But old Sony shut down or sold off so many former divisions... I can't remember what they do or don't have anymore.

Fanboys hate the fact that despite how Series X has a slightly more powerful GPU, it's just not getting the credit it deserves.

How's this. Series X is a very powerful machine and Game Pass will be a great bargain for some gamers. Full stop.

Unfortunately that statement is not enough. They can't understand that power isn't everything, and just because the system you choose has the best overall pixel pushing grunt, doesn't mean it's the best. Notice how fanboys never bring up specs when it comes to Nintendo. They're fully aware how Nintendo brings down the first-party hammer, but somehow that doesn't apply to Sony? Also, they get irked by the notion of the PS5 having some architectural advantages (SSD, I/O, geometry engine, tempest engine, maybe others?).

Everyone is talking about the PS5 cause Sony sure as shit isn't. Creates a lot of buzz. Hell, even Phil Spencer and other Xbox employees have talked about the PS5. Think about it. You've got your competition talking about you. All this talk is working in Sony's favor. Team Xbox needs to zip it and start showing the Series X goods already. It's driving Xbox fanboys mad.
Very well said. Ever notice how Sony never discusses their competition? They only talk about themselves and I find that way of marketing far more appealing. Bit classy too. Maybe I have missed something, but do Sony ever discuss Xbox events or news etc? Seems like they never do. Phil though, can’t stop talking about everyone else. Seems like Sony, Nintendo, and Google live rent free up in his head, getting free press.

Sony peeps haven't been doing anywhere near as many interviews really either.

Phil won't STFU lol

At most Sony just vaguely, but sort of obviously, references the differences between the competition and them. Although when anyone at MS does the same a few people on this forum shit their pants over it lol

Turns out you can save face when you simply mind your own business while your competition tries to either tear you down, or simply downplay you entirely. Phil needs to understand that it's simply not working. Whenever he's doing an interview and someone mentions PS5, he needs to zip it. It doesn't matter how benign a statement it may be (usually it's negative). He needs to be smart enough to quickly sidestep and bring it back to Xbox in a positive light. Despite all the marketing hype, it's all tell and no show. Sony pulled the rug out from under them by just focusing on what Sony does best, and I honestly don't think Sony acknowledges Xbox at all.

  • PS5 lacks hardware-accelerated ray tracing

PS5 games just look like upscaled PS4 games

Yes, I will.

For all intensive purposes, HZD on PC looks very much like HFW with the exception of the different scenery (underwater, desert) and new machines. I'm more convinced after playing the PC version that the PS5 version will have similar graphics features not found on PS4 running at native 4k/30FPS.

Horizon 2 - notice the trees, grass, godrays, and her character.

Horizon 1 on PC @ true 4k+anisotropic 16x + high geometry. Uses very similar assets (grass, trees, hair model, skin, character clothes)

Character look very similar in shading

Next month!!! If Microsoft news is next month then PS5 next event is definitely not this month.
I doubt anything was happening next week and Gamescom being after.. I stick with my theory that they would want their own dedicated event for anything big. That to me means August is done.

If my theory is wrong though... Gamescom should be even more interesting.

The last time I remember Sony poking at the competition was with the used game video. I’m sure there must be some other time, but again, Xbox deserved that. Most of the time Sony don’t really care.

and it was to show how simple it was to borrow a game on the PS4, unlike the xbox ... that an MS invented "family sharing" that even she didn't know how it worked to justify blocking the game loan.

Still, it was in the first place to demonstrate how simple and efficient the PS4 was when playing a game borrowed by a friend compared to the xbox, which not even MS knew how to make LOL

It's what happens when you 'walk the walk' instead of just 'talk the talk'
There's no need to talk trash when behind the scenes, you're working hard to create GOTY contenders.
And when you're at the VGA's, winning award after award, who cares about some hecklers acting all TMZ?

So I was watching a video today from GamingBolt about how PS5 "can" leverage a feature such as VRS (variable rate shading) for performance saving and optimisation, this was mentioned in tandem with the recent rumours about RE8 having performance issues on the PS5.

Interestingly enough, we already know the PS5 is aiming to be an extremely "efficient" system, with the heavy customisations made to the APU as well as the SSD. I know certain fanboys were saying PS5 wouldn't have VRS for whatever reason, but considering what I mentioned earlier it would have been silly for Mark Cerny to exclude a performance saving feature like VRS for the PS5. RedGamingTech (yes I know it's like the 10th time I've brought up myse.... I mean Paul in the past few days) did say he was told by multiple sources that VRS was featured on the PS5.

However, people seem to act as if VRS is the ultimate performance saving feature a GPU can have when that's clearly not the case. This was reflected in Matt Hagertt's comments about how "VRS doesn't hold a handle on the Geometry Engine's capabilities". This is important, because RGT mentioned that developers were "a little annoyed" that the PS4 and Pro didn't allow them to control the entire graphics pipeline, this was an important feature because it would have allowed for significant gains in performance saving as well as less load on the GPU and CPU. According to RGT he was told by a source that this was was one of the reasons why PS4 and Pro tended to run very hot when games like God of War were being played, the lack of performance optimisations and savings meant that the CPU/GPU were being stressed more. RGT also mentioned that had the PS4 and Pro had a performance optimisation feature there would not have been as many overheating and loud fan issues with the PS4 and Pro. (Btw I've mentioned some of this stuff before but it's great to get a refresh on this info!)

He further went on to state that developers constantly asked Mark Cerny for a feature would give them full control of the graphics pipeline which would allow for many performance saving techniques, this feature has now come in the form of the "Geometry Engine" on the PS5. RGT also mentioned that the PS5's GE used in tandem with VRS has sort of a synergetic effect and allows the VRS to perform much better and more accurate.

I find this interesting because everyone seems to think next-gen will be a generational leap in things like power, performance, data loading and streaming, but thanks to features like the Geometry Engine and VRS, there will also be a significant leap in performance savings and optimisations as well as high levels of efficiency. Sorry if I've made any blunders in this information, I'm not as technically minded as other brilliant people on this thread. :)

You think Sony doesn't care, but they understand timing they knew when to say they were not going to enforce 24-hour connection restrictions, they had all that decided months ago, but they knew they needed to wait to E3 to do it big...

Sony is the leader, they know it, they will not make them look like they are in the same breath because they aren't right now... But I expect that they are going to release more thing like the SpiderMan "puddles", *we hear you with puddle gate, be ready to use other excuses*

You know, this whole cycle has been weird. Weird silence so that we don't even know the details about both consoles that we have for hardware in the past. I can't blame all this on Covid-19. At this point I think we might get some kind of blitz out of nowhere. Maybe even something like 'here's the price, you can pre-order starting today and the consoles are available on October 30th!' Might be crazy like that. At this point, I feel like anything is possible. These companies have both long had enough warning with Covid-19 restrictions to revamp their strategies and have new ones all planned out. So we'll have to see what happens (obviously) but I just feel at this point we might get a few or more than a few curves and twists thrown into the mix.

Yeah but even then that video was classy shit talking. They simply showed how to share games on PS4. They didn’t mention the competition at all. All they had to do was say “look our system is normal” and they scored some marketing points. It was just so easy to capitalize on the obvious mistake Xbox had made back then.

Andrew House said back in 2013 when he saw Xbox announced no used games, he then went on to read articles before E3 2013 saying “it’s only a matter of time before Sony does this too” and he got worried.

Andrew House was a marketing guy, and so he said they went out of their way at E3 to stress that PS4 used games would be same as they always have been. He said they had never planned to get rid of them. And he wanted to crush any speculation that they would do that stuff, so it want even really talking shit, it was just their way to calm any fear or concern about the future of PS4 and used games.

Exactly. It was a good ad and a brilliant marketing capitalization on what MS had done but it didn't sling mud and as you said, didn't even mention the competition directly.

What I don't understand is how so many people act like Sony ISN'T the one who is the (by far) market leader. Maybe it's because Microsoft is so huge in other markets that overall Sony is seen as the underdog, but I have to laugh when I see SO MANY different theories on how Sony messed up here or made the wrong choices there. Like I've said before I don't even think what we've seen from Microsoft so far has been the result of MISTAKES. I think they shifted in strategy and then shifted back too late to avoid being well behind and THAT is a mistake in a way but not the same thing as making a blunder regarding their product and picking too weak of a GPU or something like that. Should be very interesting between now and November!

Is the PS4 capable of ray tracing?
Well, and by that logic train PC games are just (often) upscaled console games. Just upgraded in frame rate and resolution for the relatively few PC rigs that can handle that.

And Pixar movies are just upscaled versions of PC CGI.

I don't think that's a really valid line of argument.

No but Spiderman does use ray tracing.

So you really can't call it an upscaled PS4 game if it's using features that the PS4 isn't capable of.
I never talked about Spiderman at all.

I talked about HFW. That was my claim. This guy that tried to put my claim as FUD is wrong. He even posts my screenshots that prove my case. It already compares evenly from cinematic to cinematic.

I REALLY want some PS5 new information this month now. You know their are so many people who see all this nonsense going around but are stuck with NDA's. As soon as Sony do this god damn breakdowm we will know everything we need to know. It doesn't help that I'm meant to be in the Caribbean right now but it's canceled and now I'm stuck browsing forums and twitter hoping for a new bit of info 😅😡.

Well, except for that what's been shown of HFW looks far better than the PC version of HZD. There is that.

Relax, man. In a few years you'll be able to buy a video card that will put the PS5 to shame. I really don't get the deal with this. PC people seem so threatened by these next gen boxes right now. Just enjoy the games as well as the fact that consoles are driving some innovations that will make your PC parts even better.

P.S. I'll almost guarantee that if Insomniac is using RT with Spider Man, then Guerrilla will definitely have it in HFW which will be released even later in the console cycle. We'll see but it's a pretty good bet given that just about every game shown running on PS5 so far has had it. We of course won't see full path ray tracing in this generation but I don't think you'll see that on PC within the next 3-5 years either.

That ArmGunar thread on other place is very well put, but it's missing one critical feature in the forecast i.e. underselling the impact of cost/sales of PS4. Sony themselves have confirmed, that it'd be main driver of profits over the next year, and I can see it get a permanent price-cut to $199 with aggressive holiday bundles at even lower price this holiday. If you account for those losses, then it becomes very difficult to guesstimate PS5s' price.

I'll say one thing though, we've been hearing about Microsofts 'war chest' for years now, but recently, that thought has been repeated from many reputed journalists for me to simply wave it away. There could be a scenario where they bite the bullet, and price-match PS5 or even come under. But, the existence of two different SKUs so different in power/specs makes me double guess this notion. Why spend all that money in R&D, if cost isn't an issue on higher end SKU or you have a blank check to eat losses? It doesn't quite add up.

I'm gonna predict that Xbox will start its next-gen offerings from $349 for Series S, and $549 for Series X. With PlayStation 5 starting at $449 for DE, and $499 for Disc. I would've revised the prediction on PS5 by +$50, if we didn't hear about Sony raising the number of units in production to 10 million. That's a lot for any console, never mind a console releasing amidst an on-going pandemic and impending recession. I hope every SKU is cheaper by $50-100 but I'm not very confident.

I said this in a post yesterday about the difference between MBG vs Timdog.
You're giving these people a lot of credit. They are wilfully ignorant on this stuff, they deliberately choose and pick what to write and what to discard. It's a choice. MBG didn't "see the light", he simply followed the money. This is not the first console launch to be soiled by these type of folks, I remember ProElite (who is still around this gen), Aegis, Karak and many others claim how Durango was more powerful than Orbis, and how they'd have more advantage due to DirectX!

Social-media has grown tenfold during that time-frame, and along with it, the bad faith actors who peddle the FUD. It's best ignored.

They're not threatened, they're overly entitled and jealous of their community not getting sole attention.
