Sonic doesn't really fit into a realistic* looking world

Truth.

They should go back to the LSD-inspired locales of Sonic CD

Weren't these pics online already?

Surely GAF isn't censoring them at the request of a company because the company didn't like the way the discussion was going here. Because that would be laughable.

The pics were online elsewhere, and I assume that Sega are asking that site to remove them as well, because they were not intended for general online release. The 'censorship' has nothing to do with the way the discussion's going - you'll note that the discussion remains intact and it's just the images that have been removed.

Dear SEGA,

Ryu Ga Gotoku is a piece of dogshit. Why do you insist on having a Metrosexual make your games?

Go fuck yourselves.

Make some sense for once, dimwits.

Yeah, the anniversary was the perfect opportunity to be able to reinvent the game and go a bit retro at the same time.

So it's a bit sad to see them go the safe route, and go more realistic while touting physics of all things. Sonic will probably meet Shadow, Matrix kick the gun out of his hand in slow-motion and shoot in him the head at some point as well.

Those screens aren't very good...

Did Sega specify which version of the game they came from?

Well I think there are only next-gen versions, if that's what you're getting at. And they're likely not going to look much different from each other.

Although this is the type of game one might think could be 1080p on PS3.

They looked like they were off the same tech demo build shown off at... TGS, I believe. Could've sworn I saw the picture with the multiple ring trails before (for light dashing). Didn't look any more advanced than that, and I'm not sure I saw any new materials or elements.

They weren't all that bad, to be honest, but the tech demo at TGS wasn't showing off what they were talking about idealistically, so to see more of it being promoted is a little disconcerting. Especially Light Dash Ring Trails, that's something that shouldn't be a prominent part of the next Sonic game. They're a lame path movement tool that was excusable back during the DC era, but not for a reenvisioning of Sonic.

We've had a request from Sega to remove these pictures. Please don't repost them, and bear in mind that asking for PMs in such threads (even by amusingly highlighting the letters 'P' and 'M' in an otherwise innocuous sentence) is punishable by death.
Where was this avid Sega GAF monitoring during the run-up to the release of Shadow the Hedgehog??!? Apparently they were unable to grasp the meaning behind the horrified feedback to "legitimate" gameplay images like this:

Seriously Sega, you really could have been overly protective of ALL media about this game, and why not the game itself for that matter. It needed to be hidden away, for all eternity.

Good Lord.

I'd never seen that shot before.

I also enjoyed this one.

I can only hope that Sega is putting some effort into a Sonic Grand Theft Auto type of game. Why neglect those stunning car and gun models when you can put them to real use in a sure fire blockbuster SGTA hit?!?

Anyone for pimping Tails out? Double tails = $$$

:lol SEGA am cry.

While the game doesn't look particularly good, perhaps even one of the poorer looking next gen games based on those screens, and I agree that Sonic in bland, toned down environments is a shame...I just don't give a crap if they can give me a good 3D Sonic.

I have no faith that they will, but if actual Sonic Team are working on it this time (are they?) instead of Sonic Team USA, maybe there's some hope.

I personally have faith. It looks to me like the enviornments are all going to be more organic, given the TGS trailer and some of the newer stuff I've seen. And IMO, that's loads better than all the modern, uninteresting city-scapes we've been looking at since Sonic Adventure 2. I'm willing to be that the level design gets more creative in later levels, with the obligatory space levels. As for the gameplay, I can assume with confidence that it will at least be fun.

But if Sega were to surprise us with some badass new features.... I don't think anyone would complain.

And no, we're not talking about firearms.

I'd like to chime in with criticisms of some of the animations shown in the latest Gamepro from screens.

The grinding one in particular is pretty shitty, with the foot placement in no way being capable of 'grinding' that rail. At least SA2 had specific shoe redesigns to show how it was possible!

But saying all that, I dont want any of this realistic animation bollocks. Bring back teh Sonic CD super-peel-out running, with his legs becoming red figure of eights and all manner of crazy speed.

Oh and hire a new vibrant design artist for environments and enemies, as the current stuff is so bland its a disgrace.
