Next issue PC ZONE magazine reveals Deus Ex 3

And the AI? Yeah, extremely flawed as well. Sure needs improvement like so many other things. But the AI isn't even mentioned once in the preview!! How can you make claims that it doesn't seem 'updated'?
You missread what I meant, the AI comment was just an aside, what I meant was that I don't think the preview details sound like an improvement over the original gameplay elements.

One of the coolest things about Deus Ex was the intricacy/interactivity of the environments. If Eidos can achieve that, we'll have us a cool game. Although, come to think of it, we won't be able to just walk into a 7-11 and hoard everything off the shelves for health anymore :(

this is great news for me. yeah, im not too happy about the auto-heal and cover system, but ive wanted this for a long time. they already blew it with invisible war, so the way i see it, this game has to be better than that. plus, that screenshot! ive been waiting for a game that looks like that for forever and the fact that i get it in deus ex 3 just makes me giddy.

Main character looks like someone took BJ Blazkowicz's head, stuck it on the Crysis dude's armor, and then gave him a ridiculous Texas Pete belt buckle.

That's not the main character. That's one of the bosses. I think the guy with the sunglasses and cigarette is the main character.

MORE FROM THE ARTICLE:

- Hacking is like an RTS minigame
That does sound awful. Is hacking still a skill you have to put EXP into? I fucking hate having to do minigames to unlock shit. Takes you out of the action. And that's something I thought Eidos wanted to avoid with the automatic healing and everything

Sounds awesome. I'm a little worried about the cover system, though. I've always hated those in FPS. Other than that, it sounds like Eidos is on the right track here. I'm hoping they do the franchise justice with this iteration.

Need screens and vids ASAP!

Also, while the whole Renaissance/Cyberpunk idea is cool, how the fuck are they going to inject that into Deus Ex canon?

This is a prequel to DEUS EX eidos, not a sequel to invisible war

I'm hoping they do the franchise justice with this iteration.
Tall order. As of right now, I remain unconvinced. DX3 is due for a '09 release right? Let's hope stuff changes.

BULLSHIT. The retail landscape is littered with the corpses of FPSes with watered down mechanics and simple gameplay. If developers or publishers think people want dumbed-down crap, they're condescending idiots.

Hey, guess what? Deus Ex 2 tried going for newcomers by using the dumbing-down approach, and it was a well-deserved failure. Bioshock was a mass-market FPS that had a decent amount of complexity, and it was a well-deserved success.

It's worth noting that Bioshock had no stats, only upgradeable weapons and powers.

Their idea of "renaissance" style architecture and fashion already fits into the Deus Ex universe, because it looks exactly like Blade Runner, which is what the original Deus Ex looked like.

Look at the dress concept art. Look at the "fancy" office setting. Now look at this:

But to be fair, if you're going to rip off a visual style, you can't do much better than Blade Runner.

Yes, and while Bioshock is a pretty fun game, it's nowhere near an RPG. There are no meaningful character choices in Bioshock. There are not multiple ways through an encounter, unless you count different ways of killing monsters "multiple" ways. My greatest disappointment with Bioshock is that it had so few RPG qualities. You couldn't build a stealth character, or a character that favored stealth, or anything like that. Every avenue was open to you at all times.

question, is Alexander Brandon composing? I remember he played Tracer Tong in IW or something

So how do you explain Bioshock, that despite being 'watered down', was still awesome fun to play?

It was? I got bored with bioshock's gameplay halfway in

Did I say games with "waterd down" -gameplay can't be fun ? No I didn't.

Still it's fucking annoying when they fuck up good old franchises by taking away parts that made orginal games such a wonderful experience.

I approve of the visual style, especially the style of dress.

Also, note that the cover was not referenced with shooting, but with stealth, as a replacement of shadows. This actually sounds like a good idea to me.

I'm somewhat optimistic about this now.

I fully agree with you. But DX3 could still be okay, especially seeing as the Augmentations sound more interesting than the Plasmids of Bioshock (many of which were just Fire Gun, Lightning Gun, Frost Gun, etc). And you may not be able to max out everything as you could in Bioshock.

One big hope I have is that we'll be able to manually input door codes/passwords but I'm not very hopeful as I presume this is going to consoles.

Dunno, looks a bit too futuristic for a prequel, I mean Deus Ex was a "In a near future" kind of dystopia. Still the artwork does look good I guess that's what matters.

Looks like Deus Ex. Opulent office settings, decadent night clubs, pristine laboratories. I'm sure the street scenes with be sufficiently grungy. Remember, this isn't a unique art style in games. It's kind of hard to screw up, actually, being so common.

http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/news/41963/Deus-Ex-3-is-an-RPG-According-to-Eidos

Deus Ex 3 is indeed an RPG. It's a hybrid action/RPG just like the first game. There is a skill system where you upgrade your character (Adam) based off experience points you earn and you can do the same thing with weapons. It's a game with a very detailed plot with numerous characters you interact with. The gameplay takes the form of a consequence-driven multi-path, multi-solution approach in a non-linear space.

For stealth, that is another major pillar of gameplay and we do have it. The difference is that it's now cover-based rather than "shadow/light-based" as in the past games.

lmao get out this thread, random person with xbox avatar and terrible taste

Both System Shock games were excellent, might not be deus ex excellent but they sure are almost at the same level, only the linearity stop them to reach deus ex levels....

If they remove the RPG elements and free roam gameplay, I'm not even showing up for this party. Seriously, it sounds like Bioshock, which isn't a bad thing, but my favorite part of DX is stealthing in, killing silently, then convincing people I wasn't even there.

They've got their work cut out for them. The thing about the original Deus Ex was that taken in isolation, every aspect of it was actually pretty bad: stealth was completely broken, gunplay was fairly boring, the stats augmentations had too many useless and dead-end upgrade paths, the art was ugly, the story was ridiculous. And yet somehow it was more than the sum of its parts. Every deficit in one area was somehow by balanced out by a deficit somewhere else.

That kind of thing is impossible to do twice, so the makers of this game are seemingly trying to make up for it by nailing the fundamentals, which is the best thing they could have done.

So far this sounds like a generic console shooter with some tacked-on ability upgrades. Oh well, I guess if it can approach NOLF2's level of quality (lol yeah right) I'll be satisfied since NOLF2 is the best corridor shooter that just so happens to use stealth and a deus ex-styled upgrade system I've played.

Art is good, story sounds good...

Deus Ex is still the best game ever made, but I don't see how they can meet or better it without a legend or two involved.

If Spector was on the dev team it'd be my most anticipated game of. my. life. EVAR.

I don't like what I'm reading here :(((

EDIT: Fucking newcomers
Agreed. Deus Ex should be hardcore and cater as much to hardcore fans as possible. Auto-heal and lack of stats could kill the game. I'm also not cool with the art style they've shown so far. DX1 was hi-tech all the way from NYC to Paris.

What's Warren Spector doing these days anyway? And Harvey Smith?
Harvey Smith took the helm of a game called Blacksite: Area 51 (which bombed), and Spector...I dunno.

Knowledge is power, guard it well
You're cast as average joe Adam Jensen, who works as a private security officer at a technology lab specialising in biomechanical augmentations, a forerunner to the sort of nanotechnology shown in the original Deus Ex. One day the path of his life is unexpectedly altered as a team of black ops commandos break into his company's HQ, and using a security plan from Jensen's own hand, a mass slaughter ensues and the conspiracy begins.
What a shitty, generic premise.

Um, the original System Shock is easily the best of the three.
