The Chiefs got the help they needed Sunday and earned a date with Indianapolis in the wild-card round of the playoffs. But it won't be easy for the AFC's sixth seed as they head to the RCA Dome, where the Colts completed their first perfect season at home since 1958 when the Baltimore Colts won the NFL championship. Still, the key for the Chiefs will be the matchup of running back Larry Johnson, who set an NFL record for carries this season with 416, against an Indianapolis defense that has surrendered rushing yardage in bunches this year.

Despite owning the top wild card, Dallas goes into January having lost consecutive games for the first time all season. The Cowboys also have dropped three of four since owning a two-game division lead in early December. The situation is equally disappointing for the Seahawks, who needed a win in the finale to halt a three-game skid. "Our record isn't what we had hoped, to be honest with you, but there's something about 9-7 being a lot better than 8-8," coach Mike Holmgren said. The teams have met 10 times, with Dallas holding a 6-4 edge, but this will be the first postseason encounter.

It might be a reference to his contract which has given the Colts a lot of room to build a formidable defense.

Anyway I'm predicting Chargers vs. Ravens for the conference championship regardless of what happens in the wild card round, with the winner of that game beating whoever wins the NFC.
 
i still believe in the cowboys, but it will be a high scoring game. i dont trust the defense to stop anybody at all. Seahawks will have a better chance on 3rd and long.
 
The Playoff matchups are awesome this year. Cowboys, Eagles and Giants being in makes it ****en amazing.

I agree. Overall, this season has been incredibly fun to watch with all the parity and upsets. I hope the playoffs can continue the same amount of excitement that the regular season delivered.

AFC

Chiefs at Colts (LJ's wheels should fall off... and if not, the Colts will win with some home cooking calls + passing against that defense)
Jets at Patriots

Colts at Ravens
Patriots at Chargers (this game could really go either way, but I expect they will somehow contain LT and make Rivers mess it up)

Giants at Eagles (the magic will run out)
Cowboys at Seahawks (I don't feel safe picking either team, so I'm just going with the home team)

Seahawks at Saints
Giants at Bears (it's possible the Giants could somehow get hot or every single QB the bears use throws the game away, but I expect that Eli will do the same)

Saints at Ravens (more of a wishful pick than anything, but it could happen if the Ravens' offense somehow falls completely apart)

I'd kill for a Jets win against that cocksmoker Belichick this weekend, but I can't see it happening. Jets will keep it close, though. Pats by 5.

Giants @ Eagles
Unless Tiki saves them, I can't see how the G-Men can compete. They're falling apart all over the place. Eagles by 14.

Why the world should be rooting for the Jets to beat the Evil Bill Belichick:

September 14, 2006 -- If you really want to know about the state of the relationship between Eric Mangini and his mentor, Bill Belichick, read between these lines:

Question: "Eric, did you hear from Belichick after you won your first game?"

Mangini: "You know, we missed each other a couple times throughout the summer."

Huh?

"This probably won't be the week that we'll be chatting too much," Mangini added. "Our relationship is the same as it's been. He's always been a good friend."

To that we ask: How good a friend is a mentor who doesn't find the time to even have his secretary send a congratulatory e-mail Mangini's way?

If a little bit of bad blood is what you're looking for in Sunday's Jets home opener against Belichick's Patriots, then you've come to the right place. Let the Border War re-ignite.

Mangini never has acknowledged it, but it is fact through rock-solid sources in New England: Belichick, who has a complete disdain for the Jets and little respect for their owner, Woody Johnson, did not think Mangini should take the Jets job to the point where he tried to talk him out of it.

Once Mangini went off to interview and subsequently had the job offered to him, was it an accident that both he and his assistant, Erin O'Brien, were locked out of their Foxboro offices when they returned to work?

Their codes to get into the building apparently had been deactivated.

What was that? A wardrobe malfunction? Does that sound like a coincidence? Support?

Not exactly.

How about the fact that, according to some insiders in New England, the Patriots actually are withholding a couple of boxes of Mangini's office belongings from him, much to his disdain?

How about this softball question posed to Belichick yesterday: "Do you want to see Eric do well in his career, except this week against you?"

Belichick: "I'm more concerned about us doing well. Really, I don't sit around the league cheering for everybody else. I cheer for the Patriots. That's my team. Everybody else is on their own."

Mangini, who privately has been irked by the fact Belichick hinted to some people in the offseason that Mangini did not make the defensive calls during his season as defensive coordinator in 2005, has done everything he can to say the right things about Belichick so far this week, done everything he can to deflect the attention from him and Belichick.

Yesterday, Mangini even resorted to some humor, calling it "pretty funny" that the Manning vs. Manning hype of last week has shifted to Mangini vs. Belichick.

"I've seen us both play football and it's not pretty," Mangini quipped. "Nobody wants to watch that. It's not about Eric and Bill. It's Jets-Patriots. Bill and I are great friends."

Asked yesterday when the last time he spoke to his "great friend" was, Mangini said he couldn't remember the "exact date."

Asked if he thinks it's odd he and Belichick are hardly in touch with each other, Mangini said, "I wouldn't call it odd. There were points my mom was mad at me because I had not returned a call. And [with his wife] Julie, there's some nights where she's a little frustrated because I don't get to the phone quite early enough.

"I just think that sometimes that happens where you're extremely busy and you're trying to get the things done that you need to get done. I don't necessarily put any guidelines on friendships."

Finally, when Mangini was asked if Belichick encouraged or discouraged him about taking the Jets job, he said, "We talked about a lot of different things, and Bill is very good at just being objective and presenting information. At the end of the day, you have to make a decision for yourself."

That decision, despite anyone's politically-correct attempts to tell you otherwise, did not sit well with Belichick at the time and probably still doesn't. That's as good a reason as any for him not to have congratulated Mangini on his first victory as an NFL head coach.

It should make for an interesting pre-game hello between the two Sunday at Giants Stadium.

And since then the two teams have played twice. After the games were over, Belichick would meet Mangini in the middle of the field, not even make eye contact, shake his hand as quickly as possible and run off. No class scumbag.

January 1, 2007 -- As part of a massive four-year, $10 million contract with Disney, Tiki Barber is expected to work for both ABC News and ESPN, The Post has learned.

For ABC, Barber will be on two of its most prominent news programs. The agreement calls for Barber, 31, to work on both Good Morning America and 20/20. His exact position has yet to be fully defined.
For ESPN, his role is unknown, but Barber would figure to be a prime candidate if Tony Kornheiser were to decide to leave the Monday Night Football booth. An ESPN spokesman declined comment.
By retiring now, Barber relinquished a total of $8.3 million he was owed over the next two years by the Giants.
Instead Barber - barring an injury in the playoffs - will leave the game with his health and will make more money in total over the next four years.
While the average per year is less, the chance at a long TV career could prove much more lucrative than a few extra NFL paychecks.
If Barber ends up on ESPN's NFL broadcasts, he will likely need to make peace with analysts Michael Irvin and Tom Jackson. After Irvin and Jackson questioned Barber when his retirement plans became public, Barber shot back by labeling the duo "idiots."
Barber already has plenty of broadcasting experience. His long resume includes co-hosting Fox & Friends on Fox News every Tuesday morning.
In that role, Barber impressed network executives with his smoothness. Barber's representative had talks with all the networks, but ABC and ESPN were very aggressive from the moment Barber became available.

since i was gone for the weekend, ill just chime in with this now.

Even though by the time we played our game it was meaningless, this win still felt awesome. Its always good to beat down the falcons (mainly vick), and it feels even better when its the second string team the whole game.

I don't know what's making me pick the giants. By all means I expect them to self destruct and fail miserably against the Eagles... but then at the same time I almost think the eagles' run has been so improbable. I don't know, I may have to flop and pick the eagles over the giants.

btw, I still don't get what the hell Tiki's thinking. If he'd play a couple more years he'd probably be a lock for the hall of fame just based on stats, but instead he's going to leave it all behind to have some bit role on GMA and ESPN. If he winds up taking any NFL live "analyst" off the air, or anyone from MNF, I will be all for voting him into the hall as a broadcaster, though.

Some long time Baltimore fans are starting to get riled up at the thought that the Colts might have to come through Baltimore... It's incredible how much the hate is still there for something that happened in '84. Irsay might need a heavy security detail.
 
I am not exactly confident for this game, but GO GIANTS WOOOOO!

Problem is that unlike the Redskins, the Eagles know that they have to shutdown Tiki and will make Eli beat them. And, they also know that Eli sucks shit against blitzes or any other kind of pressure. I expect 8-9 in the box and an extra man coming on 2 of every 3 plays.

That would be a great matchup of defense against offense.

As a Colts fan it pains me to say this, but anyone who expects the Colts to do anything this postseason is crazy. I think they'll lose by double digits this weekend.

Just imagine the joy you will feel when Mangini run around the field trying to shake hands with the Pats asshole head coach.

Best possible scenario for my Jets. Hated rival who we beat on their own turf. Playing with house money. More relaxed than hippies at a hemp festival.

You beat them this weekend you play either the Chargers or Ravens, and lose.

I would like to be optimistic for you, but there is no way that any team (in their present forms) playing wildcard weekend will beat either the 1 or 2 seeds in the AFC, including (more like especially) the NFC wildcard teams.

Playing the Pats at home in the playoffs is no less difficult than playing either the Ravens or San Diego. Some would say it's worse, actually. Anything can happen.

That's all well and good, but you don't play defense against the weather or avoid tackles from raindrops to win a game. The Chargers and Ravens are that much better than the Pats. If the Jets can get through the Pats, and then through either of those teams, I will, buy you a Jets replica jersey of your choice.
