it says future Nintendo consoles and Smartphones/PCs. Nothing about WiiU.
it's just bad wording.
nintendo stated several times that we will be able to access our NNID from the 3DS, and that's not a future console.

Well, the implication may be one console only for each NNID, but the fact you can use it on a new console at all implies that this is something that can be fixed through software updates, and really needs to be because it's absurdly draconian and anti-consumer.

I Love Mondays for Giantbomb is up, near the last few minutes (12:10) Patrick gives some details on him calling Nintendo asking for his NNID to be switched over to a new console:

http://www.giantbomb.com/i-love-mondays-11192012/17-6814/

Turns out Nintendo customer service can't switch over NNIDs to a new console, it is completely locked, and they're looking into what they can do but are not optimistic that anything can be done.

So much for calling Nintendo.
What the fuck.

I really don't think people are mad because they won't be able to access it on 3ds.
let's reconnect the dots, for anyone who's not able/willing to do it by themselves:

you cannot login any account you created on another hw because the account is locked to said hw.
you cannot move any account from one hw to another.

the reason because you cannot do either is because you account is tied to the hw.
nintendo in a faq is stating that in the future you will be able to log you account to any other device.
therefore they will have to eliminate the lock to achieve this result.

What's the most Nintendo solution to this? Some sort of "one system only" license system, every time you active your NNID on a Wii U you forfeit it on the console it was previously registered with? Even then Nintendo would probably only allow you to transfer the license 3 times or something stupid.

They're not referring to other WiiUs but rather cell phones and PCs for their expanded connectivity stuff.

They are just barely getting online! Give'em a break! You have to remember they are about 10 years behind everyone else. Account management is a foreign concept.
This is pretty absurd, while it sucks and it is indefensible in no way this limitation exists just because "Nintendo is inexperienced with online", they put this restriction there, deliberately, because there's no other way it could have happened.

They will restrict you in a way that will force you to buy a console (something I can actually not do with a 360 for instance) if you want to play games. They obviously thought this would be just a minor inconvenience for a small amount of people but I hope they get the message soon that this is simply not acceptable.

I'm sceptical that there's legitimately nothing that can be done for transferring systems...at the very least forever. This strikes me as customer service basically saying they can't do anything now, because Nintendo hasn't provided them with any tools or options to do so. The 3DS has a system transfer option, and it was possible to do so via customer service with the Wii. In the latter case, to my knowledge, it was literally an entire NAND/firmware copy.

I can't see Nintendo not providing customer service/technicians with the tools to do these kinds of transfers, eventually.

For now though it's still inexcusably bad.
I'm sure they can do it if your system is broken. They said the same thing about Wii for a long time and when mine broke 3 months after launch they ported my purchases over. I lost my saves and had to redownload, but everything I bought made it.

Man, this makes that thread where people without a Wii U were asking other people to make accounts for them so they could reserve their name hilarious in hindsight.

this is going in circles... they also mentioned future consoles, and in previous interviews/directs nintendo mentioned several times that you will be able to connect to your NNID from your 3DS...
the 3DS is not a future console, is current console...
if they can make it happen on the 3DS they can do as well on the wii u

That's like trying to connect the dots on a pony picture and coming up with a lion.

It'not that people are "not able to connect the dots". It's the the dots seem to be pretty well laid out and they don't paint a pretty picture. It seems like you can use the same NIND on different systems(as that has very little impact when it comes to duplicating content on multiple consoles) but not on different consoles.

Example: You can use the same NIND on a PC, 3DS, and Wii U, because by their logic you can't replicate Wii U content on a 3DS or vice versa. But you can't use the same NIND on 2 different 3DSs or 2 different Wii Us, because they share the exact same content. Get the difference there?

The wording of that is way too poor to make the assumption you can log into that account on another Wii U.
I don't buy the reasoning that 'of course it has to happening because it would be to terrible for them not to'

Since people are overblowing this a little bit too much I'll just leave this here.

Says on nintendo support page. At this time it isn't possible.

the picture is not perfectly lied out, i agree with you, but just like i'm assuming a positive ending, you guys are assuming a negative one.

let's wait and see, that's all i'm saying.

Wow, so I can't simply go to my buddy's house and sign in and get my profile/stats? I understand not being able to share the games on my profile amongst consoles, but the former is a pretty ordinary and expected use. So are we supposed to do a Wii U to Wii U transfer if something breaks? That doesn't even make sense because one would be broken. I imagine this is the sort of oversight that will be corrected with enough bitching. It's like Nintendo did what we asked but did not understand the point of our request.

How can they charge $70 on digital downloads without any guantee you'll be able to retrive them should your Wii U fail? Is this even legal? Just gobsmacked

I think the problem most people have with that is that there should not be a wait. This is something that was there day 1 for current gen systems. What happens if Nintendo releases an update tomorrow and people brick their Wii Us? Or if something unexpected happens to them? The fact that they've had not one, or two, but three consoles to test the waters(Wii, DS and 3DS), and then come out with the Wii U and pull this off is what is so unacceptable for many, and thus why people have a very very pessimist attitude towards the outcome of this.

So if you console gets bricked let's say installing one of these 'small' firmware upgrades that barely fit in your storage and you buy another one you loose all your digital games?
I'd guess the only option would be to send it to them and hope they can fix it. They implemented accounts but totally missed the point of why people were begging for them in the first place.
