Ninja Theory's new post-apocalyptic title Enslaved

Post-apocalyptic could also be more interesting if it wasn't decades after the disaster.. I'd like to see a game with pretty much society going down the drain real fast, but with still a lot of the infrastructure/communities intact. Maybe I Am Alive will offer something like it.

Regarding Enslaved, with the talent involved, I'm interested. Hope it can distinguish itself from the other post-apo games.

Shit I thought Lost Odyssey looked pretty good, though the frame rate was atrocious at times, and some of the loading times were ridiculous.

Kinda bummed that this is more than likely going to run on UE3. However, the recent Batman: Arkham Asylum looked amazing on said engine (as did Gears of War 2 and Mirror's Edge), so there is still hope. I enjoyed Heavenly Sword quite a bit, so I am very interested in seeing how this turns out.

Not so sure about Namco Bandai as a publisher though :/

So is a sort of "Journey to the West / Sayuki".

Oh shit!

The headband used for punishment, the main character is called monkey.

You're right, thats definately Sayuki.

Well, I think the post-apoc setting gets used sometimes as an excuse so they don't have to have lots of people/buildings, etc.. It's easier to create a wasteland (or alien planet/space station etc..) than a realistic setting, because with a realistic setting people notice all the stuff that's wrong a lot sooner.

So it's still a third person action-adventure type game? And still melee combat or guns?

That actually sounds really fucking awesome. Something a bit like Cloverfield or War of the Worlds, where there is some sort of disaster event and you (and perhaps your friends) are caught in the middle of it, trying to escape.

Batman: AA is one of a kind. Seriously, how many games, that uses UE3, looks as good as Batman: AA? and there are a lot of games that uses that engine...

I'll buy this game, I don't have any problems with buying a UE3 game, but I wouldn't expect so much, at least, in graphic terms

Not many.

Gears of War 2 (Even though it looks a bit suspect in certain spots)
Mirror's Edge
BioShock

I really hope the excellent acting and story telling continues in their future endeavours. Heavenly Sword was soooo good. I'd be excited to Andy Serkis on board again too.

Exactly! I'd so love to see it. Even though right now it could probably only be achieved with sandbox-game level technology, it'd still be cool, I think. Could be aliens, bombs, virus, zombies, whatever, I'd like to see a society in the process of going to the shitters, not a environment gone south a long time. I guess it's a matter of time though :). As said, it'd be a lot more work. But the first company to tackle it properly would offer something new.

Yeah, i'd love to see this too. I absolutely LOVE disaster films (this is the correct term for the films we are speaking of), and I don't see why a disaster game isn't possible. The game would obviously need to be heavily scripted, with all sorts of crazy shit going on around you. Needless to say, such a game would be absolutely ridiculous in co-op.

I loved Heavenly Sword, so I will buy their new game at day one.
I've found that story is best told with really good cutscenes, so HS were great.
It had fantastic characthers and the superstyle-moves were great.
Everyone should buy that game, if they havn't allready, it's cheap now. :)

Don't like that they've gone over to use the Unreal Engine tough, I hate that engine.
The last UE-games I played (Deadspace and BioShock) were hyped up by the press, as games with incredible story, but that were a lie.
I did manage to chore myself through Dead Space, it were rather mediocre, it looked OK, but you could see the UE-style, and it weren't particulary hard to put it down, every evening I stopped playing.
I tried Bioshock, right afterwards, but stopped playing after two/three hours or so, when nothing happened, and I realised it were overhyped 360-crap, with no story.
Perhaps the game would be better later on - but I had better games unopened. :)

Gears runs great with UE3, Mirror's Edge runs great with UE3, and Batman runs pretty damn good with UE3.

lulz. so much is wrong with this, its taking everything inside me to not troll the living shit out of the guy responsible for this horrific dogshit of a post :|

At any rate, Dead Space isn't UE3. It also looks considerably better than anything ever released on said engine, by the way.

somewhat interested if they maintain their taste in style and the technology for the face capturing (including hiring real Hollywood/TV actors).
HS had some of the best (game engine) cutscenes this gen

just look at this (making of):

Edit: cutscene example:

It's ridiculous that most "high profile" games (even today) are not even close in this aspect/technlogoy.
Your right still amazing. Loved every minute of it.

Yes it is, and so is Half-Life 2. Humanity is on the brink of extinction and the world is a war-torn wasteland filled with monsters. It's the end of days for the human race.
Post Apocalyptic happens after everything is said and done. Gears of War 2 is Apocalyptic, meaning the apocalypse is in progress. They are still in a war and the resolution is still uncertain. It's not a post apocalyptic game.

So it's a Journey to the West-inspired game? Anyone else think it's funny that Namco Bandai is essentially making another game that draws parallels to Dragon Ball? :lol

Thats one of the things they did wrong in the first place with their last effort, so I hope not.

Sort of, but Sayuki inspired so much stuff, it's really not that surprising.

I guess this is pretty much a no brainer, but I talked to Namco earlier and they said a formal announcement and HD assets should be posted soon, so if GI isn't available in your area, you won't be missing out on much.

John Harker

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.
Why don't games let you play during the apocalypse?
That seems far more interesting to me.

All these worlds are already destroyed, I get it, whatever.
I wanna play during the destruction, and yea, whatever, we lose, so what, it just seems like a more interesting and dynamic setting then 'oh look, we must stop ourselves from making the same mistakes we did in the past! oh i found cool technology in a cave from our ancestors woohoo'

mainly zombie games have done that. Resident Evil 2 and 3 were pretty good for creating that feel even if it wasn't a worldwide apocalypse.

Seems some pics now and read some of the blurb... I definitely like where this is going...pics look good as well...poor quality, but definitely doesn't look like typical UE3 to me

It's nice that Nariko is making a guest appearance in this game.

That's what I meant. Aside from her hair not being nearly as long, she looks nearly identical to Nariko.

HS was amazing (still my favorite PS3 game) but thats probably because Sony Cambridge staged an intervention and it had a huge budget.

I would, and I'm right more often than you are. Here's a great idea, let's have this stage actor double as director.

I'm not feeling this at the moment.
The main character seems taken out of Tekken (and why he's shirtless, it's completely out of context?!), in the magazine he goes around skyscrapers ruins with a female partner who looks like a Nariko clone :)lol ) beating down robot enemies. Graphics are clearly UE3 based and in the magazine it doesn't look impressive at all (definetly worse than HS).
Looking forward to see it in motion, hoping that the screens don't make it justice.

Details - Scans are also 'out there'.

Looks good visually, Trip bares an uncanny resemblance to Nariko though. (albeit Trip's hair is pulled back & she's actually wearing more clothes than a couple of bed sheets.)

Looks hot too. :lol

High Motion Picture like production values:

1.) “Directed” by Andy Serkis (Gollum!)

2.) A cinematographer was hired to make the “camera work” in the game more conventionally like that of an actual motion picture scene.

3.) Alex Garland (screenwriter for 28 Days Later) worked on the story to flesh it out.

4.) Tools and story telling approach will be similar to the cutscenes from Heavenly Sword with facial expressions and motion capture providing body language cues during dialogue.

5.) The game is loosely thematically based on “Journey to the West”, the Chinese novel about the adventures and taming of the great powerful (and tricky) Monkey King.

Setting:

Principle antagonist is robots who are harvesting huamn survivors and taking them westward on automated airships for some reason. Set in a dark post apocalyptic future where mankind is almost extinct and takes place in the vine covered ruins of New York City with some recognizable land marks.

Plot and characters:

In the game, you play a blond, spikey haired, tatooed or scar-branded (it’s hard to be sure) muscle-bound male survivor. His name is Monkey and is used to doing things on his own. Andy Serkis does his voice and served as his motion capture source. He smashes robots with his bare hands and is kind of rude and agressive and self centered. When you smash robots you get orbs. Smashing robots real good gets you more orbs. Orbs let you upgrade Monkey’s fighting and weapons. Moankey mainly fights with a staff (like the Monkey King!).

You are reluctantly protecting a civilized, educated, red-haired woman named Trip who has managed to gain power over you by hacking a head crushing “slave collar” device taken from a robot ariship, and then attaching it to your head while you are unconcious. If she’s not happy it’s bad for you. Thus you are “enslaved”. She wants you to escort her back to her village. She also seems to want you to help others when that might not be such a good idea. She’s your conscience and a pain in the butt. You apparently intend to make her suffer when you get her home safe and get the collar removed. As the game goes on, she gradually teaches you to value others more than you did before and you gradually “corrupt” her into seeing that sometimes the barbarian really knows best and that many of her community oriented ideals are just naive.

Trip sneaks through smaller passages and hacks computers to solve puzzles that Monkey can’t get by on his own.

Neither Monkey or Trip know enough about the city they are travelling through to really understand it. Part of the fun is watching them misinterpret stuff that is common to our every day experienece. There are audio and video files that you find that gradually tell the story of what happened to mankind.

Robots are of varied levels of sophistication starting with metal piston and hose types and leading to those that mimic living things. They are in varying conditions, and different actions will be required to disable them. Gameplay is melee and combo oriented but also has a newer tactical dimension. For instance you may tear a loose machine gun off of one robot with faulty guns, and then throw a robot with a bad power supply into a bunch of other robots, and use the torn off gun to detonate the power supply and take all the robots down (or something like that).

Trip has a camera/butterfly barette that give you some ability to see remotely sort of like Rau’s spirit bird in “Mark of Kri”.

The descriptions sound very interesting. I'm sure they'll improve on what they had before as far as gameplay, and it does make me intrigued to see what is going to happen in the game.

My God where to begin.
1. Dead Space doesn't use the UE
2. 360 crap? They're on 360, PS3 and PC.
3. Their stories are better than most games out there. While it may not be of the highest level in general, for video game terms it's really impressive.
4. You're just a sad fanboy, I feel for ya.
5. Cheers

Saw the scans... the chick looks like a younger, better looking version of Nariko, nice. In general.. not really interested yet. Need to see a gameplay pic.

I've never understood why more games don't employ traditional camera work - seems a no brainer to me and would make cut-scenes sooo much better.
