What's funnier about that thread is all the people that said they wouldn't buy it because of the price, that probably bought it within the first year.

lol $50 too much!!! is stated so many times. (talk about hindsight, the people even exclaimed Wii Sports as being worth $50!!!)

I guess Ill be *careful* of what I say in the 3DS thread, lol. Im still waging on 220-249$. If its cheaper than that, lol, then I will be excite!

While I wouldn't be surprised to see this, I'll be amazed to see Nintendo do it

Nah I doubt it will run Android. Android environmet is not really gamesfriendly. Though I suppose they could code directly against the hardware and skip the java-api:s.

Does not seem like nintendo style. It will run a custom, very basic OS with a webbrowser and camera.. like DSI

It took over 3 years, but my DS Lite has just developed a stress fracture on its left hinge.
:(
The touchscreen also has some static pixels too. I hope the 3DS really comes out no later than March next year, otherwise I'll probably pick up a regular DSi.

I agree. Android would make the system great. All of those apps. The dsiware store is sorta a fail.

hm, im on my third ds lite, the first hinge cracked, the second had dead pixel (it also had that odd touch screen grid that was unlike any of the other ds lites I had seen), fortunately this one I currently have works like a charm.

I hope they put more focus on workmanship into the 3DS

so, erm, why don't you put a probability to that?
Since I was the one who had that wild thought that it might be iOS4 (iPhone) compatible, I'll start.

3DS will be iOS4 compatible, including App Store access - 25%

3DS will be iOS4 compatible, excluding App Store access - 30%

If this thing really does have a useable OS and a good browser they are going to have a field day presenting this thing on top of the 1st party games they obviously have

here is my ultimate hope for an AM2 developed F-zero as a launch title

I'd pay the 250-300 or whatever it will cost if they have some killer software and it can let me look at lexi belles ass in my face

Yeah. The Xbox 360 and PS3 can turn off their HD, so it is a good observation.

If 3D was the thing for the system, then Nintendo wouldn't give the user the ability to just turn it off at will. They would have forced it upon everyone.

And that is an insanely stupid analogy you bring.

How come?

Don't you remember before the 360 and PS3 came out? Their HD capabilities were all the rage before we knew of the games.

Same for 3DS. Motion control was also the thing for the Wii, yet we still have Classic Controller and Gamecube support for a lot of games.

I wonder if LA Times will "leak" 3DS on their Tuesday morning paper.

It happened with both DS and Wii.

At that point it wouldn't really matter, considering the conference would be in a few hours.

Well, that's true, and Nintendo seems to think the same way since they probably gave LA Times a permission to publish the news with DS and Wii.

No power or start button since the home button does all of those things.

That's not really true.

If you check on the system's options menu, you can change the screen resolution from 1080, 720, or 480.

It changes the screen resolution, which you can notice on an HDTV.

Yes, I'm not daft. I meant that rendering at an sd resolution doesn't really turn off hd so to speak. The 360 outputs all content at 720p. It uses a hardware scaler to scale that output resolution to the resolution of your tv--whether that's an sdtv at 480i or an HDTV at 1080p.

The picture is the same, just the clarity is different. Playing Gears of War in SD doesn't tone down the textures or geometry rendered, it just makes it harder to see on your tv.

Insofar as 3d can trivially be used to actually implement gameplay possibilities that will not be possible with the 3d slider turned off, the comparison doesn't make sense.

!

So that's why I thought Demon's Souls looked incredibly blurry on my CRT SDTV when my friend brought his PS3 over... Well, I guess that's the one advantage the Wii has over the HD consoles for being SD :lol.

It will definately have a memory card slot (SD or microSD). Homebrew will make everything possible.

However one should consider that the 3D button could serve an anti-class-action purpose.

Dear Mr. Iwata,
my son developed bad headaches playing your last product, here I demand fair compensation.
Mrs. Soccer mum.

Dear Mrs. mum,
next time look at the warning screen and just turn 3D off.
Dearly,
Iwata

...more or less.

It makes plenty sense. This has been discussed before in this thread, though. Like, would it be like the 360, were having SD or not will change how games perform on the system, or would it be like a PC, switching from 3D to 2D to have better performance?

Would games have to be made with 3D in mind?

nah it will be a slider with peoples eye sight in mind... i imagine it will move the two images apart or whatever to create the stronger 3d effect

nintendo are worried about eyes after virtual boy :lol

You may be oversimplifying a little. The 360 renders everything at a resolution set by the developers. Typically it's 1280x720, but occasionally it's different.
