Nintendo 3DS Region Code confirmed by Nintendo JP Support

VOOK

We don't know why he keeps buying PAL, either.

The DSi put Australia and Europe/UK under one 'region', so -if they're still using the same region code for 3DS- you can still import from them, I suppose.

This only applies for the games, the store - not so much.

Osu Tatakae Ouendan is on my top of DS games, I could not have played it if it was region locked... (EBA is crap).

EBA had "You're the inspiration" by Chicago (*sniff*) and Walkie Talkie Man... it wasn't crap, it just wasn't as brilliant as Ouendan

Screw it, first the battery and now this. As an Australian importing is pretty much a must or you can wait 6 months for a game, like we're currently doing for Kirby's Epic Yarn on the Wii mind you.

I'm over it Nintendo, when I saw this I was saying "hell yeah day one, that looks sweet" now I'm saying "not even going to buy one, even if it does get hacked".
what about importing the 3ds itself if you import so much?

I'm out as well until someone hacks it. Region coding means I won't be able to play a single game.

As long as Pokemon is on it I will still buy it, but it's like they're trying to push me away, price and battery and analog slider and mandatory hacking included. Heck, I'm starting to consider skipping Pokemon the next gen and playing it through BC later.

so uh, if you import so much, why don't you get an import 3ds?
(for me at least) warranty, European charging cable, and not pissing myself from such an expensive thing going through air delivery without warranty. Also a couple of smaller bonuses I get from buying it at a store near me.

How long does it usually take to get back a response from Nintendo? I haven't recieved anything back so far.

It depends on if they're just gonna send you an automated message or not.

I wanted Reggie in Brawl, dammit

A long time ago the Australian government legalized the selling of PS2 modchips purely because the PS2 was region locked. I can it happening again if region free flash carts started popping up.

tinycartridge copypasta'd my post (with a very gracious hat tip) about the pros and cons of choosing to buy a 3DS from each region.

thanks for the acknowledgement guys and i love the site!

Uhh, well he's complaining about the region protection. You can import the system, but you can't play the games from his country.

I am actually glad, since the homebrew scene will start sooner this way

This will probably be the first hack implemented. Running off of an SD card or not. ;)

I'm not sure. I was on the fence about picking a 3DS up on the Japanese launch, but leaning towards it. However the region protection is making me pull back from that thought.

I've never had to accept region protection in the past on handheld game systems, and at the price Nintendo is asking for the 3DS I'm not sure if I want to start now.

This is killing my idea of buying one for the time being.

Keep in mind customer service reps know less about these things than we do. I'm speaking from experience, I worked at Nintendo as a Gameplay Counselor when the Virtual Boy came out: we were given information about the Virtual Boy three weeks before its release, we were able to buy the systems two weeks before release. Before that, no word at all about the VB, and it wasn't in the computers.

So this showed up in the funny pictures thread in the OT. Not sure if it's real or not.

Fucking stupid, especially for a portable system.
If I travel to Europe, now I cant buy a 3DS game at the airport store.

If anything region locking encourages piracy. I don't want to buy a new system, so I install a custom homebrew. Oh the game that I was planning on import suddenly seems so expensive...

The first icon is a DS card labeled micro SD. 3DS doesn't use micro SD, micro SD is what you put into DS flash cards.

The second icon is clearly a GBA cartridge.

If that doesn't convince you, down at the bottom it has a copyright of 2007.

That and the woman in the background is wearing a Nintendo dress from the Japanese event yet the date on the 3DS screen is todays.

Whichever one the SD card isn't in?
But the SD card is not the microSD. The MicroSD on a flash cart would go in slot one.

The 3DS has an SD card slot. I suppose it's theoretically possible that it's a microSD in a SD adapter, but why would the software recognize it as that when it's in the SD card slot?

That, and what I can only assume is K-On porn on the bottom screen, kinda screams fake.

Seeing the glare from the light is totally ignored on the image on top screen gives it away.

Good. Crisis averted

I don't understand why the shopper didn't just crop out the woman.

It gives a location and date for the picture, so someone could within minutes pull up the original. Did they just want us to think that the Acekard people totally hang out with Japanese booth babes all day?

Image is too crisp for the 3D screen too. Part of why Nintendo officially bans picture taking at the events is because the screen makes pictures look like shit generally

Yep and the 3D light is on with the device heh

Haha didn't notice that.

Actually I noticed something funny with the 3D light on the 3DS when I played it.

There seems to be two modes with it; (depending on the game)

1. It's on when the 3D is on or when there is 3D available no matter what the position.
2. The light is on only when you have the slider switched up.

Weird :/

I know all of ya are saying this is lamo cause of the games but there's another reason it stinks! My original DS was a japan import cause NoA never bothered ta release the pink one in the US. So not only are we gonna be limited on what games we can play but also which color system we can have ~_~;

Now it's really official.

On regions:
Nintendo 3DS hardware is available in three versions: Japanese, American and European/Australian

Why:
Nintendo has developed different versions of Nintendo 3DS hardware to take into account different languages, age rating requirements and parental control functionality as well as to ensure compliance with local laws in each region. Nintendo 3DS also offers network services specifically tailored for each region.

Additionally we want to ensure the best possible gaming experience for our users and there is the possibility that Nintendo 3DS software sold in one region will not function properly when running on Nintendo 3DS hardware sold in another.

It will be mentioned on the packaging:
Guidance will appear on every packaging of Nintendo 3DS hardware and the accompanying software. If you are in doubt, Nintendo recommends that you only purchase Nintendo 3DS software in the region where purchased your Nintendo 3DS system.

Source: http://www.vg247.com/2011/01/18/nintendo-confirms-3ds-region-lock/

Can I just say something? Fuck you Nintendo and your desperate need to save the children. I'm a grown ass man in terms of what I can play any age rating of any region is not of my concern. I don't need you to tell me what I can and can't play. And your reason for stuff not working properly is a fucking bad excuse because things worked out wonderfully in the past.

What. The only possible reason games from one region wouldn't work well on a system from another region was if you specifically put in regional differentiation so the system is even aware that there is such a thing as regions.

The more I look at it, the screen size disparity between the top and bottom is getting weirder and weirder. They should have increase the size of the bottom one too.

Sorry to bump this old topic, but I couldn't find a better place for this question.

In regards to 3DS region lockouts, does this apply to DS titles as well? or just 3DS stuff?

thanks :)

You know, I just realized how funny it is to look back at old comments.

Anyway, aren't "enhanced" stuff simply just region lockout and nothing else?

All DSi Enhanced games ? Not sure about that. You won't be able to play all games using the GBA slot, such as Guitar Hero, or DSi Enhanced games that are not from the region of your 3DS. Basically, everything that would run on a DSi of your region will run on a 3DS of the same region ! :)

- Many internet-enabled games do it to be able to use WPA wifi.
- Some games offer extra modes that use the camera.
- A few games use the extra CPU speed (Sonic Collection).

The only region locked DSi enhanced games I know about are the Japanese versions of Pokémon Black & White. (I've never played anything else so forgive me for not knowing) Also, why did you bump this old topic. >_>;
