The message editor for the plazas has a spoiler function, and I'd guess there'll also be a way for other users to flag a message as a spoiler if it wasn't by the creator. Beyond filtering out strangers that's probably how Nintendo will handle that issue.

I'm probably alone on this, but if there's one game that would pretty much guarantee a Wii U purchase for me, it would be a sequel to Sunshine. As brilliant as both Galaxy games were, there's just something about SMS that works for me. I actually like Isle DelFino and thought using FLUDD was a blast.

Yeah it's still my favourite 3D Mario. Never got the hate.

Two things I hated about SMS: blue coins and the camera behind the ferris wheel.

Apart from that I liked the game.

Yeah, the camera is an issue in several places - particularly the FLUDDless levels since the sand blocks disintegrated below you while you were trying to move it.

But, overall, it's still my favorite 3D Mario game. There's just something so charming about it.

OK, so my though on everything:

- Classic controller: totally expected, looks great; don't know if symmetric design will be good till I try it, but since it's Nintendo, most probably will be pretty good

- NSMB graphically was rather nice, but wished backgrounds were animated

- Miiverse was superb; social aspect of their online infrastructure was superb

- I think many games will support the pro controller, cause many games will be multiplat and many games will be playable on the gamepad without the need of TV, which means they should be playable on TV and with pro controller

- that Zombie ad was awesome too; non-specific action figure approves is my favorite new meme, lol

Well, it was interesting. But that makes me wonder... Is there still a sensor bar? I play on a video-projector and I wonder if that will be compatible with the Wii U.

NeoGAF is up? Oh shit, better post fast lol

So this is basically Nintendo's image for this gen

I like it :D
System looks a bit boring though with that long, fat top. They should make it so the Wii U Game Pad charges when resting on top of it

that would be a wasted effort because most people setups would make either impossible or uncomfortable to rest the game pad on top of the console. Even more so if you can actually lodge the system on a vertical stand.

Because if the console itself was the sensor bar, it would be a problem because the console would be behind me. But if there is one, problem solved ^^

I just watched it and that first wiiU game play video was pretty damn cheesy, but I still liked it. A lot.
:lol @ chipmunk Iwata. Also I think Nintendo really underestimates the internet. The amount of penis doodles I foresee on the Miiverse is staggering.

I was having a discussion today with someone who really, really should have known better and I saw on their screen this thing about Wii U and we spoke about it briefly. "I don't get the point" he said "my kids love the wiimote thing, why didn't they just make a Super Wii or something". I told him that's what the Wii U basically was. "Oh, it's a whole new console?!" Sigh.

That pro controller is going to be the best controller ever.

Yeah looks rad. Symmetrical sticks for the fucken win, I just hope it's a touch smaller than the 360 pad.

this, i wonder how they're gonna solve this problem because this is inevitable. the moment i saw video chatting with grandpa, i asked myself what if he decided to be naked. lol

But the same half-a-second extreme horror closeup was used every time footage of the "game" was shown. How could you think that was genuine?

Er...no it wasn't. Plenty of close ups but a number of different zombies.

I just did a bunch of screencaps from the vid-

So yeah I just checked an upload on youtube and the video on the nintendo official site was edited somewhere. Possibly edited because of a spoiler or something? Or maybe they added an extra part to the nintendo.com which explains why Iwata was fast forwarded.

Really excited about Miiverse. It's hard to believe it's coming from Nintendo. I hope to hear more about Nintendo Network at E3. Wii U Controller Pro is also great news. Cautiously optimistic about Wii U now.

Actually this a very easy function to develop. I've been thinking about this months ago for a video game website. In an actual game, this will be even easier:
Developers, and very easily thanks to the SDK, can automaticaly assign a spoiler value each time you send a message, or list the game message board.
For example in Zelda, if you are at the third dungeon, your messages are automatically labelled "3" and you can't see the other gamer's messages that have a value of 4 or higher.

The anti pedo-predators and penis technology will be much more challenging for Nintendo, and that's actually my main concern about last nights announcements.

Don't know if it's hard to believe. It's a melding of the Wii channels and the Mii Plaza/Parade channels. With a bit of inspiration from the Demon/Dark Souls messaging.

'Ello 'ello 'ello. What' all this then?

As I said before, judging from poly count and texture quality, probably just an old-ass prototype or tech demo recycled for this video, heck, I think Iwata even especified that the video was a mock up and wasn't going to show actual gameplay or something like that. It would be very stupid of them just showing E3 2011 stuff precisely to avoid showing any new game and then blowing an actual new game just because they didn't have anything better suited to show.

Though I really liked Xbox 360's original blade interface and wish they hadn't changed it or let you choose to keep using it.

There's a very simple way to re-enable access to the blade interface since they replaced it with the "New Xbox Experience." Here's the step-by-step process:

1) Press the guide button.

I think there are two levels of things gong on.

The first is that every game, I think, will have its own 'plaza' where Miis related to you (either by friends list or geography/language) can leave comments or updates about the game. And you can see a feed of those things. Developer doesn't have to do anything for that, it exists outside the game, on the OS side.

The second seems to be an API that devs can use to access and/or create event/time-stamped 'social data' around their game - comments being made at specific points in the game etc, and use it in-game. Up to devs to use that, and to expose the data to the player as they see fit.

Spoilers could be controlled pretty naturally using the second system. The first could be more open to abuse, so may depend more on you own moderation of the Miis who can contribute to your feed (e.g. friends only).

Even in the first case it could be possible for developers to specify a list of spoiler words/phrases linked to progression metadata (so a certain word is flagged as spoiler if you haven't completed chapter four, as example). It shouldn't be any more complicated than hooking up achievements to a game.

The exploration from Mario 64/Super Mario Sunshine is sorely lacking in newer 3D Mario games.

Exactly. Again, I like the Galaxy games, but that aspect is definitely missing and I'd love the next one to have that back again. In a lot of levels of SMS it's just fun to run around and look at everything and see if you can find an area you haven't noticed before.

Can someone with some decent Photoshop skills post a picture of the old guy in the video chat with the creepy old guy's face from Family Guy? That is what I was thinking when I watched the stream.

Saddest part is that Mario World is going to get NSMB Mii raped.

Should have left it for a new series by a talented team like EAD Tokyo :-(

somehow Nintendo's 30 minute pre-E3 show was better than the entire Microsoft press conference. this hopefully bodes very well for tomorrow.

The stand for the GamePad is revealed in the presentation. Here's a few closeup frames of the stand for the GamePad — it's located between his awesome flannel and his jeans.

I imagine it will also charge the controller, especially if you compare to the 3DS.
