I've done a little house-keeping on the ratings lists, but I'd appreciate input from other GAFers as well - I'm sure I'm missing a fair few, and it would be good to get everything up-to-date again.

NINTENDO DOWNLOAD: GRIDIRON ACTION, ART STYLE ANTICS, ROBOT BATTLES AND SEDUCTIVE BETS

Aug. 3, 2009

The onset of August means summer is winding down, but the downloadable action at the Wii™ Shop Channel and Nintendo DSi Shop™ just keeps on heating up. Two new WiiWare™ offerings deliver futuristic robot foes and sultry poker opponents, respectively. On the Virtual Console™, there's great news for football fans as the arcade classic TECMO BOWL™ makes its way to the Wii system. And on Nintendo DSiWare™, you'll find a fresh addition to the eye-pleasing, mind-bending Art Style™ game series.

WiiWare

OVERTURN
Publisher: Studio Zan Inc.
Players: 1-4
ESRB Rating: E10+ (Everyone 10 and Older) - Fantasy Violence
Price: 800 Wii Points™
Description: OVERTURN is a futuristic robot-versus-robot fighting game. Choose from eight different robots to pilot and master, using various close-range and long-range weapons to blast away enemies in six single-player tournaments. Unlock secret modes and up to 12 new weapons. Customize your robot's color and weapons to prepare for your next battle. Then take the action online to play in a two-player Versus battle or a four-player Battle Royale match. Search the world for Friends or other players who are online and ready for battle. Players with the optional Wii Balance Board™ can use it to control their robots by shifting their weight.

Sexy Poker™
Publisher: Gameloft
Players: 1
ESRB Rating: M (Mature) - Simulated Gambling, Suggestive Themes
Price: 500 Wii Points
Description: Get your pulse racing with a game of strip poker against a selection of six lovely manga-style women who may wind up in nothing but swimsuits or underwear when the final hand is dealt. Choose the classic Texas Hold'em Poker to be thrilled as the bets increase, or try the Black Jack game for a mix of chance and strategy. Discover the girls' personalities: they'll bluff you! Enter the photo gallery to see the pictures you've unlocked by playing and winning. If you're good enough, Emi, Sakura and their seductive girlfriends will bet their clothes to stay in the game.

Virtual Console

TECMO BOWL
Publisher: Tecmo
Players: 1-4
ESRB Rating: E (Everyone)
Price: 600 Wii Points
Description: Released in 1987, the football game that took America by storm is back. This arcade version required a custom-made dual-screen cabinet and was popular for its large characters and intense graphics. The game is filled with great action as players take control of receivers and running backs, quickly moving the controller to break a tackle. Play alone or with up to four players in a two-on-two match. Experience the best moments of both competitive and cooperative play, finding holes in your opponent's defense, then savor the thrill of receiving a pass thrown by your teammate. In addition, game options such as play time, team division and difficulty level can be adjusted.

Nintendo DSiWare

Art Style: precipice™
Publisher: Nintendo
Players: 1
ESRB Rating: E (Everyone) - Comic Mischief
Price: 500 Nintendo DSi Points™
Description: The sky is falling in the form of cubes in the action-oriented Art Style: precipice. Watch for the telltale shadow to avoid seeing your character get crushed by a falling cube while climbing the stacked cubes to ascend to the floors above. Push, pull or shove cubes to make your climb easier. Try to gain extra points by stepping on five cubes in a row on the same floor. In addition, you'll encounter special cubes that can either be helpful or harmful to your effort. Choose from either TEN FLOORS mode, which challenges you to reach the tenth floor while scoring as many points as possible, or TOWER mode, which gives you the chance to climb as high as you can. Do you have what it takes to make it to the top, or will you be crushed?

Hey! Look at that, a VC game! It's a good thing we didn't all jump to conclusions and asume that the VC was dead, because otherwise this would be embarassing...

Plinko

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage
Art Style looks decent, but the rest is meh.

It's also worth noting the DSi update later today that focuses on sending images to Facebook.

FACEBOOK CONNECT PHOTO INTEGRATION WITH NINTENDO DSI LAUNCHES TODAY

Free New Integration Lets Users Upload Photos to Their Facebook Profiles

REDMOND, Wash., Aug. 3, 2009 – Starting today, Nintendo DSi™ owners have even more ways to share their experiences with friends and family. Using an Internet-connected Nintendo DSi system and the Nintendo DSi Camera application, Facebook members can take pictures with either of the system's two cameras and upload their photos directly to their Facebook profile. This function will be available after 5 p.m. Pacific with a free downloadable system update.

While reviewing pictures they've stored in the Nintendo DSi Camera album, which includes photos taken by users and manipulated using the built-in interactive lenses, users can simply tap the Facebook icon on the system's touch screen to instantly transmit photos to the user's Facebook profile. The user's system must be configured to a wireless broadband Internet connection for the transmission of photos.

"Facebook and Nintendo DSi build on the trend of personalization that is so important to consumers," said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. "We're giving people the tools to express themselves in creative new ways and show off the results to their friends and family on Facebook."

Nintendo DSi has sold more than 1.7 million units in the United States alone, according to the NPD Group. The third iteration of the world's best-selling portable video game system includes photo- and voice-manipulation features that allow users to customize their experiences like never before.

Remember that Nintendo DSi features parental controls that let adults manage the content their children can access. For more information about this and other Nintendo DSi features such as the new integration with Facebook Connect technology, visit www.NintendoDSi.com.

The arcade version of Tecmo Bowl? At least they are finally supporting VCA again. Although, with this being the only VC update in 3 weeks, I was hoping to see more, especially with the WiiWare selection being somewhat weak this week.

The final Art Style game yay!

So would this be the thread for sharing facebooks accounts (Since this afternoon FB Uploading from the DSi is coming, it says so in the other pr)

I created a new facebook account the other day (Old one got banned because of my name. So I retried it by getting a new FB account. No harm if all else fails they just ban me again and I'll probally quit it. Just wanted to try the DSI upload and how it works. Shame Nintendo did'nt have twitter uploads) just for this I have quite a few photos and take more weekly. (And with this I'll probally edit more to)

Dunno how to post my facebook url to here tho...

precipice sounds neat. What was it called in other regions?

Can't say I care about Facebook integration. Would rather just send phone pix to whatever service I want, like the gateway on my own site...

How people can still say Nintendo is for kids when they are allowing Sexy Poker where you play Strip Poker with hot Manga women is beyond me.

I'm astonished that Nintendo would release Sexy Poker to be honest, even if it is censored.

At least we have proof that Virtual Console is still alive, plus new Art Style.

Updated the ratings lists with Capndrake's additions, and removed the two new WiiWare games released today from the ESRB list.

So any opinions about this artstlye game?

None personally yet, though I've been reading a few Kubos reviews. Sounds like it can get frustratingly hard, particularly when your little guy runs out of energy.

I might give it a spin, but Zengage killed my must-buy streak for Art Style.

As long as people don't participate with it in real life, we'll all be ok!

Now you've done it, you've put me off buying anything this week. I'll be haunted by that mental image instead.

Is this the first M-rated VC/WiiWare game?

I was wondering the same thing. I remember something else being M rated though... Just can't think of what it was.

I believe Splatterhouse was M rated. I'll go cheque.

Edit: Splatterhouse 1 on the Turbografx was T, while Splatterhouse 2 on the Genesis was M rated.

So yeah.

Also... I heard good things about Overturn on the Internet. I am curious as to what others will think of it. I might purchase it.

This is why I need to get back to keeping up with these releases. I gonna snatch Tecmo Bowl a little later and see what's up with that.

Taking a look at the list, I'm surprised Namco hasn't released a version of Cyber Sled for the US yet and I've yet to see a release date for Contra ReBirth. I do however find the ESRB rating description pretty funny though.

ESRB on Contra ReBirth said:
This is an arcade-style action game in which players control an elite soldier that battles an invading alien force. Players run through 2D, side-scrolling screens and shoot hordes of aliens and robot enemies. Guns, lasers, and rockets can be used to defeat enemies that cry out in pain and explode in brief fiery bursts.

I do have to thank you for this thread. It's a good way to keep up and catch up on these releases.

Yay, Nintendo's putting up a Virtual Console Arcade game! :D

What's the difference between Tecmo Bowl Arcade and Tecmo Bowl NES? I have the latter...

You already have the better one. Don't bother with the arcade version.

Okay.

I wonder if we're going to get Cyber Sled soon. If it has multiplayer, that's a day 1 for me.

I'm still kinda hoping that Cruis'n World makes an appearance, either the N64 version or the arcade version. With WBIE now owning most of the Midway catalog, now's the time to make good use of it.
