Great thread, as always. But this one has already been released in Europe: Guitar Rock Tour (Gameloft)

Bugger! Cheers for that :)

I'm sure there are other errors in there, so if anyone spots any just let me know!

Mighty Flip Champs is rated by USK, but not by PEGI: is it a mistake, not unusual, or do I have to worry?

I really want a DSiWare game to throw my bonus points into and Mighty Flip Champs seems to be the first worthy title in Europe, I can't wait anymore.

It could be an oversight on my part - I haven't checked the ratings sites fully for a wee while - but it does seem relatively common for one ratings body to rate a game before another, or at least to publish the rating first.

I'd say that if a game is rated by the OFLC, PEGI or USK there's a damn good chance it's coming to the PAL regions, even if it isn't on all three sites.

VOOK

We don't know why he keeps buying PAL, either.
Is that shooter out yet for DSi Ware? I don't know what I'm looking at on the Japanese store.

Thank you! Actually, what I was concerned about was the release date of the game being pushed away; because Mighty Flip Champs does appear on the official Nintendo site.

The new Famitsu has screens of a WiiWare game called Shadow Walker. There's not much to go on, but it looks like some kind of 3D puzzle game where you control a boy who can only walk along shadows cast by objects. Looks gorgeous for the platform.

Nice to see this still has some sort of classification... even if it's Oz, that means eventually US might get it. I've been waiting for a while for this one.

Does anyone have a list of the updated features for the Wii browser? Or did I miss it somewhere else?

And oh yeah, free 500 points come October or so! :D

YES
Like NOE will actually keep to their announced dates

This has gotten beyond the point of being a joke. Why must you torture me so, NOE.
I wonder if this will be 400 points cheaper for being 4 months late like Gradius Rebirth was

It's the Game Arts game that's been teased a few times already, an action game dated for October in Japan for 1000points.

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.
Havent been following WiiWare in ages, has Zombies Ate My Neighbors launched yet?
Or any other cool SNES-area RPGs?

The only SNES RPGs on the VC are Super Mario RPG, Secret of Mana and Breath of Fire 2. There are tons of great games in other genres though!

Oh and ZAMN isn't out yet but Lucasarts have just started releasing their games on the VC (The Super Star Wars Trilogy is out now, with the exception of Return of the Jedi which should be coming out next week) so there's nothing stopping ZAMN from coming out now :D

Hudson Interview: Military Madness

milmad.png

The game is set to debut on Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network and WiiWare. Were there any difficulties getting the game to work on all platforms?

PD: It’s always challenging to take a game built for XBLA or PSN and adjust it for WiiWare. For the first two platforms – our developer could make simultaneous builds with few problems. They did a great job for WiiWare, and we ended up with a game that really doesn’t differ all too much from the XBLA & PSN versions.

3 SKUs mean more people must be on board. How many people are working on this game, and how long has it been in development for?

PD: There were about 13 people at the developer & 3 of us here in the product development group at the Publisher. The development and QA have taken a total of about 10 months.

Does the WiiWare use Wii Remote pointer controls?

PD: No, this series is made for simple button controls and we didn’t want to tack on any unnecessary features. Besides, some Military Madness maps, especially the later ones, can take 45 minutes or more. I can’t imagine anyone wants to point their arm at their TV for that long.

WTF?!?! Does he think that everyone who wants to play the game has Parkinsons or something? That might the dumbest quote I've read from a Wii developer yet, and that's really saying a lot.

To be fair I'm not sure if pointer controls would work all that well on a grid-based game. All the same, the option to use it wouldn't hurt.

I agree, but saying that still makes him sound really ignorant and out of touch.

Just for reference, the average Mario Galaxy play session for US Nintendo Channel users is just under 2 hours, and the average Metroid Prime 3 session lasts over 2 hours, and I've never heard anyone complain about having to constantly point at the screen in those games (or any other game, for that matter).

Europe:

Konami unleashes Contra Rebirth on WiiWare!
Classic arcade shooter heads to Wii from September 4th

Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH has announced it will unleash an all-new version of its classic Contra series on Wii from September 4th.

Entitled Contra Rebirth, the new game retains the all-action mix of platform and shooting elements that has established the series as a genre classic, as is available for just 1000 Nintendo Points.

Series heroes Bill Rizer and Lance Bean return to blast their way through five alien-laden stages, picking up a wealth of collectible weaponry along the way. Machine guns, shot guns, homing missiles and lasers are used to lay waste to wave after wave of the Neo-Salamander invasion force, while Contra’s classic end-of-level bosses return in typically grandiose style.

With three difficulty levels, Contra Rebirth contains everything that made the Contra series so renowned: guns, monsters, and a tough challenge!

ESRB update of surprises:

Crash 'N The Boyz: Street Challenge

Platform: Wii

Rating: Everyone

Content descriptors: Cartoon Violence

Rating summary: This is a collection of sports mini-games in which players control small, stubby characters that compete in hurdles, swimming, pole-vaulting, and judo events. During the swimming event, players can dunk their opponents underwater and smack them; the judo event contains some "over-the-top" kicking and body-slam animations. Characters' eyes swell up in a "cartoony" manner when they are attacked during the competitions.

TOMENA SANNER

Platform: Wii

Rating: Everyone

Content descriptors: Comic Mischief, Mild Cartoon Violence

Rating summary: This is a side-scrolling action game in which players run through city streets and progress through levels by pressing a button at the correct time. Players can break-dance, jump over obstacles, and kick objects out of the way while collecting coins and heading toward the finish line. Players sometimes punch, kick, or slam into humans/animals, causing them to collapse or fly off the screen in an exaggerated manner. In one one level, a giraffe character emits a small, yellow cloud (i.e., flatulence); players occasionally jump over pink coils that resemble animal droppings (e.g., "Great doggy-doo reflexes!").

This is retail, but it's related, and I haven't heard anything about it:

Data East Arcade Classics

Platform: Wii

Rating: Teen

Content descriptors: Animated Blood, Mild Suggestive Themes, Mild Violence

Rating summary: This is a collection of classic arcade games covering several genres. Games include Bad Dudes vs. Dragon Ninja, Burger Time, Caveman Ninja, Street Slam, Secret Agent, and many others. Some games involve side-scrolling fighting action against dozens of enemy thugs, ninjas, and creatures. Characters occasionally use knives, guns, throwing stars, or grenades in the 2D-style combat. A few games depict brief splashes of blood when enemies get hit; one game depicts a shark that emits red blood when it gets harpooned. The suggestive material represents the strongest pertinent content in the game: A puzzle game called Magical Drop III depicts female characters wearing provocative outfits that expose underwear and deep cleavage. When players score points or make successful combos, the background figures cheer or move in ways that cause their breasts to jiggle.

That Tomenasanner game somehow connects with me. It's a stupid QTE fest from what i can see, but I love the presentation and especially the music.

It's so delightfully random. (Needs a guy in a Weenie suit, too, but eh, can't have everything I guess.)

Reminds me of Muscle March, in a way. I'm a sucker for stuff like that.

Well, it is already listed in the OP, but I don't think people noticed that much.

TOMENA SANNER

Data East Arcade Classics
Crash 'N The Boyz and a Data East collection? I will be looking forward to those. Tomena Sanner seems interesting too.
