Mario Kart 8 sold 2.82 million in its first month on sale.

Bloomberg:“What’s important for Nintendo in the near future is how they promote their new figurine business,” Yusuke Tsunoda, an analyst at Tokai Tokyo Securities Co., said before the earnings announcement. “It’s difficult for Nintendo to grow without as many new titles as they announced last year.”

Their figurine business is going to help achieve the company's desired operating income - it will most likely not make it, but alot is riding on the amiibo launch.

Digital sales down from ¥5.7 billion a year ago to ¥5.0 billion in the last quarter, a decline of 12%. Not the right direction compared to just about every other major company with a digital segment.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
3DS revision will be announced 2 weeks from now, the platform needs it and a official price drop for the XL.

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???
Q1 Opeating Loss 94 million
Q1 Net Loss 98 million

Nintendo booked a 50 million currency exchange loss as well.

3DS numbers went down considerably. Wii U is in a stronger position compared to last year, but last year was pretty dismal.

3DS didn't have much major releases; I expect some spikes during the last quarter of the year with Smash and Pokémon.

Mario Kart 8 is a fucking beast; deserved.

So is Nintendo going to hit their Forecasts for each system? Doesn't seem like it, unless Holidays are HUGE.

MK8 numbers are amazing. A 42% attach rate this early is incredible.

I'm not expecting a revision.
You think they will ride out the 18-24 months from now to the 4DS with their current lineup? It's been two years since the XL, they will kill the basic 3DS and introduce a more portable and streamlined basic model for 129-149€,already including NFC.

so the bad news is that the 3ds is doing about half of what it was doing a year ago and it's in a very real decline.

the really bad news is that they're already in the hole $100m when they've forecast $200m as a profit for the year.

the really really bad news is that despite being up about 200%, wii u hardware sales and software sales are pitifully low (mario kart 8 makes up for 64% of all wii u software sales in this period), but we already knew that.

and the worst news of all is that nintendo didn't have a press conference at e3 this year, which is probably why the company is in such a sorry state.

You would think the people that didn't buy a 3DS or 2DS when X&Y came out wouldn't buy one for a remake.

Well the Mario Kart 8 bump was pretty backloaded. Who knows what the latter half of the year is going to look like.

Wii U seems realistic, but will heavily depend on how well sales maintain in North America thanks to MK8 and the impact Smash has on the system worldwide.

Does anyone here feel like extrapolating EU/Rest of World sales for Wii U hardware and MK8, as we have NPD and Famitsu numbers?

I'd do it myself but I'm on my phone and lazy

Both numbers are pretty awful but in some ways i feel like the 3DS one is worse. I hope nintendo is well on their way with working on their next handheld.

That foreign exchange losses bit them hard.

But wow at those MK8 numbers. almost 3 million in one month. Well deserved.

It would line up with the 2DS announcement, but I wouldn't put money on it.
I think the reason they haven't introduced the 2DS to Japan yet is because their is a new basic model coming anyway. 2DS was a quick solution for Western markets to have a cheap way to play Pokémon. But I think now is the time for a DSi like revision.

regarding the 3ds, it's becoming really obvious to me that the system may only scratch at 60m. it's not going to hit 20m in the us without some major price drops, and 2015 will probably be its last full year on the market before it's replaced. that's a tremendous tumble from even gba's final levels of sales.

i wonder how close xbox one and wii u shipments were for this quarter.

Nintendo also booked a 15 million restructuring loss

In addition to their 50 million currency exchange losses

They launched the cheap 2DS and that didn't boost hardware sales so why would a new revision do that if the 2DS didn't? If Nintendo launches a 3DSi with beefier specs that games from this year and the next 2 years can use I would gladly upgrade. Otherwise it's already a lost cause.

Either they release a 3DSi this year or their next gen portable next year

I can see a price drop, but not a new model unless there was something they could add to make a difference in sales.

That's >40% attach rate. That's incredible.

Is it? Doesn't that show that it's selling mostly to people who already own the system and isn't attracting new users? If the same holds true for Smash, that still puts the Wii U in a precarious position.
