News:
Combined with steadily-growing sales of titles released during previous fiscal
years and titles released by other software publishers, the total number of million-seller titles during this fiscal year recorded 23.

Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition
and Super Nintendo Entertainment System: Super NES Classic Edition recorded total sales of 5.95 million units.

Turning to our digital business for dedicated video game platforms, sales of download versions of packaged software and download-
only software for Nintendo Switch showed especially good growth, bringing digital sales to 118.8 billion yen (95.4% increase on a
year-on-year basis).

numbers are really great.

Although, I thought they were doing better on hardware. It's on par with ps4 right now, but next year new gen will arrive and it will complicate things by a lot.

The numbers really are great. The software attach rate is insane for the Switch right now, and Nintendo just surpassed 8 million YTD for Switch in Japan. In another couple of weeks and they should have passed PS4 YTD.

So they missed the updated forecast by a finger.

The new forecast is way more sensate I believe they could even do better like around 18.5m to 19m this year.

Ouch they missed even the revised forecast.
20m truly was a pipe dream. They went from expecting something a bit better than Wii U during the first year to crazy high expectations. It seems like they're just not really good at forecasting their own success LOL.
Btw this year if they introduce new hardware models and cut the entry price, Switch should do really well and 18m seems a realistic figure to me.
With PS4 and Xbox One declining this is the best chance Switch has to shine, it could really well be its peak year before next gen consoles from Sony and Microsoft take sales and mindshare.

Playstation is the ONLY gaming brand with WW appeal. look how Switch sales is concentrated in two regions USA/JP.
Playstations usually sell around 35-40% in these two markets and get the remaining from the rest of the world.

good numbers for the Switch but way below expectations.

I am not convinced the new consoles from Sony or Microsoft will make that much of a difference to the Switch as it's catering to a different demographic.

That's a good point.

IMHO Switch is kind of second option cause it is the only one with portability. The biggest games from 3rd parties aren't coming cause of limitations of hardware. So, it just placed right in the market cause it has nintendo games and it is a viable second option for every other console/pc system.

But I think we can't ignore the life cycle of the consoles in the market, they are clearly running out of gas. So, people focus on what is "new" at the moment. Switch is this option right now. Maybe, 2019 will be its peak year in sales, maybe its next year, even with the the next playstation and xbox.

Anyway, with new hardwares in the market, Switch will not be the novelty anymore, it won't be alone anymore and for the mass market a new rush for next gen always come around. We will probably need to see what Nintendo plans to do too.
