Challengers Wanted for Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS Tournament at San Diego Comic-Con REDMOND, Wash. —

Nintendo will be hosting its first-ever tournament for the Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS game at San Diego Comic-Con on July 25. Fans are invited to come to the Nintendo Gaming Lounge at the Marriott Marquis & Marina located at 333 W. Harbor Drive (adjacent to the San Diego Convention Center) for a chance to participate.

Starting at noon, there will be a preliminary round in which groups of four competitors battle it out, with the winner advancing. During the finals, players will duke it out one-on-one to determine the top smasher. Tournament slots are limited, and fans will be able to sign up the day of the event on a first-come, first-served basis.

For fans not able to attend San Diego Comic-Con, tournament action will be streamed live on Nintendo’s Twitch channel at http://www.twitch.tv/Nintendo.

Additional Nintendo Gaming Lounge activities will be announced in the future. Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS launches on Oct. 3. Super Smash Bros. for Wii U launches this holiday season.

I doubt there'll be a character reveal on that day... unless Sakurai himself is going, which I doubt.

This looks more like the tournaments at the Japan Expo than something like the Invitational. Then again, we'll see if Sakurai hypes this or not.

I'm fully planning to buy the 3DS edition, but I am a bit worried about how the game will scale onto the screen. It will be nice to see a bunch of high level matches.

Don't know how high level the matches will turn out to be with open qualification, but I think we're bound to get at least some high-level Smashers in the tournament

I don't think anything has to, I'm just glad to see Nintendo promoting the game this way now.

Now, about that moment at the invitational, it was a perfect sequence of events lol. Like, it wouldn't have been nearly as hype if anyone else got that Smash Ball. The best part was when they thought it was a whiff, and you hear Prog and the crowds short moment of disappointment. Until KDJ didn't realize it would explode into a black hole, so awesome. What is he gonna scream if Rosalina & Luma get? "ROSALINA & LUMA," right off that bat it sounds dumb, don't bother with Mario (maybe something with Super Mario can work- his Final Smash is just lame though), and fuck Fox and his Landmaster. Super Fighting Robot is one of the GOAT Smash moments.
