Whatever Nintendo has planned for the General Direct must be really hype if they're getting Smash out of the way for it. I mean, usually they begin and/or end on Smash bros because it's the most hype announcement they have, so what are they going end on this time?

I just love the whole Nintendo rumours/leaks scene, Someone makes a vague rumour list and - even when almost everything there was wrong - dozens of websites and youtubers start to report it as "credible sources".
Anyway, it seems inevitable that we are going to play a Pikmin port (and maybe a Mario 3d world one) in the near future
Ha. The only inevitable thing here is that within 10 seconds of the direct ending everyone finally gets to transition into moaning about how disappointing the direct was.

The thing about Nintendo rumors is that they tend to be true eventually because the company is well known for remakes, remasters and re-releases and any successful Nintendo IP will always get more sequels and spin-offs.

Given the number of Wii U games that got Switch releases so far basically any Wii U exclusive coming to Switch is a convincing prediction.
Any popular GC or Wii game is a good shout for a remastered version.

To some extent the company is predictable.
Their top level IPs will ALWAYS have a sequel.
You'd have to think that behind the scenes Nintendo never lets a major IP go untouched for very long.

Probably the next installment of Zelda and Mario games went immediately into the planning stages once the recent ones wrapped up development.
Mario Kart 9 has to come along eventually and is probably well underway as we speak.

Then we can argue over whether it was the best direct ever or the worst direct ever. :)

This drove me NUTS from my time on reset era. and from the general Nintendo fan base.... we hype directs up for weeks and then as soon as the direct is over WTF WAS THAT?!?!??! *Brandishes Pitchfork*

yes, same here.....I remember being excited specially after September's Direct (divinity original sin 2 shadow drop and deadly premonition 2 announced, you can't beat that) and everybody at era was moaning.

Always made me chuckle because it's literally just a video to announce which games are coming up soon.
People imagining things like Nintendo are going to say "Here is the trailer for Bayonetta 3 and the game is releasing right now!"

Then you'll get the usual "I only bought a Switch for Metroid Prime 4 so I guess my Switch will just keep on gathering dust".

If you know enough to get hyped and tune in live for these Directs then you know Nintendo well enough to keep your expectations in check.

SKEPTIC HATS AT THE READY

Based on the above, I think it's not unrealistic to expect an Odyssey 2 reveal in an upcoming direct for a holiday 2020 release, with more info at E3. That game has such a strong foundation, all they need to do is pull a Galaxy 2 and just make a bunch of new levels within the same framework. They have Animal Crossing to keep everyone busy for this half of the year, but nothing too big scheduled so far for the back end.

I'd also then wager BotW for Holiday 2021, since like Odyssey, they'll be using the same framework to build on and far less development time will be needed. This one's actually backed up by the teaser and the direct mention to a "BotW sequel". I'm not sure you'll actually see anything more than another teaser at this E3 though.

Metroid was scrapped and restarted so I'd be quite shocked if that thing came out any earlier than Spring 2022. Because Retro are busy with that, I doubt we'll see new DK any time soon, which is a shame.

I didn't include Kirby because they shit out Kirby games every year, and I didn't include F-Zero because it's been 16 years now. RIP
Nice! I was looking for something like this.

I am hoping for Summer 2020 having a Zelda spin off or remaster and an Odyssey 2 in holiday 2020.
Or Summer 2020 having Mario remasters and BotW2 in holiday 2020.

Mario Kart seems so huge for Nintendo that I don't know if they will hold off until MK8 is completely milked and can sell no more or if they are going to drop MK9 as their big holiday game in the next couple of years.

I think we're likely to see 3D World remastered this year, alongside Pikmin 3.

MK8 still sells a ridiculous amount, no need for them to drop 9 any time soon.

Are we predicting stuff for this from NIntendo. OK I'll bite:

1: Pikmin 3 remaster sometime in the Summer
2: Mario + Rabbids Kingdom battle released in October
3: Breath of the Wild in November
4: Bayonetta 3 in September
5: Another Quirky online title for their online subscription. Perhaps Dr Mario 99 or something radically different.
6: Odyssey 2 or a brand new mario game towards the end of the year as well.
7: Metroid Prime Trilogy in April
8: Xenoblade in May as discussed
9: New Switch model out during the Summer. It will be a more CPU intensive model and will have some third party game released for it. I'm thinking they blow the load with Cyberpunk 2070. Fuck it do it!

Ok, burn the world, here's my plan for 2020, and I dare Nintendo to ruin it:

February: Hatsune Miku Mega Mix
April: Xenoblade Chronicles DE
June: Switch Pro
September: New Monolith Soft ip
December: BotW2

That's what I expect from 2020.

Bonus-games:

- Fatal Frame 6
- Xenoblade Warriors
- Monster Hunter 5

Your turn, Nintendo. I'm waiting ...

Haha.

I predict:

Dante for Smash.
MPT available right now plus surprise Metroid Prime 4 trailer.
Monolithsoft actually has TWO new games and one of them is an F-Zero open world racing game.
Ocarina of Time and Majoras Mask remake double pack out tomorrow.
Bayonetta reaches out of the screen and offers handies to the entire audience.
Pokemon Sword and Shield refunds for everyone.
XBox Game Pass on Switch.
Mario Odyssey 2 coming holidays 2020.
Netflix on Switch tonight with a documentary about the making of Smash.
One last thing... Smash fighters pass 2 with Master Chief, Doomguy, Waluigi, Geno aaaaaaaannnnnd Goku coming in 2020.

Anything less will be a major disappointment.

Nintendo: "There is a 40 minute Labo 2 Direct coming next Thursday."

I am still putting my eggs into the basket that the Halo for switch rumors are true.
If that happens then I would say Microsoft have gone completely insane.
Unless Halo Infinite is so unbelievably good and they are 99.99% certain it will be one of the greatest launch titles ever I can't see them doing it.
Otherwise it's like taking away one of the reasons to own an XBox.

On the other hand, if Infinite is that good then it would be weird for Nintendo to allow Microsoft to use the platform as basically an advert for the upcoming XBox.
Unless they have some kind of partnership coming up to try and break Sony's dominance.

Interesting list there, i'm also a believer for Odyssey 2 but listening to the MinnMax podcast, they made a good point on how the direct sequel to a 3D Mario game happened in only one instance with Galaxy and Galaxy 2.

So i think the next 3D Mario game will be an evolution of Odyssey but not a direct sequel.

Also if one of the rumored Wii U ports for 2020 is Super Mario 3D World, then i don't see Nintendo releasing 2 3D Mario games in the same year on the same platform.

Anyway there's another series that people often forget because of Prime 4, and that's 2D Metroid.
This is my case for a new 2D Metroid possibly released in 2020, and i'll do it presenting a list of facts:

No. 1 - Back in 2015 MercurySteam pitched to Nintendo a new entry in the Metroid series for both Wii U and 3DS.

This was reported by LiamRobertson on Nintendo Life , as one of the devs tried to leak the game, other evidences were found later. The pitch was rumored to be rejected by Nintendo.

In 2016 MercurySteam co-founder dismissed the rumors calling them bullshit, but then at E3 2017 Nintendo revealed Metroid Samus Returns for the 3DS which was indeed developed by the spanish studio with the guidance of the legendary Yoshio Sakamoto.

Metroid Samus Returns was overall a success and Sakamoto was very happy about how development went with MercurySteam.

That means MercurySteam still has a working prototype of an HD Metroid game for Wii U which could be reworked and ported to Switch.

No. 2 - MercurySteam hasn't announced or released a video game since 2017.

They released both Metroid Samus Returns and Spacelords in September of 2017, since then only updates for their online games and not much else. The time is right for a new entry.

No. 3 - Metroid Samus Returns teased a possible premise for a new 2D Metroid game.

No. 4 - Metroid Prime 4 development has been scrapped and restarted last year.

Meaning we won't see it for a while, Nintendo may need some form of Metroid release to fill the gap in the meantime whether is a new 2D entry or Metroid Prime Trilogy we don't know.

Now my only argument against it is that on September of last year, Sakamoto announced that he has been working with Mages on the remake of Famicom Detective Club, a japanese only release.

That said it's possible he has been working on both, after all he was Producer of Samus Returns not Director.

Interesting, thanks for the info.

I completely forgot about MercurySteam, I suppose it is around a good time for them to release a new game, but it would be a little odd that Nintendo is putting so much effort and focus on Metroid after the 6 year break post Metroid: Other M. Getting a third Metroid game (with a possible forth being the Trilogy) in the span of 5 years would suggest Nintendo has quite a bit of confidence in the series which I don't think they have.

We'll see I guess, but I'd be really surprised if Nintendo brought out another new Metroid before Metroid Prime 4

I really wish this wasn't the case, too. I wish that we were generally more positive about whatever is announced/released rather than sharp and critical of everything. I don't want some place that is moderated/regulated to the point of having to be constantly positive. I just wish that, as a whole, our group was more hopeful and enthusiastic

It's the worst thing about the present age. People are so smart, and there's no excuse (except ignorance) for not being smart.

I swear, if they end up announcing a remaster of the God awful piece of garbage that is Xenoblade Chronicles X instead of a new game, I'll never care about them as a studio ever again.

But I'm definitely dying to see what they do next.
I would think there's basically no need for them to be wasted on remakes of their past games. I would hope all these ports are like good training for fledgling studios that want to jump on board making Nintendo games.

Of course, I'm usually flat wrong about stuff like this, and Nintendo somehow manages to spend their time bringing ports over.

Ok, we need a special kind of insult for you. Just ... wtf ... 🙄🤦‍♀️
Pray tell.

I just found the game to be a waste of resources on Nintendo's part. At least when you compare it to its predecessor.

Almost everything about the game was a massive step down. The music, the characters, the story, and even the world didn't feel as interesting to me.

The only thing edge I'd give it over Xenoblade Chronicles is maybe the combat, but even then sometimes I find myself preferring the original.

I got the game for $15 at launch due to a glitch from Amazon.ca, and I still felt like I overpaid for an absolute disappointment.

The only positive to come out of XBX, is that it made me appreciate the original more than I initially had.

Sakamoto was a big fan of Other M, the problem is it didn't sell a lot, and even critical response was mixed, so in Nintendo's eyes that was maybe a red flag (much like Star Fox, Miyamoto was overseeing Zero, there was a lot of push from Nintendo but it didn't work so it will be a while before we'll see a new entry).

Samus Returns against all odds did fairly well, plus the genre has seen a bit of a resurgence in recent years thanks to the indies.

I swear, if they end up announcing a remaster of the God awful piece of garbage that is Xenoblade Chronicles X instead of a new game, I'll never care about them as a studio ever again.

But I'm definitely dying to see what they do next.
Xenoblade Chronicles X from a technical standpoint is still perhaps the most impressive game from Monolithsoft, the fact that it is an open world so huge and it runs on the Wii U.

Though with the Definitive Edition of the first game coming this year i'm not expecting an X port now, but i'd be cool to see it before the end of this gen, that game should deserve a second chance outside the Wii U.

On what they are working next last interview Takahashi did with Harada set the tone, in the sense that there are a lot of fun things they'd like to do and they sent more than a dozen of pitches to Nintendo and they were all rejected except Xenoblade. Nintendo is very conservative, they want to see the results first.

So i'm expecting Xenoblade Chronicles 3 possibly out in 2021, while the other game is a bit of a mystery since it is a new thing and the veteran devs are not even involved, so possibly smaller scale.

I loved X's focus on exploration and wide-open world. It was different from the first game, which was straight magic, but it had a charm all its own. It really did feel like a scifi take on the core concept. XBC2 on the other hand felt like a lesser 1, and the cutscenes... the endless, painful cutscenes.

Still, even the worst game in the series (whichever one that may be) is better than most other JRPGs coming out today, so why not remaster it? It's not like it's a major resource drain. Mostly though, I'm looking forward to seeing what's next from them. I love their concept art.

Good to see some intelligent people at last. It always frustrates me when people like one but shit on another Xenoblade-game. All 3 are masterpieces, whichever like best is mere detail.

Regarding monolith's new ip, I posted this a while back on gamefaqs and I stand by it:

Why Monolith's new ip *must* release THIS year

Next year it's time for Xenoblade 3. X3 will have been in development for about 4 years by then, a little less if you add Torna, although that DLC likely didn't take up much ressources.

Meanwhile, the new ip would have been in development for at least 3,5 years, too, if it released in the latter half of 2020 - MS actually started hiring for it in August 2017, even before the release of Xenoblade 2.

Now, I've seen people argue "MS is already releasing Xenoblade DE this year, there's not gonna be another game". But you know what makes no sense to me? That somehow "Remaster + new ip" is less likely than "new ip + Xenoblade 3" for one year!

And no, it's very unlikely that either new game would release in 2022. A Xenoblade-game isn't given 5 years of development, nor does it need that. It'd also be bad to keep the franchise resting for so long now that XB2 finally was such a success. But neither would Nintendo spend 5+ years on a new, unproven ip!

Considering all of the above, while there's never a guarantee for anything, people should be more open towards the possibility of the new ip releasing this year after all.

There's ofc the off-chance that the new ip is 2021 and we get Xenoblade 3 *this* year. But that would really surprise me as i expected the new ip to release first. Still ... wow, Xenoblade 3 this year would be awesome, too .

Someone isn't intelligent because they disagree with your assessment on a game? Do you realize how utterly stupid that sounds?

I get that your whole shtick on here is to be as obnoxious as possible, but at the very least respect the opinions of others. Step off your pedestal, because you're nowhere near as high and mighty or untouchable as you like to think you are.

We have to see how much extra work there is in Xenoblade DE besides the new faces, some redone textures, i'm expecting possibly a new UI and some story that ties into the cut area of the original game. I can honestly see both ways: i'm not surprised if Xenoblade DE isn't their only game this year but they've released a lot of games in the past 4-5 years so i can also see them taking more time.

I don't necessarily agree that Torna didn't take much resources as DLC, since that game is technically a standalone release also, it has its own story, a completely different battle system, cutscenes, a new titan, new music,... it's basically a different game that shares a lot of assets with Xenoblade Chronicles 2.

On the "new IP" for me it's hard to predict anything since this is a game we haven't seen anything yet besides a couple of artworks, and it's important to note that this is a side project, all the veteran developers from MS are not involved. No Kojima, Takahashi, Saga, or even Yasunori Mitsuda possibly.

So the gameplay and the tone of the game could be completely different from what we're used to see in their previous games.

And none of this should take more staff than the entirety of Xenoblade 2.

It was already done as a chapter within the main game, but Takahashi thought it's become to lengthy and didn't want to interrupt the pacing that much, because it was the finale of the story. Most work was probably done before they made it DLC. If you played Torna, you know: it's one reused area, a couple small to medium size areas with just enemies, and only one bigger town (+ 2 small settlements). People like to make a bigger deal of Torna than it was.

Where did you get that nobody of the veterans at MS is working on it? Would like to see a source.

So the gameplay and the tone of the game could be completely different from what we're used to see in their previous games.
I fully expect it to be 'Xenoblade X meets Vision of Escaflowne'.

That was maybe an overstatement, the website doesn't say a thing about it, so maybe Takahashi is overseeing the project.

Basically they have 3 recuitment pages.

1. From the 1st production team, there is a lengthy message (the translation is in the spoiler) from Takahashi himself where he basically says that this is the team of the "selected few", the ones who have worked at Monolithsoft on Monolith games for all these years, and that's team who is likely working on the next Xenoblade installment.

2. This is the 2nd production team, we know they are working on the next Zelda entry. They started mass recruitment since March of last year.

3. It's in "Special" and it doesn't mention if this is production team 1 or 2 or maybe 3, it just says they are working on this Action RPG with the jobs listing below

Worth noting that in the past Monolith has worked on projects then later just merged into the Xenoblade games we know, it could be the same in this case too but i'm not sure.

I wouldn't be surprised if one of the two turns out to be Medieval Xenoblade. (either as a mainline entry or a spin-off)

That's what I thought.

MS has 4 teams currently:

- Xenoblade 3-team
- new medieval ip-team
- BotW2 support-team
- asset creation-team

It's most likely that the botw2 support-team doesn't occupy any ofthe heads of MS, afterall they mostly need their map designers there.

It makes more sense that Koh Kojima (the X-guy afaik) is working on the new medieval ip, because Tetsuya is definitely doing Xenoblade 3 himself, plus overseeing the DE-remaster.

I wouldn't be surprised if one of the two turns out to be Medieval Xenoblade. (either as a mainline entry or a spin-off)
I've always been saying this since that interview: Tetsuya can make any game he wants to, Nintendo just demands that it carries the Xeno moniker. Hence why I called my speculation website 'XenoKnights' 💁

It'll be Dante, but it'll be Viewtified Dante. We're actually getting Viewtiful Joe and in place of palettte swaps we'll get Viewtiful character swaps and Dante will be one of them.

GTA Collection (GTA 1-3 + Expansions)

GTA 4

GTA V

Would print money.
im really surprised this hasn’t happened yet honestly. Portable GTA V would sell so well. I know there we’re rumors before about cart size, but after seeing Witcher 3 I don’t buy it. Leaving money on the table.

I didn’t know 3 sold well enough for them to bring 4 over to the switch. Cool, the more support the better. I know I heard 3 had issues but they fixed them relatively quickly.

I hope the smash character release date is tomorrow. Very disappointing smash pass release schedule. I remember the fine print saying that a fighters had to be release by March 2020 but damn that information drop.

Also, if we are dreaming/speculating ... I need info on bayo 3, it was announced what? 3 years ago? Too soon Nintendo/p*

NeoGAF tech force!

So I'm going all in the the announcement of the Switch Pro.

If the actual system is going into production shortly(Digitimes stated quarter 1 this year) wouldn't developers
need development systems by now or could they just be using their current dev systems? Thanks!
