That's just fucking brilliant :messenger_grinning:

Hope those little karts will hold up to jumping down flights of stairs!

This is so cool and innovative! Kudos for Nintendo for thinking outside the box, though I'm not sure it will work like it is intended to do :messenger_grinning_sweat:

The idea is fun but as always, we have to keep our expectations in check as this is Nintendo after all.

Range can be short, lag enormous etc... Wait & See.

Guess how many grown up men will buy this game "for their kids".
Plenty. Hahaha.

Look, if folks enjoy these things, they should just embrace the fact that Nintendo are always going to lean toward a younger audience. I definitely have enjoyed Nintendo's "kiddie" games this gen. Fun is fun. :)

I think you could make some pretty interesting tracks in a small space considering you can loop over other bits of track.

WTF IS THIS!!! I feel like one of my childhood dreams just became real. I have been clamoring for something like this ever since the eye toy demo on the PS3. If anybody remembers, the camera would take a look at the room and place cars that interacted with real life objects on the screen.

for the people that are on about, oh but you cant look at the kart while driving, the big point is you can drive from the tiny perspective of the kart. All of a sudden it;s like mario kart mixed with the perspective of chibi robo.

Kids are gonna have a blast building courses and been able to see what they are like from the karts perspective a bit like people have done with train sets and lego stuff and adding cameras on.

Looks at my Kysho Mini-Z RC car.... wish it had the AR feature too.
I am sure I could put a small camera and attach the screen to my RC controller to get that view.

It looks quite fun! - I may try it out for the fun of it.... wonder if Mario Kart software is included? I have one for Wii U, but not for Switch...
And that car looks adorable!

Every time i am reading posts like these I am wondering why there is such a demand for MK9
- The graphics would stay pretty much the same as in MK8
- The tracks, drivers and carts will the mostly recycled.
Sure, they will add some new stuff, but lets be honest, most wouldn't be new, so what do you hope to get?

I feel like MK9 would require a new, more powerful console to make sense.
This new idea for MK here is much more fitting for Switch, and pretty damn innovative.
MK8 is over six years old.

My personal opinion on MK8 is they need to let go of the fact it was a WiiU game and give it some friggen DLC, it would have plenty of legs if they made another 10-12 maps and sold them to us in a pack for like $29 or something.

Sure, but it was ported 3 years ago, and again, just because it is old doesnt mean a new version would be significantly different enough.
My opinion stands: as long as MK9 would just feature 95% of the same with the same level of graphics there is no real need; once a better console is out a new MK is a given however.

I don’t agree. You seem to be fixated on graphics. Who cares? MK Wii didn’t have significantly better graphics than Double Dash.

Why would a new Mario Kart be 95% the same? Just come up with new stuff. How about something different for single player for once? And naturally we need new tracks and character.

But you are probably right and it will only come with the next console. I am just a disgruntled Switch owner who has already played 90% of the Switch’s games on the Wii U :messenger_crying:

The point is that they haven't really come up with so much new stuff in recent entries. Sure there were small new things and additions. But we have been mostly driving the same charcters with the same carts on repeating tracks.
Now they introduced this very innovative new Mario Kart today, and thats what its all about. Compared to that a MK9 would once again end up featuring more of the same stuff, that looks and feels like MK8 bit with a different name.

Between Labo, the Lego stuff, and this, we can definitely say that Nintendo is interested in an intersection of toys, physicality, and traditional gaming. It's interesting how much of a trend it's becoming for them.

And this looks absolutely amazing fun, of course.

They really do do things differently to anyone else. That’s why I bought a Switch. Yes sometimes it can be annoying with their idiosyncrasies but it’s a package deal. Personally I fucking love it.

Nintendo lost me with Gamecube, then got me back with the Wii, lost me again with Switch but now they're again starting to do interesting things. I doubt I will ever get a Switch but I'm starting to be interested in their future again.

This is great stuff.

Meanwhile 20 million seller Mario Kart 8 Deluxe gets NOTHING.
Any other developer would have map packs and character passes up your ass. It's like they look at their biggest earning opportunities and try to avoid them.

$100 for a set? And you need a Switch for every player.

Sounds awfully expensive. And if you don’t have a big house this will end up in a box in your closet come February.

Expensive yeah, but this can be played outdoors too so I would imagine kids taking it outside as soon as the weather allows it.

For the starter set, which includes the stuff you need to lay out a track. It's possible they could sell other cars separately for less. It's very unclear to me right now, but the included items list doesn't mention the game itself -- I wonder if it's a free download.

I fully expect third parties to introduce their own add-ons for this. First up: sturdier replacements for those cardboard checkpoints (ugh).

It looks really cool, but you need decent space and I don't think this meant to give you full Mario Kart experience since I don't think you can drift or go very fast with these Karts.

Well I have to get this eventually. Looks absolutely brilliant.

I'd have no problem taking this shit outside too. I hope the cars can run on grass and sand lol.

There are going to be some absolutely brilliant videos hitting the internet when this comes out.

I wonder if the mushroom item literally unlocks a slightly faster speed on the motor of the RC car lol.

Does getting hit by an item lock out the motor?

Imagine setting up a course outside and inside. Could go outside a window or out a doggie door. Just have to build some ramps lol.

I wonder what the max distance limit is between track markers.

Since the whole game is recorded on a camera, I really hope they implement a way to record your races and upload easily. People are going to have some insane tracks with crazy lights and effects.

Yeah, this was impressive to me. I wonder if Nintendo is going to push this type of thing even more for their next console. It would be a great way to sell more toys and video games.

Looks a cross between Sphero and Anki Drive... both released to big hyoe and now collecting dust. Perhaps the Mario Kart name will add staying power

A surprisingly charming, fun, and completely novel idea that's underrated by those who couldn't get past their own ego to try it out? Cool, I'm completely on board.
sorry if im being just realistic,as cute as it shows in the video the real thing will be much less stellar, thar rc kart is cheap, they control like shit, and the video feed with the switch its not gonna be like the video, whats the size of your house ? this is just a novelty and its gonna get dust on two o tree months, try out? i have race on rc cars since i was 8,tell me more about how these things handle, specially the cheap ones...
