Nintendo NA eShop Holiday Sale Roundup

I see threads for sales on other platforms but didn't see one for Ninty.

Shamelessly copied from Nintendolife

Steamworld Dig for >$2 is a steal, y'all. Crimson Shroud is a must-buy and is $3, along with a few other games from that series. Swords and Soldiers 3D is pretty good for $2.

There's no Nintendo games, no Atlus, no Sega. Capcom is headlining this sale, most of of the rest is garbage shovelware. There's a few exceptions.

I don't think this is the *real* Christmas sale, just a wind-up. I'll update the thread if more games get added.

There's an EU sale as well. Not as good as this one, but million times better than the black Friday one

3DS:

SteamWorld Dig - $1.79 (normally $8.99)
SteamWorld Heist - $9.99 (normally $19.99)

Everyone buy those. So good.

I'll second Steamworld Heist, too. I grabbed it for $8 last week on PSN. Fantastic strategy game.

Steamworld Dig is just really chill, low stress stuff. Looks cool in 3D, too. The price is right.

I think I was arguing with someone here a few weeks ago about the amount of shovelware on the 3DS vs the Vita. Or really just eShop vs PSN.

All systems get their fair share of shovelware and junk... But, I mean, look at this shit. There is an epidemic of trash on this platform.

The Wii and the DS were like that, too. Worse, even.

And people say Nintendo doesn't have third party support...

How are the other Level-5 guild games? I just got Aeroporter, Attack of the Friday Monsters, and Weapon Shop de something. I already had Crimson Shroud and Liberation Maiden.

Freezeme is a very fun 3D Mario clone. Specifically Mario 64 but there are elements of Galaxy with gravity of planetoids and 3D's colored blocks.

I know, Heist is SO GOOD. It was my 3DS GOTY last year. Dig is okay, but Heist is one of the very best things in the eShop.

As always I always recommend buying any of the Ace Attorney series if you haven't. Spirit of Justice for 20 is a good value all around.

I liked Heist a lot more than Dig, but overall I agree 100%. $11/12 for these two is a steal and they offer more than enough fun gameplay.

At first Heist was boring me, but then the strategy component really kicks in and it becomes much more engaging.

MAJOR props for getting this done. I only did it partially in my original thread, but man was it tiring to type all that down and I just never got to the 3DS stuff, and even then, I only bothered with the decent-to-good stuff.

Thanks! :)

Lol, don't thank me, I literally just swiped the list from Nintendo Life. They're the real heroes.

What a terrible sale. Atlus is usually an expected feature of these, I was hoping for Apocalypse to go down. Oh eell

If not this weekend then come Thursday the expected publishers will have their holiday sales. I'm certain of it.

I, too, am hoping for Apocalypse. And Fantasy Life.

It's one of the best in the serie. On par with Trials and Tribulations.

DLC is crap tho.

Doesn't quite answer my question, but ok.

How bad is the DLC? Can't be that bad is it? Because I had doubts about Dual Destinies DLC case, and that turns out to be amazing.

Thought you were asking about opinions on the game.
The DLC is really bad honestly, I agree that the one from Dual Destinies was fine but this one is really only about bringing back Larry But, so unless you're a big fan on him I wouldn't recommend the DLC case. The investigations phases especially were a pain in the ass.

So much junkware in the 3DS shop. I hate browsing the 3DS eshop for this reason.

What makes it really bad is the eShop itself. Navigation is terrible, especially on 3DS. It's really slow, it takes way to many steps to do anything and you have to scroll through content one tile at a time on a single, short row and then go to the next page and everything just takes forever. So much garabge to wade through, it's really bad.

I wonder how many potential impulse sales are lost from people exiting the shop in frustration?

Any hidden gems among the cheap Wii U games, aside from the ones already mentioned?

Runbow, Dungeons and Dragons, Art of Balance.

You might be interested in Blek, it's neat and very unique puzzle game ported from mobile.

A lot of people like Race the Sun, it's just a runner though.

I've been wanting harvest December and spirit of justice for awhile now so I can't complain about this sale.

Thanks. Runbow looks interesting. Any advantage to playing Blek on Wii U rather than iPad?

I don't see it mentioned here much but Pirate Pop Plus is a gem. Like an 8-bit Pang on steriods and totally charming in every way. And it's crossbuy I believe.

I usually don't shit on Nintendo sales but this is ridiculous and unacceptable. No fucking Nintendo first party software on sale at all??? The fucks the point then. Waste of a sale. They really filled it with the same bullshit Capcom games that go on sale literally every 3 months. Ugh ffs Nintendo.

Should I go with Monster Hunter or Phoenix Wright Trilogy? I can only afford one. I played like only 5 minutes of a Monster Hunter game on my PSP before my system broke. I never played a Phoenix Wright game before. Also if I do decide to go with Monster Hunter which one should I get?

Wii U last Christmas and not a single Nintendo game on sale. Good job building momentum.

Thank you Capcom for showing us how a sale is supposed to be done.

From the WiiU list I recommend the following:

Resident Evil
Monster Hunter 3
Darksiders 2
Runbow
Steamworld Dig/Heist
Book of Unwritten Tales
Ducktales
Dungeons and Dragons
Human Resource Machine (learn 2 code, the game)
Little Inferno
Mr Pumpkin (silly little Chinese point-and-click)
Gravity Badgers (orbit puzzler, but worth $1)
Electronic Super Joy
Inside My Radio (fantastic rhythm platformer)
Asdivine Hearts

Waiting (Im)patiently for Devil Survivor 2 and SMT4 Apocalypse to go on sale

Both were on pretty nice sale on Amazon. SMT4 A was $30. Not sure about DS2 since I've had it since launch though but I think it was $20ish.

DS2 is $25
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00QRDQ9HM/?tag=neogaf0e-20
SMT IV Apocalypse is sold out though. That $30 worked.

Edit: Separately, BestBuy had eshop cards at 15% off but it was physical cards, not digital.

Bought Runbow.

But what I really need is another 33% off Shovel Knight on 3DS so I can finally buy it, and a discount on Rhythm Heaven Megamix. Dunno if I'm ever getting those :(

The first three Phoenix Wright games collected into one is a good value, with the series being among the best visual novels to get into (AA2 being the weakest of the original trilogy, but has a great final case), but by nature of the mystery angle associated with the Ace Attorney series, the replay value on something like Monster Hunter is better. If Monster Hunter, I would say 3U or 4U. Both are good introductions to the series, underwater mechanics being unique to 3U, while increased verticality and traversal were new to 4U. I prefer the art direction in 3U myself, though.

I'd hold off on Generations (released in Japan as X), since Capcom are making an updated version of that (XX) and we don't know if it might come to the West.

If you are starting out, here's what you should be spending all of your money on. Well, I like all of these.

Monster Hunter Generations - $19.99 (normally $39.99)
Resident Evil Revelations - $4.99 (normally $19.99)
Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition - $4.99 (normally $19.99)
