Nintendo Q3 FY 2025 earnings: Switch 2 17.37M, Switch 155.37M, and more

Depends on how they want to push the system this year. If they have more special editions up their sleeves it could happen this year. I still personally think there's one more revision in them.
The Switch 2 seems so successful that I can see them putting it aside earlier. But at the same time, Nintendo said that they understand that some people still can't make the jump to the new gen so they want to support those who are still stuck with it. Let's remember that Nintendo wanted to keep the 3DS alive for more time, but the public moved to the Switch so fast that they had to kill it.

The next direct will probably tell us something about it.

Yea that's fine just saying people were expecting 40 million plus for it here was a prediction thread for it everyone expected 35-40 million for switch 1 version at 17 million is not massive sorry that i hurt your feelings son.

I'm not even going to bother asking who those "people" were because you're clearly schizophrenic, but I just want to point out that Wonder would be the best selling PS5 game ever lol.

2d mario is one Nintendo biggest gaming franchises and it didnt even out sell some Sony exlusives like god of war and spiderman 2018 which are above 20 million. Think about this Mario party and is outselling 2d Mario. 17 million for a 2d Mario is one of the lowest just check sales history

Guys, Subzero is a 8 month old account and in the past two weeks he only post in Nintendo threads to drop bad takes, intentionally ignore people's claims, and repeatedly shit post. Stop engaging with him.

His whole gaf account is an outlet for his weird throbbing hate boner for Nintendo.

3d big zelda wont be here till 2028 that will help sales. 3d Mario i doubt is gonna be massive looking at Mario galaxy remaster and donkey kong sales.
These seem like paper tigers. Let's look at it like Sony and Nintendo are playing a game of Texas Hold'em. In Sony's hand, they have The Last of Us, Uncharted...and Knack. Nintendo has Zelda, Mario, and Animal Crossing. A couple of solid river cards have already been thrown for both sides in Resident Evil: Requiem, and Pragmata. If the next card on the flop is GTA VI...then Sony should probably fold, but they won't. They'll announce the specs for their own hybrid device, launching in 2028.

Again, not going to get too specific about shit you're retarded about, like how Wonder came out in fucking 2023 so it hasn't been in the market for nearly as long as GOW or SM, just want to ask you again to stop spreading misinformation: Wonder is not "one of the lowest" selling 2D Mario games.

I never said its lowest selling 2d Mario games but if you look what franchises like zelda, and 3d mario for example did on switch its wasn't a massive success on those levels. I said it didn't light up the charts and when you look at Nintendo biggest sellers it didn't.

You are funny.

Are you gonna go in every thread complaining about me like im talking to about your mom or something? It's just video games grow some thicker skin.
Maybe you should stick to threads that interest you, rather than ones you care nothing about, other than shit on anything Nintendo. We are going to report your shit now. You've worn out your welcome.

Its gaming forum? What did i say that was offensive? 3d Mario was never a huge 20-30 million seller till mario Odyssey so i think its not gonna be massive system seller just a opinion and the other was 40- 60fps variable fps with out vrr is terrible and you're begging mods to ban me like im talking about your mom lmao. Weirdo

Not sure I remember too many console companies updating their sales figures after a console had been dead and off sale for so many years....

This is easy. 155m was a full year before PS2 production ended. So ironically the 155m was always the wrong number because it was missing an entire year of data. They have it in in the PS museum too. A PS2 slim plaque with the exact final number.

Stop being reasonable, I prefer the "Sony pulled the numbers from thin air" excuse.

It makes them mad. Lol

I don't think changing the narrative again to now comparing software sales is a good idea.

Then why not give the figure when production ended, plus the Sony fanboys always seem to have this whole argument around shipped vs sold, obviously when it suits their arguments. But this figure was units produced, so very vauge in terms of what the actual sold figure was. And the timing of the figures release so many years later is laughable. Clearly the Switch closing in on the original figure played a part.

Let's recap. Sony gave their last figure in early 2011, I think it was 153 million. Almost 2 years later the PS2 was finally discontinued but they didn't bother updating the sales. Then more than a decade later and only when the Switch was about to break their record Sony thinks that now we should know the final PS2 numbers? Nah you can't take seriously someone acting like that. 2013 was the time to say it. You didn't? Then you lost your chance.
Perhaps Nintendo should did into their archives and find out how many DS consoles they actually produced lol... Anybody with an ounce of sense know what Sony are doing with the produced PS2 number released many years later...

Not mad in the slightest. I find it very sad a company like Sony has to resort to such obviously sketchy tactics to keep their console on the top of the pile. The fact it's a number of produced consoles, then revealed many years later tells you everything you need to know. It's only the Sony fanboys that fail or more likely refuse to see this for what this clearly is.

Then again.... no wonder the fanboys are like this, when they are following a company who does this sort of thing in the first place lol..

While I agree with you, you need to remember this was 2013, where people were about to buy a PS4 and the PS3 was pretty cheap. So the "full year" of PS2 sales in 2013 wouldn't be that high. And they did a lot of creative accounting back then, disclosing production numbers first before switching to shipping numbers, and then gathering PS2 and PS3 sales to hide the bad PS3 sales early on. And production figure doesn't necesseraly means shipped units (as they certainly not shipped that last unit displayed in the museum).

But if Sony says 160 million, then it is. No need to discuss that.

More than 160,000,000 units sold worldwide since 2000
160,636,885 units poroduced

The fact you did not suspect this in the slightest makes me worry. But I am pretty sure you are well aware.
Dude, the Switch is literally 5 million units away — it's going to pass the PS2. At this point it's almost guaranteed.

And honestly, I'm not even interested in debating the "accuracy" of Sony's numbers. It's a pointless argument. We literally have a picture of the final manufactured PS2 unit. If people think it's that easy — or even that important — then sure, why doesn't Nintendo just claim they sold 200 million Switches while they're at it? Yay, problem solved.

SONY has always done this for its consoles at the end, so why would you think they would lie about it :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Does it hurt you that much that the PS2 sold 160 million units?
Their exact wording was over 160m manufactured. And that's true. And those consoles DID end up in players hands. But like I said, that doesn't pass the sniff test; they're folding console replacement hardware in with shipped/sold and that's obvious. And there's nothing wrong with that in my opinion.

Irregardless, it doesn't matter because Switch 1 will still pass the 160m mark so this back and forth is meaningless. Hell, for all we know Nintendo ALREADY has over 160m manufactured and/or waiting for assembly. We don't know, but Switch 2 only just came out and it takes years for Nintendo to pull the manufacturing plug during a console transition.

Good one. But doesn't have quite the same impact as explicitly saying they're not disclosing the sales data. I see WiiU on there which was more of a flop than Vita, whereas VB was an aside rather than a mainline console/handheld.
The Virtual Boy was a system in its own right, just like other Nintendo consoles. At least, that's how Nintendo saw it, but strangely enough, there are no sales figures for it on their website, just like Sony did with the Vita there is no difference between the two manufacturer.

As you can see for Nintendo the virtual boy is a "32-bit portable system" or "home 3-D video game system".

Dragging Virtual Boy into a sales obfuscation argument is literally the definition of grasping at straws to try to make a point. VB wasn't one of Nintendo's main handhelds or consoles which were still very active and highly supported when they introduced the Virtual Boy. The VB was just something completely separate and that's partially why it failed. It had no market. Nintendo already had a handheld and home console and the VB was just unnecessary.

Was it a failure? Yes. But including its failed sales numbers in their yearly financials makes no sense because the VB in and of itself doesn't represent anything Nintendo uses to correlate or compare sales data to. They never evolved on it and they never took it further.

No one gives a shit about Vita sales numbers because Sony left the handheld market so how many consoles it sold is a meaningless metric to disclose because it's no longer a number Sony needs to use to compare anything to. The real tell regarding Sony and Vita number disclosures is, if when they announce a new handheld, do they simply cite PSP and Portal numbers and pretend Vita didn't exist, or do they discuss Vita's numbers in correlation to how they see the new handheld doing?

VB was never in the same class as GB or N64 at the time. They did indeed throw a lot of weight behind it though. Maybe a solid third pillar.

That's your biased interpretation.

The reality is that Sony officially produced 160,63 million units PS2s and sold over 160 million, so it's not hard to understand that this is more than 160 but still less than 160,63.
There is no error; everything in their statement is consistent.

Just admit that it pisses you off that Sony is the first manufacturer to reach the 160 million mark and no other has done so before them.

Sales of the Switch have already fallen this year from 10.8 million to less than 4 million and will continue to decline in 2026 and 2027, So there's no guarantee that it will reach or exceed 160 million.
Wait and see.

I've never reflected on this. Pretty interesting that it's absent.
Honestly, I don't really care too much. Nintendo does what it wants and doesn't have to answer to anyone.
I just find it funny that some people criticise SONY for not wanting to disclose PS Vita sales figures (the reason is simple: commercial failure), when others do the same thing, such as Sega with the Nomad, Nintendo with the Virtual Boy, and Microsoft with the Xbox One and the Xbox Series.

Nintendo himself considers the virtual boy as a "32-bit portable system" or "home 3-D video game system" so please stop your damage control.

At least Sony has some form of mention of Vita on their page though. I can't find any mention of why VB would be absent.

I was thinking there'd at least be some note saying 'only system above 1M units are disclosed' or something.

Bro why do you say weird shit like this? No one gets "mad" about this stuff. It's just online banter and back and forth. Also, why would it make me mad? I've owned every PlayStation hardware ever made with exception to PSVR2 and PS5 Pro. Shit, I owned three PS2s.

Maybe you're.... projecting?!?

3DS ceased production in 2020, three years after Switch released. So it stands to reason Switch 1 will remain in production for at least two more years. Nintendo will have manufactured well over 160m by then. It's just obvious.

It's fucking 2026 and you're accusing people of damage controlling the fucking VB sales numbers of all things. That's some of the saddest shit I've read on this forum.

I don't care whether you had a PS2 or not, you're clearly implying that they lied, so why does the 160 million announced by Sony make you angry?

Because everything about this shit is suspect. If they said 160 million in 2013 no one would've had a problem with it. But saying it 12 years later and only when they were about to be passed by the Switch is questionable behavior to say the least.

Shawn Layden, several years after leaving Sony, confirmed that the final number of PS2's was 160,636,855.
He also confirmed the final PSP total of 82,523,607.

PS2 deniers are hilarious. Gaming's flat earthers.
