Well, outside having some parts of it on a production server! :D
True, true... but we would never have found it otherwise! ;)

And ha ha at this:

Please check that the page has not been deleted, moved, or made inaccessible.
Orly? :p

Pretty funny they put a button to redeem download code on a 404 page. Rather... random. I'd understand if it was an actual eShop page not loading properly or something...

wait, so this is already working?
Some people have managed to redeem codes, yes (in the US).

Maybe this means Europe will get TVii too!

I'm still bitter about the Tvii promise, damn you Nintendo
To give you an idea of how useful that feature is (living in the US) you just reminded me that this existed at all...

Really cool that the webstore is in the process of coming up, looks like they've got most of the back end figured out at this point.

Please look at the red light:

I think it's pretty clear Nintendo TVii is basically dead in Europe. Probably right holders / TV channels / ISP b*tching like hell, I remember even Microsoft had trouble with them.

So, it seems the download starts only when the device is in stand-by mode, not when it's fully turned on (like when you're playing something else), right? We need to try on 3DS too.

I wouldn't say only in standby just yet. My console was only on for a short while and I have no idea when or how frequently the download list pings the server to check for new additions. It's possible that had I left it on a little longer it would have eventually started.

But yeah, someone definitely has to check 3DS ASAP. If no one has after the Club Nintendo rewards are updated and something catches my eye, I'll do it, but I'm sure someone else can/will sooner.

That depends on the setting you chose. There's 1h, 24h, and more.

It checks for stuff to download right when you turn off your console, and then at the specified interval from that point (for example, if you chose "1h" then turn off your console at 2.30PM, it'll check for stuff at 3.30PM, 4.30PM, etc...).

Well, could try getting the icons for some games using the URL above and changing the ID?
I can't figure out the format. However, I did manage to get EU Wii U games working. The DDP website also uses a 14 character format for its icons so borrowing that and changing the US to GB we get the following:
https://eshop.nintendo.net/image/GB/en/title/20010000004464/icon
That is the NES remix icon. Looking at the numbers there there is no pattern except chronological release leads to higher numbers.

There is a difference. The ones at the eshop URL are png images whilst the ones are the DDP site are JPEG images.

A US NNP user could probably do the same there. It is not terribly helpful, I know but it does suggest that title ID was a possible red herring.

Sounds like a lazy way to test things. Honestly that's something I've probably done a couple times :)

Also TVii would have been out of my mind if that icon weren't stuck on the Wii U dashboard all that time. I've seen that coming from day one, this is typical stuff too hard to do in PAL land, with dozen of countries and languages and even more different TV channels.

That's cool, just wanted to see if it worked with other games, too (that'd be proof launch would be imminent).

Just to get a good perspective on the matter, how does this work when you buy games on SOE's site (where you can access the PS Store)? I mean, does the download starts istantly, right after you've completed the transition on the website, on your PS4? Wheter it's on or in stand-by mode?

If they actually let us purchase codes for any eShop game that would be amazing -- and the code redemption system seems to indicate that might be how it'll work.

I don't understand why you can't do that with PSN, for example.

On PSN: When you purchase a game from the webstore, you have the option to add the games to your download queue.
If you set your PS3/PS4 beforehand to check for updates at a certain time (say, 4 PM, while you're working), the console wakes up from standby at that time and automatically downloads/installs your games.
If you don't have your console on standby, your games will be downloaded the next time you login on the console.

Edit: If the PS3 is on during the scheduled update, the automatic updates/downloads will only begin when you turn off the console. Don't know about PS4.

PS4 has no schedule. It downloads instantly on stand-by once you add it to queue

Purchase codes where?

I think that's what you're interested in, right?

Yesssss, I'm stupid excited for this!! I think it's a safe bet it'll be announced at the investor meeting later this month, since that's where Iwata kept talking about it.

Guess I missed that news :p

But what I mean is a Web eShop where you can purchase codes for any game. Thought maybe the fact they have this redemption system in place is alluding to being able to buy codes online and then redeem them immediately.

Oh, but what would be the point? Gifting?

If yes, I believe Adelman (or was it Emily Rogers?) said you'd be able to gift game soon. Can't find the source, though, sorry.

Seriously , been waiting for this for ages. The holidays are coming up too, would be the perfect time .
Heh, I hope the servers will be able to hold this time around... last year, they were out for almost an entire week.

Last year Nintendo completely failed the timing of the 3DS eShop NNID update where all 3DS owners had to perform the sign-up/log-in process in order to access it. The web eShop hopefully doesn't involve a similar mandatory action from millions of 3DS owners at the same time so the stress should be lower… I suppose…

That's the point, there'll be a web based eshop, you'll just click on the game you want and it'll download to your system there won't be any codes (i assume) unless of course you are redeeming a code from elsewhere like people are doing now

Oh yeah, I remember about that. It was the main reason the servers were down for so long, besides the usual Christmas overload.

Oh, and Pokémon Bank in Japan too :p

Hopefully, they don't pull something similar this year, like a Zelda U demo on Christmas day or something :p

This year the online population will be much greater than last year, due to MK8 and Smash, though...

I was mistaken here. Both are JPEG, the quality is higher on the eshop ones for some reason. But there isn't much you can do to help a 72*72 3DS game icon though (the quality of these and zooming in to see artefacts made me notice this).

A curious thing is the 3DS ones include game updates (smash bros v 1.0.2 etc). I suppose the image files may be grabbed or shared from the actual eShop or the website plans to include such things too.

The origin program name metadata seems to mention Adobe Photoshop CS 5 (for 3DS) CS 6 (for Wii U) so probably a batch script using that.

Has anyone else tried a 3DS code yet? I just did and it redeemed fine, and it said it should download automatically once the system's in Sleep Mode in the after redemption page but in the email I got afterwards said I'd have to go to the eShop to manually start the download.

Redeeming code image.

After redemption image.

Post redemption e-mail.

I put the images as links because they're kinda big. It hasn't shown up on my system yet in any case, but I'll give it some more time before I go to the eShop manually. (I'm in the US if that isn't obvious.)

Wow.
Nice find, OP.

I'm probably more excited about the fact that you are out there investigating things like this than that the service is coming.
