Sorry if I was a bit harsh. I was put off by your reaction to this when we've already learned from this thread that sleep-mode downloads are a thing. If you would not just read this image but also the post directly below, you'd have your answer and could've saved yourself the unwarranted anger.

I'm admittedly a bit tired and completely missed the second half of the post. Hopefully pre-orders are next.

Is this US only? Just bought a Hyrule Warriors download code from GAME and I'm away from my house until tonight. Would be great to be able to auto download it to save time.

It's not even officially a thing yet.

I'm actually surprised it's not even live yet... or that they haven't even hidden the page or anything.

Hopefully, we get some news this week... investors meeting time!

Was thinking that too! This 30th, no? Should that be tomorrow night for us?

Ok, we now have confirmation the code redeeming page works from Japan (makes sense, they did launch automatic download from several retailers last week).

Looks like automatic downloads from retailers + that mysterious web eShop are linked, somehow...

Thanks StreetsAhead for the pic!

Quite impressed by how this worked out!

I got a Wii U yesterday, contacted Nintendo earlier to get my "old" account likned and the download history is there.

On my way to work I was going to get Smash, but lamented that I wanted it digitally, and I wanted to play when I got back at 1AM or so.

Then, remembered this thread, turned on standby functions, went to Gamestop, got a code for Smash, redeemed it on my phone using tbe link in the main post and hoped things worked out.

Well, just arrived and the game and update were downloaded and installed! Now to take a shower and play! :)

I bought Earthbound on the web eShop just now. Legit surprised I can remotely download the game to my Wii-U.

EDIT: Well it didn't work like I thought it would but the game got linked to my account without having to manually key in the download code.

So, looks like they updated https://eshop.nintendo.net/ on January 26, but there isn't anything ne.... ah. They finally removed that "Redeem" button. Also, page now get the NNID favicon now.

Funnily enough, the redeem page is still accessible if you add /redeem manually.... and live in NA/Japan. If you're in Europe, you get the same mess.... oh wait, they added a line asking you to login with a NNID if you got one. Bit weird, as it says that even if you're already logged in.

Sorry for the thread necro, but there's some minor new stuff... nothing big, which is why there's no new thread.

Looks like Nintendo made some modifications to https://eshop.nintendo.net/ last week (July 8th).

Nothing special on the page, but... good news! https://eshop.nintendo.net/redeem#/ finally works from a European NNID! Which means that if you have a download code, you can use the website instead of inputting it on your Wii U (great if you bought a code while away from home, but want to add it before coming back home).

There's also a page for Privacy (not new, though), which confirms the website is operated by Nintendo of Europe in Germany.

Sadly, still no sign of a proper web eShop.

Well, some progress after all. The fact we Europeans can now use the website to redeem codes is a decent development. Actually, IIRC, I think Nintendo.com's webstore appeared just a bit later than the first web eShop skeleton's appearance, and the possibility for US users to redeem codes, right?

Yup, and it was right after the redeem page became available in Japan that Amazon and some other retailers started remote downloads for download code purchases.

Don't think anyone could take a screenshot in English for the OP?

GAME already sells download codes for the UK so hopefully this leads to more retailers stocking them and some price competition between them.

Edit: In fact, the Nintendo Store also sells codes. Anyway, like you said, it wasn't long after the Japanese site went up that codes were available so it looks promising.

Ah yes, you're right... Didn't they stop that, though? I mean, for users outside the UK.

I still remember their pricing error a few months ago... sure was epic.

Sorry for bumping this one. But I just received an email from Nintendo with three Zelda demo codes and the first code actually links towards eshop.nintendo.net and allows you to add it onto your account automatically. I can't remember Nintendo ever using this site, so might be potential news?

Actually, I think you're right. Despite the site being online since months and months ago, and discovred by users already, this is the first time an official Nintendo email not only reference it, but actually uses as the main way to start the download of a code.

...And this happens a few days before the major general maintenance. What the hell is going on, this is too much *crying laughing*

I did not see this investigative news from last year, so I was getting giddy until I saw the timestamp. It is inevitable. I hope we see some more information on it soon, along with the new system account details.

There's no new account system. People completely misunderstood or misintepreted this. There'll be a replacement for Club Nintendo but NNIDs (= Nintendo's account system) are here to stay.

NNID's are here to stay, it's the Club Nintendo that's being replaced ;)

Edit: Beaten like Nintendo's online infrastructure.

It's so Nintendo that we're still waiting for this.
Slowly getting there.
Hopefully purchasing a game on the web and waking up your console retomely to download it is a standard feature for NX.
PS4 already does that ffs

edit: I know it already works for their consoles if they're in sleep mode. You know what I mean..

You can do it in NA. Japan at least has code redemption but I don't think they have a purchase option on the website like NA. They'll have that ready globally for NX. Wii U had sleep mode downloads/installs before any of the other consoles after all. They're not behind with everything, despite what some may say.

I apologise. By new account system I meant an overhaul of the current system. I understand that NNID's are here to stay. And even at that point, I was wrong to call it an overhaul, since the new additions will probably not be an overhaul.

Nothing is even happening with the account system. The loyalty program is a Club Nintendo replacement that you have to sign up for. It's entirely separate (but will obviously be linked with your NNID).
