$400 for a 4K, home-only Switch? If any of this is remotely true, they had best pray that both Sony and MS shoot for the moon on specs and have to sell for $600+ and even then... Maybe they're hoping people will just see 4K and 4K and give them equal value?

I can't decide if a 4K Nintendo console is more of a fanboy wetdream (something Nintendo pretty much never does with its hardware) or just an unjustified weird choice (something Nintendo almost always does with its hardware). As such, this rumor hits me like one of those a cat + buttered toast problems. No idea which way up it will land.

Right now, I can't believe they would be dumb enough to stifle their current momentum to chase the tiny audience that would be interested in this, or at least I don't want to.

I don't think people are surprised, just continuously skeptical. As I recall, the last thread on the subject was met with the same doubt, though I think the doubt comes from a place of hope rather than reason.

For me, unless they show some kind docking functionality (i.e. Switching, lol) then it'll feel like the Wii U all over again--expensive, directionless, badly-named dud released as the followup to fresh, successful, brand-resurrecting hardware. If anything, it's all-too believable.
It' ok that there are who prefers to be pessimistic.
But I think the reaction about this argument is over exaggerated :messenger_grinning_sweat:

I think it would be an interesting choice, from Nintendo, to create a home-console only with Nintendo Switch 2, and able to try to hold up, and support, the third parties with the coming of the nextgen.

Ya Nintendo releasing another home console only is a bad idea. Gamecube Wii u n64 come to mind. They are beat when they try diffrent stuff wii or stick to handhelds. Switch. Especially if its called switch 2. I see Wii u level sales on this
GameCube is a great console.

I think Nintendo might be considering a stationary version, but they would for sure rein in the specs and sell it at $200-$300.

The price will always be an issue based on their customers' demographic. A $400 powered system cannot completely satisfy the hardcore players with its specs, and nor the normies either, because of the price.

I don't believe that rumor, mostly because a release date for January 2021 seems too far for me. Jumping holiday sales for just one month doesn't make sense, specially considering the nextgen from Microsoft and Sony will be out by Nov 2020 with all the AAA that will come in that period and many of us will already have spent all the money on a new home console. If Nintendo is considering to release a Switch "TV" would be wise to release it next year with Animal Crossing launch (March 20 2020) to have more momentum. Breath of the Wild launched the same day of the Switch, so I think it will happen again next year 3/3/2020.

Fair enough. =)

Won't do a thing to keep third party support though. Even IF Nintendo allows Switch 2 exclusive software, the installed-base would be completely reset. So, who are they selling to? What's the draw? They'd be betting on a Nintendo home-console to sell well-enough to be worth the cost of a port.

If, on the other hand, they devoted those same resources to bringing less demanding software to all Switch family models, they'd be able to sell to the console crowd and the 50-60 million mobile Switch owners. There's no financial reason to make a console only port, so how could this positively affect 3rd parties, even if it ended up being in spitting distance of the new generation?

Assuming all of this were true, Switch 2 owners would have to settle for prettier versions of games for the most part.

-$400
-Home console only
-Tegra Xavier which is a chip built for machine learning and compute, not gaming and general purpose
-Releases less than four years after the Switch

why would anyone believe this garbage?

Always thought with that.

Is going to have a powerfull console and a weaker hybrid and a only portable console. Maybe they leave the hybrid, but the games can be played on every console, just doing upgrade or downgrade beteween.

But those specifications?! Nah

Some of these fan fictions are out there. This one is out of the known universe.

I think at best we'll probably get 8 gig ram(double it's 4 gig now) a bigger 7 inch Sharp Igzo screen and
a SOC that is 50% more powerful that what we currently have.

Custom Nintendo sauce my friend
Yeap I already saw that custom sauce in original Switch :p

Nintendo sure wants do to a Switch Pro (or 2 like the OP) but there is a reason they have to delay or cancel it for while and just release a Switch Lite...

There is no actual tech to support a jump in power for a Switch Pro (or 2) yes... and I'm not even sure if a Tegra 7nm will archive Nintendo goals.

$400? :LOL::LOL::LOL:

And for $100 more you can get a soon-to-be PS5 and Scarlett with specs that run circles around it? AND it's non-portable. DOA.

Now, I can see it going for $200. That would actually be the perfect price point for a system like this with its form factor. Anything above that is pushing into DOA territory though.

You're just so wrong in so many ways.
Nope... that is the truth.

X1 max flops: 0.5TF FP32 at 15W
Tegra Xavier max flops: 1.4TF FP32 at 30W

If you drop the power consumption of Tegra Xavier to 15W like X1 it will be close in GPU power to X1.

nVidia marketing at finest... they say the Tegra Xavier offer near 3x the performance of X1 but forget to say it needs to run at 1377Mhz with a power draw of 30W to that happen... at the same power envelop the Tegra Xavier maybe has 10-20% more GPU power than X1.

BTW Switch X1 config is way below 15W power draw with just 700ish mhz docked... at 1000Mhz it reaches 15W.

I mean I'd buy it for the performance increase, but I really don't like the idea of it being home-only. The tech is out there for eGPUs now, why don't we just get something like that for our existing Switch consoles. I guess that wouldn't help the CPU bottleneck, but still, I'd rather buy a beefed up handheld with a eGPU dock if they're going to keep calling it the "Switch".

Also, this is very very likely a fake.

Exactly.

But, if they decided to really make this "enhanced" version of Nintendo Switch, with Nintendo Switch 2, I think the only reasons are those of a technical, graphic, and marketing point of view, I suppose.

Proposing a system similar to that used by both Sony and Microsoft, with PS4 Pro and Xbox OneX.
With the only difference that with Nintendo Switch 2 Nintendo potentially wants to try to evolve its basic hardware, so that it is sufficiently capable of running even a multi-platform version of a PS5 and Xbox Next game.
(for example, running a full version of Cyberpunk 2077 on Nintendo Switch 2, but without the huge technical / graphic downgrades done as for TW3 in the normal Switch)

I think that, seen in these terms, it's a pretty clever choice for Nintendo.
(also because it would launch a new home console, able to run all the games already released on standard Switch from since the beginning of his commercialization)

This sounds extremely fake, the wording is very typical of The fake stuff that gets around. I'm sure some elements are likely to be true but everyone on here would be able to guess some truths

LOL this is faker than HRC's love for Bill Clinton.

I mean why not say 8K 50 Terraflop machine with a 14 ft foldable screen that folds to 5 inches while were at it.

Switch 2 won't launch by 2021, but the Switch Pro will launch sometime around 2020-2021. This will be Nintendo's way to combat the PS5/NextBox while the streaming wars settle down.

149.99 Switch Lite
249.99 Switch OG
349.99 Switch Pro

Also “Breath of Darkness” has always been a stupid name and I will be immensely disappointed if that’s what it ends up being.
Darkness Breathes is a better title if they were going to go that route. But, Nintendo names Zelda's (and pretty much all of their titles) after the gameplay elements it represents. So, if Darkness is a gameplay mechanic in the new game, I can see them fitting in the name Darkness in there some where.

Would be interesting if they'd touch "The Legend of Zelda" and change it to "The Curse of Zelda" or something.

While you are correct and I also feel a jump from 0.5TF to 1.4TF is not enough for a Switch Pro/2...
A homeconsole do not need to have that low power consumption though, so running it with/at 30W is ok.

Sounds better than Breath of the Darkness. The point was if they go with a gameplay scheme where Darkness plays a central role, they'll fit the game in there somewhere.

Would be interesting if they'd touch "The Legend of Zelda" and change it to "The Curse of Zelda" or something.
That'd be cool. Or LOZ: Curse of Hyrule or some shit.

Yet a home console wouldn't use such a weak part, especially in 2021.

This is why that rumor makes no sense.

But if they want a home console they should go with AMD or something else and not Tegra... there is only disadvantages using Tegra for a home console without the advantage of lower power draw required by portables.

If you don't have the power draw limitation of portable then Tegra became suck a weak processor for any purpose.

I thought the same about Switch's power in 2017 since it was supposed to be a homeconsole too but here we are with a sub 500gflop homeconsole from Nintendo.

Would it be easy to bring 100% no issues backwards compatibility with current Switch games to change to that hardware/arcitecture rather then "stick with the same" though?

Good luck offering comprehensive Switch BC with an AMD APU.

The Switch is not a home console though.

Like I pointed out, Tegra Xavier isn't even a general purpose part. It's for machine learning and AI. Putting this thing in a home console makes NO sense. The X1, by comparison, was a general purpose CPU designed for SOCs.

It's like the guy who posted this to 4chan just went on Wiki and looked up their most recent Tegra without doing any research. It's just total nonsense. You're also not getting 4k and 60fps out of hardware that realistically is about as powerful as the base Xbox One.

Hummm... I think you are misunderstanding me.

There is no Switch Pro/2 coming in the next few years because there is no tech to support it... that is really my opinion... any option with Tegra Xavier is not freasible to Nintendo and that is why they Delayed/Canceled the plans for while.

Anybody claiming that Nintendo will use Tegra Xavier for a Switch Pro/2 is in my opinion dreaming with something that won't happen.

BTW Switch is not a home console... it is a portable first with option to dock it to TV.
Everything around Switch were designed as Portable.

Of course Marketing will want to highlight it as a console and as portable because they want to sell it to both... that is why Switch is unite but it is still a Portable with option to dock it on TV like a console.

Well you also think Final Fantasy XV is the greatest game ever made, so yeah..

How did it sell?
As if personal opinions had to do with discussions about Rumors and Leaks XD

If you are only here to do member war, or just to made OT, you can also go elsewhere.

P. S .: the number of consoles sold does not indicate the quality of the console.

Games make the console.

I suppose it's Nintendo's way of dealing with the future PS5 and Xbox Next.
