Note to Jim Ryan: 43% of RE8 sales were on PS5. Only 15% on PS4.

UK Sales only because NPD doesn't believe in releasing numbers anymore.

Here is the relevant bit.
43% of Resident Evil sales were on PS5, 31% on Xbox, 15% on PS4 and 11% on PC.

This comes after Spiderman Miles continues to top the chart every other week whenever they get PS5s in stock clearly showing that a large number of people were waiting to buy it on PS5. Not to mention the fact that we are only in May 2021 so by the time Horizon, GoW and GT7 launch next year, the userbase should be doubled skewing these numbers in favor of PS5 even more.

This isnt new btw. We saw similar splits with cross gen games like Watch Dogs and Destiny last gen.

i get what your trying to say but these cross gen titles are ps4 games. why would you cancel these versions for no reason? they probably spent most of their development on ps4. if sony announce any new games going forward as cross gen, than i will start complaining but these games started development years ago.

Resident evil is a bad example to use. There are niche users who will buy that series, not dunk on it. Not everyone is keen on horror game. You need something like cold war to see the userbase. As much as Jim is sly man, he is a business man. he sees the data of his company sales. he has professional people who will out weight those decision. This is why gaffers dont have no clue about how business work. Once ps5 hits 30m, that is when true big next gen games drop. Until then, he will continue to do cross gen.

He has a company to run, not a fanboy site. He has higher up, who he answers to, and they need answers to why their sales is low. Not everything is sunshine and fluffy.

RE8 is not a PC focused franchise. Cyberpunk is and it sold 60% on PC.
While I do understand your point (perhaps The Witcher would be a better example), it's a bit weird to call Cyberpunk a PC focused franchise since it's the first entry and the game was removed from the digital store of one of the consoles.

I am not saying they should cancel them.

I am saying first party studios shouldve never started them as PS4 titles.

Shooter games, are primary pc. Shooter on console is horrible. unless the game has mouse and keyboard support, console shooter wont reach the level of pc shooter. Mouse makes shooting pretty much easy.

And that wasn't being discussed, so I fail to see your point.

You want to back that up to Jim with other games from other regions?

He's an idiot on a tireless crusade. They should take away his thread-making privilege. Just get a PC and be done with it. Good luck playing those made-up real "next-gen" games that will make HZD look like PS2.

Goes to show you that the hardcore have pretty much already bought their PS5s. Releasing Horizon, God of War and GT7 on PS4 is useless.

I mean Horizon, God of War and GT7 I would think are all more "mainstream" games then RE8, but either way using UK numbers isn't telling the whole story. Sony likely isn't keeping games cross-generational for the western Europe and US markets, they're doing it for the 2nd and 3rd world markets, places like Brazil where the majority of gamers were still on PS3 well into PS4's lifecycle.

I am just saying games like Cyberpunk are more PC centric thats all. Even cod doesnt sell that well on PC.

RE is just a very console oriented franchise. I am sure Star Citizen if it ever comes out will do similar numbers to Cyberpunk.

Cyberpunk is shooter game, compared to re8. I can win the game with controller, due to how the enemy moves. in cyberpunk, enemy has faster reaction, and you need precise aim, which is hard to aim with controller, without aim assistant and fast hands.

Then they would have had to wait and the games wouldn't be out till 2023/4. Sony can never win. With PS4 everyone complained that 2013 PS3 games weren't cross gen now they are at least making better versions for the new hardware.

If only we had examples of successful consoles that sold 120-150 million consoles without ever releasing cross gen exclusives. If only.

Oh wait.

- PS2 - 150 million
- PS4 - 120 million

31% on Xbox, for anyone interested. It wasnt included for some reason..

I found this interesting -
1.2 million games were digitally downloaded via Steam, PSN, Xbox Store and Nintendo eShop, which is a drop of 54% over last year. 885,000 were sold via UK physical retailers,
Werent we just told not long ago that both Playstation and Xbox were over 80% digital now?

Ever heard of Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart?
Small game vs big game. While ratchet and clank are impressive ps5 next gen games, they are small, compared to last hzd and gow. Those games have insane details, characters, movements, that makes ratchet and clank baby. I am surprised ps4 can handle those games. If they get ps5 patch, i wouldnt be surprised if they will be considered a ps5 game.

those are numbers in the long run that don't really mean much. How many active PS4 users still today? 30 million at best? psvr sold more than 5 million according to Sony and yet today there are only BS casual players and a handful of actual active VR fans playing in multiplayer or latest releases - and most of those are streamers wanting free keys and content for their channels...

Yeah and Gran Turismo 6 was released a month after the PS4 launched and was a PS3 exclusive game. Would you prefer that Gran Turismo 7 be a PS4 only game?

Ps1 couoldnt handle ps2 games. Ps3 couldnt handle ps4 games, without some series fall back.

Two wrongs dont make a right.

Look at the sales of GT6. It is the biggest flop in the series. It shouldve been a PS4 title. Those 88 million PS3 owners didnt get them the sales they wanted. Huge fuck up by Sony last gen.

True, and I can see that happening with Chivalry 2 as an example. I just found it weird to use Cyberpunk as an example for the reasons that I mentioned, that's all.

Haven't played Cyberpunk but from what I've seen, it didn't look like it would be an issue since it isn't a competitive/fast paced shooter. I doubt console players would have any problem with it when they already play games like Destiny or Halo. The game being gimped on consoles or the lack of availability are bigger issues that influenced the sales than the fact that Cyberpunk is a fps, which is better played with mouse and keyboard.

I think it's near impossible to buy a ps5 without being bundled with miles morales annoyingly.

Would've much preferred one with demon souls when I had a ps5 briefly.

But I assume the miles morales bundles are getting swapped out with ratchet and clank now!

Its is when you fight multiple gangs, and on the higher level missions. I can agree with console version being a turd. even my pc cant even run that well. the game was purely optimized for high end gaming pc.

I actually don't disagree - cross gen sales dry up extremely quickly, and there is only a couple year window where it makes sense. But I honestly doubt there will be many more cross gen first party games announced for that reason because that would mean there are late 2022 or even 2023 releases, which just seems silly.

Though, I do wonder if this gen might play out a little differently due to the backwards compatibility. Any smaller non-AAA game really has no incentive to be PS5 only, because a PS4 version would allow them to release on both the PS4 and PS5 simultaneously. So I could see the PS4 actually having support way later in its life than would normally be the case because of this.
