Notice how XBox is quietly doing well?

I dunno why, but every time I see this thread title get bumped, I mentally translate it into millennial-speak: Fam, Xbox is low-key crushing it

I bought Metro Redux for my Xbox One. I get all my other games on PS, so I wanted to try it out.

I like my XBO digital titles. I really wish they'd bring Rez HD to BC because I own that on 360.

I think for any person just playing, not really paying attention to detail, that the Xbox has been alright.

Wow! Pot meet kettle.

If anything I endorse Sony more than anything else on this site. But GaF is another animal all together. Now let me tell you about irony;

What's insane about it, is that this place isnt called a Sony centric site because there are more Sony gamers and they've got the best games. Everyone knows Sony had the best reviewed and selling games this gen. Hell, even people who arent gamers know this.

By all rights, they should be VERY secure in their preferred platform with no need to shit up anything Xbox. Xbox shouldnt be a threat by any stretch of the imagination. Sony has a more than 2:1 lead in hardware sales (almost 100 million hardware sales), a plethora of SP award winning games - most being juggernauts in software sales. Even with a sub par streaming service, they have more people subscribed to Ps Now than Xbox has for Gamepass. So why would you even begin to worry about the competition or their games when your favorite company is winning by such a land slide? You starting to see the irony here, my guy?

GaF is called Sony centric because of how frequently Xbox (insert anything positive about Xbox here_____) is harshly criticized or hated, typically by Sony fans. And it isnt just troll posts. Ive seen extreme hatred for anything Xbox/Microsoft here to the point my jaw hits the floor. And it happens in EVERY. SINGLE. POSITIVE. XBOX. THREAD. That's not projecting....those are just facts.

Perhaps you dont understand what projection means.

Thank you for proving my point. :messenger_kissing_smiling:

It's going to become the third place home platform soon but sure it's doing fine. Certainly not on exclusives but otherwise yeah.

I'm not sure what's motivating TC's delusion but the vast majority of Xbox One owners have the base console. Very few own a 1X.
The vast majority of Xbox 1 owners are enjoying multiplatform games at their worst or runner up to the Switch.

this has been pretty much the company stance for a while: XboneS doesnt exist anymore, only X matters now. That's pretty shitty if you ask me.

I remember it was exactly 2 years ago - Scalebound was cancelled and everyone was losing their shit. Trolls were ecstatic, predicting XBox was going to be sold off, etc.. 2 years later, XBox as as profitable as it's ever been, reputation is good and they've still sold 25% of the consoles in this generation despite the games problem.

One thing I do not notice very much anymore are trollish comments that predict XBox will be sold off any day now. Even the die-hard PS4 fanboys accept Xbox is not going anywhere. That alone is a victory.

They have no games though. I have a Switch and PS4 and see no need in the near or distant future to own one. I would like to see more sources if you have any. Not that I particularly care if Xbox does well or not. I don't have any stake in the company, I just want good games - they have none.

No. Usually forget they even exist. What's the last big exclusive game they put out? Sea of Thieves?

Go Go Neo Rangers!
If you at least have mid gaming pc and want console you dont want xbox because pc will do all that just better. Ther is no left just xbox exclusives over pc. Ms did that themselfs and now they will give all xbox content to any platform to stream. Even less need for their console

Oh this argument again. Look past three feet in front of you and you'll see that their long term plan makes way more sense than the age old locked down model

At the same time we also criticize pro-Sony postings that make little sense.

As for this thread, the OP deserves criticism because there is hardly a point raised that has merit. Its a post, nothing more. If it was Sony, it would have seen equal criticism.

And for what it is worth, UWP and BC are two things Sony cannot provide at this stage.

Shit. Instead of posting facts i may have just revealed my colours. The horreur!
If Microsoft XBox Studios create great games it won't matter whether it's on XBox, PC or streaming. People will buy them.
So what's your general point?

It's getting clearer with each day that Sony are going to smash Xbox in the next gen.
Based on nothing, it seems. Or do you have something that helps out?

But since we are doing this, your post history indicates Sony bias so what part should i take seriously?

I would not be sure about this at all. Sony seems pretty arrogant these days. Than there is the huge censorship controversy. The Cross Platform Multiplayer part etc. If they kep this up and do even worse with their announcement with the new Playstation I think MS has a big chance if they are acting like rigtt now. They got pretty hard burned with the One Announcemnt and this carries throguhout the whole generation but every new Generation is a ne chance for everyone to make up.

Sony right now also has basically cut Communications with its fans be it through PSX or otherwise. They feel not as community friendly as they were with the PS4 announcement. This also has to do with important figures leaving the company.

I ahve always bbought a playstation but the censorship issue is pretty big for me . and I still do not know if I will buy a Ps5 if this is not solved. They do not even address this publicly.

Exclusives sell consoles. Xbox has no exclusives. Yet Xbox has sold 40 million consoles.

Obviously, something is not right.

most of it in the US, thanks to the cod casuals and to the few xbox zealots that still live there.
for 5 years on the market, it is really nothing to write home about. Thats less than 10 millions a year. It is pretty mediocre for a product backed by such a large company and that costs chump change at this point.

Perhaps you dont understand what projection means.

There's a small group of Xbox fans on here who get overly defensive.

Games such as State of Decay 2, Sea of Thieves received mixed reviews from Metacritic for a reason, but whenever someone brings out these problems, those same Xbox fans will say, "You're just hating all things Xbox because you're a Sony fan."

You've shown you're very hypocritical and it's strange that you would complain so much about people hating Xbox when you have proven over and over again you're not even being remotely rational with your argument.

I will point out hypocrisy when I see it, but if people just don't like the game, then so be it.

People are looking at Xbox, not because they're jealous or insecure, it's because they're waiting to see how they're going to do better. The way Sea of Thieves, Crackdown 3 and State of Decay 2 are handled, people are no doubt going to voice their opinions.

Do you know why you don't see people hating on Forza, Gears of War, Cuphead, Ori and Halo? Because they're quality games. On the other hand, Xbox fans on here have no problem calling PlayStation games movies and walking simulators, overrated, overhyped, one and done whenever a good PlayStation game is released. What happens when an Xbox game gets mixed reviews or lower than anticipated scores? Those Xbox fans on here will say it's media bias and if it was a Sony game, it would get a higher score.

Base do what I have seen, if there is a legitimate concern regarding a PlayStation game, a Sony fan will generally point it out and hopes Sony fixes it. But whenever an Xbox game has a legitimate concern, Xbox fans will say it's fine and people who point this out are just haters.

The Xbox fans on here just need to stop with the excuse.

Edit: Yes, there are some when people need to be told what they're saying is crap, but everything? No.

Why are you checking my post history? My opinion is based on fact. Sony has the games. Microsoft does not. That's not going to change in the next generation. Even with all those studio acquisition money-hats.

Those long posts don't cover that red neck boy
Why are you checking my post history? My opinion is based on fact.
Saying ''It's getting clearer with each day that Sony are going to smash Xbox in the next gen.'' is not a fact, but opinion.

Sony has the games. Microsoft does not.
Microsoft also has games, just less exclusives. Arguments like these are unnuanced hyperbole.

Microsoft also has UWP and BC, Sony does not. All this does not mean anything for the next-gen, but it sure is a compelling play in console warz.

Each console has its own benefits, and its up the customer what they find more important. That can mean that one point can overrule multiple others, or that multiple points are more important than one singular advantage.

That's not going to change in the next generation. Even with all those studio acquisition money-hats.
So it is not factual, but opinion. Good thing we came to that conclusion.

At the end of the day it's games that win gens. Not hardware, not convoluted subscription services like Game Pass etc. It's games. Why else would MS be scrambling around trying to buy up all the studio talent they can find? They know what the problem is and they are trying desperately to fix it. But they are failing to understand that you can't money-hat system selling games. Great games come from creative freedom and loving environments. Not from hastily thrown together studios. It's like trying to build a sports team by buying the best players from a bunch of different sports then throwing them into a team and then being surprised when it turns out they suck.

One thing I do not notice very much anymore are trollish comments that predict XBox will be sold off any day now. Even the die-hard PS4 fanboys accept Xbox is not going anywhere. That alone is a victory.
Eye roll. How old are you OP?

The facts are clear. Xbox did not sell near as many units as Sony this generation by a significant margin. Moreover, Sony certainly had more of the “mindshare” of gamers this gen. (And it wasn’t just hardware)

And yeah, Xbox could be sold any day as Microsoft has a lot of different divisions. Sony could be bought as well, but it’s less likely.

How this effects Xbox going forward? I don’t know. We will have next generation to find out.

Now get this fan-boy crap out of here. I thought this had mostly died down around here

100% disagree. Gamers being quiet about MS is really a bad sign. Even long time hardcore XBOX fans aren't as passionate about the XBOX brand anymore. XBL on other platforms is a precursor to them exiting the gaming hardware market imo......

Why is this thread not banned? PS4 is close to 100 millions, the just released Switch almost sold as much and the "Xbox is quietly doing well".

Oh worse, the title is framed as what I call a force affirmation "Notice how..."

Is this Buzzfeed? Where are the mods?

40 millions cod casuals and xbox zealots. Makes sense.
40 millions consoles nothing to write about, but hating on Xbox, now here there is quite a lot to write about.

Oh, and I forgot the constant firesales. And despite that very few people are buying it.

Who knew Wii had better games than 360 and PS3.

Are they quietly doing well though?

seems outside of sale numbers (only because their behind btw) they have been quite vocal in regards to adverts, boasting about the X and Gamepass and let's not forget how they like to use the label "exclusive" so liberally

Don't get wrong, they have a lot to brag about,
Microsoft currently are the only ones with a completely backwards compatible machine and while not all titles are backwards compatible that's still very impressive

Thus far (possibly changing the future) they are the only ones with EA access and they were the first ones to jump in with cross-play and don't forget Gamepass...

Also whether you like it or not the X is the most powerful console currently available, and honestly a Marvel of engineering I love mine I just don't play it as often as my PS4 because it doesn't have nearly as many games to my liking.

I don't think it's doing well at all unfortunately. I think it has more to do with Sony not doing dick all ATM.

Oh, really? You know something we dont know guv? Give us the low down..

Link?
What? I don't know anything. It's an opinion. I don't think XBOX is doing any better than usual. It just seems like it because the console scene is super slow due to Sony's inactivity,

Not really, its just the end of the generation, so it kind of evens out, consoles get cheaper and thats pretty much it, but the PS4 is definetly where most gamers are, and the exclusives destroyed MS on this gen.

I'm new to the forum, so please excuse me, if I'm out of line. (first post) For the record, me, my family, and/or both owned all the Nintendo home consoles through the GameCube, I personally own two original Xboxes, own two Xbox 360s [although I actually owned 4 i.e. RROD], and I currently own a PS4. With that said, I read the OP and something struck me as odd was this statement.

"2 years later, XBox as as profitable as it's ever been"

What is odd about it is Microsoft generally doesn't release individual profit numbers on products like that. I seriously doubt Microsoft could tell you when or if Xbox is "profitable" on a quarterly basis as its actually strung out over many divisions now. I have no idea if the product "Xbox" is profitable, I doubt Microsoft could tell you, as it depends on what you consider "Xbox". Of course, we are just talking on a quarterly basis, not the product/services as a whole being in the black.... you are probably in the 10s of billions in the red, but we will never know and I doubt they even know as that is not how they report.

Now, Sony and Nintendo don't really have this luxury, meaning the losses and profits are a little easier to disect as their overall businesses are smaller, generally speaking, and they don't really try and hide the sausage. I did find this statement kind of odd, as its his attempt to use a "fact" (allegedly) which to me is not a fact at all to then justify his opinion. Hopefully, I am not being too harsh to the OP, I do sometimes get frustrated that people use incorrect financial information when correct financial information is available.

Now I will throw the OP a bone, Nadella hinted that Xbox might be profitable on a quarterly basis, but I think most think this was a way to deflect and as Nadella was busy shutting down Microsoft other consumer products/service i.e. Microsoft Band, Xbox Kinect, Games for Windows Live, Groove Music (formerly Xbox/Zune Music, etc. (we don't really know)
https://www.cgmagonline.com/2017/08/14/microsofts-xbox-never-profitable-according-report/

Its possible that the product "Xbox" is profitable on a quarterly basis, but it depends on what you consider "Xbox". I seriously doubt Microsoft will ever recoup the billions (probably 10s of billions since the time of William Gates) they put into Xbox though.

Microsoft considers gaming strategic, so the current 'crisis' relative to Playstation/Switch is not relevant to them. They have a very long term vision that they will execute on. If it fails utterly in the next 5-7 years, then YES they will close it all down.

I don't think they will close up shop anytime soon, Phil just got Nadella for more money. And its more of a question of Windows than it is Xbox. Meaning, what are they going to do with Windows? They have now rolled out their virtualized desktop solution (application layer will probably be coming down the pike as well), how long until they offer that in the cloud only? At that point, having a traditional OS locally seems suspect, but its a long ways out.
https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/services/virtual-desktop/

The question to me isn't whether they close Xbox, the question is, how much longer do they support a non-cloud win32 platform naively? (and it depends on what you consider Xbox to be)

We're years away from all that, but it will be interesting to see, if Microsoft goes from 90% cloud to 100% cloud.

I've read that they're working on something called OneCore which is s refactoring of Windows 10 to very small modules that can allow them to easier piece together new SKUs to wildly different form factors. Hence the rumors about Surface Andromeda. If you have all the right components(UI + networking + data access) then you can make a device like that work. Also the long term vision is apparently to have all Win32 applications running in something like the upcoming Windows Sandbox. Everyone on the web sites keeps saying that UWP is dead, but there is no alternative. UWP is the future and I believe MS will be talking about it at 2019 Build conference.

Technically you can repackage your win32 to UWP i.e. Centennial. Yes, they are working on OneCore but really the only use Windows has is for win32, meaning that is what the market is saying over the last 7 years, just my take. Generally, I would say UWP was never alive to be counted dead.

"but there is no alternative. UWP"

Actually, there is, you run win32 on any device either on an application layer or virtualized desktop from any device i.e. cloud services. OneCore is just another run to see if some traction can be made i.e. Window RT, Windows S, Windows S mode, Window Phone, etc. Wouldn't it be easier for them to strip out UWP out of Windows, offer windows/win32 via vdi or application layer? I'm not going to say all of this is going to play out like that, but the services are coming - they released their own vdi service in the Fall which I linked in the prior post.

Their stance - run win32 from anywhere on any device, not much different than the rest of their strategy including game streaming. (not saying I dig any of this)

most of it in the US, thanks to the cod casuals and to the few xbox zealots that still live there.
for 5 years on the market, it is really nothing to write home about. Thats less than 10 millions a year. It is pretty mediocre for a product backed by such a large company and that costs chump change at this point.

Cod casuals moved to the PS4. That's why it sells so well. The best selling games on there are multiplatform.

That's the reasoning of a child.

How do you explain that the best selling games on the PS4 are multiplatform? Uncharted 4 isn't selling 100 million copies, why? If those games are what "sell" consoles, shouldn't everyone buy it?
