Uncharted should have some nice legs, especially if it also gets a Neo mode.
Can't envision a reality where this doesn't happen

I hope this is a sign to come for other beloved platforming franchises to make a comeback.
I believe there is a market for them, but they're better off releasing in the late spring and summer months. Releasing in the holiday season would be suicide

I'd like UC4 more if Drake wasn't such an asshole/idiot.

Should be a very strong month 1, but I don't see why the decay wouldn't be fairly sharp, unless I'm misreading the stength of the MP.

As for racing, no racing game has a meaningful impact to sales or the charts. That genre has declined in such a saddening and rapid way.

What does sharp mean here?

It's not an apple-to-apple comparison, since competition was weaker then vs now, but TLoU held on to no.3 on NPD in its 2nd month, and I highly doubt MP was a huge factor in that.

I don't think UC4 hold for more than 2 months, but I still expect it to have some amount of hold to last it charting till June before it goes away by the power of Greyskull.

I think he means percentage sales decrease month over month.

New IPs generally have better legs due to people being hesitant to buy them without a recommendation. The same is true for reboots.

I think GT can be an exception to the rule though. GT6 still sold 4M+ even with all the debilitating factors involved.

Sales % decline month on month. Could/should still chart month 2, perhaps quite high. Big % decline doesn't necessarily mean small units in month 2 and thereafter. Just means that marketing/quality of game/lack of competitive releases drove high overall sales during launch.

Games with extended periods of shallow decay generally are the games that are surprises and big word of mouth games. Can't say that UC4 was under marketed or a surprise to anyone.

Saying that decay could be high doesn't necessarily mean the sales will stink. Just means that launch really delivered.

EDIT: and what Nirolak said

Ah. In that sense, I agree. UC4 isn't going to be a slow-decay game. It'll sell well over the long-tail as with every Uncharted game, but that will be from RotW, bundling and other measures Sony does to push Uncharted sales globally.

Maybe if they release it outside the holidays.
It's unlikely to have a meaningful impact anyway in the global sales spectrum of the racing genre if it's a game that can only chart by avoiding the holiday seasons.

That's right. TLOU started off good but it just kept on going, particularly in EU because the game had such good word of mouth. The eventual TLOU2 is going to go guns blazing at release for sure, but as is the nature of sequels it won't have the legs TLOU did. UC is just a bad franchise, best thing about it is that ND won't make another one again which is very exciting.

GT Sport ain't going to do fuck all in NA, the country don't care about racing games or racing in general because they just aren't any good at it. GT Sport will do better than GT6 WW though for sure, GT6 just released at the worst time imaginable and was a mistake in every single way. GT Sport will out do UC4 quite easily though, GT is far and away the biggest franchise Sony have which also makes sense since it's their best franchise as well.

Sold less than 180k.

GT6 was launched in the wrong time, PS3 title in the middle of euphoria about PS4 launch.
As December 2015 Sony shipped 1.09 ML copies of GT6. Not a good result for Gran Turismo but they fucked up with release date / marketing etc.

GT5 sold about 399k in his first month IIRC?

I'd be interested in seeing if there's a genre of AAA games that can thrive without necessarily being successful in the US.

GT is a huge exception where it's the brand that is massive and its success isn't indicative of an overall health for the genre (see also, Super Mario with respect to 3D platformers ... and also racing games).

The AAA industry always feels like it's in a precarious place these days where we're on the cusp of a huge decline, but then we also only see the sales through the lens of a very small number of markets. It's very difficult to tell if emerging markets are beginning to become a significant contribution, except for when we get something from Sony regarding Southeast Asia/China/the middle east etc. We need more global brands to help develop this, which I think Sony has generally excelled at since they started SCE but Nintendo and Microsoft have not.

Doom is probably the most interesting game sales wise for May.

It's not projected to be an instant huge success like Overwatch, but it seems to have solid product quality, good word of mouth, and an astronomical marketing budget.

It does have things like multiplayer which can help assert longer term value and shelf life, but that's the most maligned part of the package as well.

What are the best performing racing games this generation actually?

Mario Kart followed by The Crew?
MK8 is at 7.5 million iirc
Whats the nest best selling racing game?

I can see GTS doing 6-8 million but I don't think it will have the same draw as a mainline GT even though it is technically a mainline GT. Will GT7 be a later release? I think it will.

Does anyone really think, after thinking it through, that Nathan is a good guy?
Elena deserves better. #teamElena

I'll look in a couple days and follow up. The gap between kart and #2 is Mariana Trench territory.

Right, I think Ubisoft has implied it's only between 2-3 million, which isn't amazing by any means, but I think that might still be enough for second place at this point.

I don't think GT is that much big than UC at least right now .
In fact i can see UC selling more WW since one of GT bigger markets is dead ( Japan) .

As for GT in NA i think marketing going to be important but they have to bring a really good game .
Then again GT could go the road as games as a service .
So even if it don't sell as much it can make more money that anything GT has done before.

Haha, I wouldn't say this. There's just little interest in console sim racing here and one sim racing game is "enough" for many during a gaming generation. People here don't anticipate racing game sequels the same way they anticipate sequels of far more popular gaming genres like sports and shooters. This is why I think it's a bit funny that the console that is far more "American centric" currently has more racing titles than the PS4.

But anyway, I definitely think GT Sport will do better than GT6 in America even with the difference in the PS4's current American user base vs. the PS3's in 2012/2013; Sony is already advertising GT Sport FAR better than GT6.

.
But it doesn't.

Also it has nothing to do with American not being good at it, Americans buy Sims, it's just not a popular genre as others. Also considering the lack of simulators in general outside 2 main franchises for like the last 500 years well.

100% no I agree.

See this is why I didn't enjoy UC4 as much as so many others seemed to have. Apparently making it more grounded means instead of a fun pulpy action romp we get Nathan Draje making a complete ass out of himself and becoming incredibly unlike able in the process.

I'll look in a couple days and follow up. The gap between kart and #2 is Mariana Trench territory.
It's crazy how fast the genre has plummeted. Is there any market research or data that helps to understand why such a drastic drop has happened? It seems similar to the Fughting Game dark years prior to SFIV reviving mass market interest in the genre. Hopefully a new title can do the same for the racing genre in the years to come then maybe we can fatally get another Burnout or Rush game.... T_T

Opinions aren't facts. Don't treat them as such. There are plenty of people like myself who enjoyed UC far more than TLOU. Hell I didn't even like UC4 that much (not enough pulp and too much grim dark) but even still I enjoyed it a helluva lot more than the depressing moral quagmire that was TLOU.

I play games to have fun and enjoy myself TLOU did neither of these things for me. Uncharted in the other hand has accomplished these things in spades just by virtue of its entertaining characters and over the top action adventure style stories.

But this all besides the point. I don't know why you are so intent on downplaying or badmouthing Uncharted (an agenda that is painfully obvious given the BS you've posted in this thread) but it neither holds up to even the most basic scrutiny nor does it do you any favors. If you have gripes with the game voice them don't inform people that disagree with you that they are wrong and that it is something simply because you say so. It's childish.

This is a fanboy post, Explain Forza 6 and the games on the 360 then.
Did you just accuse Snyder of being a fanboy for what was an incredibly diplomatic and 100% true post? That's rich mr XB1 avatar. Me thinks the lad doth protest too much.

Elena is the lucky one. Chloe is the superior version.

Not really, take a look at actual Forza sales, current market position and it's a fair statement. Even in the 360 days it wasn't pushing GT numbers.

I don't know a single person that bought The Crew. Like even on the board. I think that has to be the best case of channel stuffing ever. I always see on the shelves at like best buy. I just don't buy it (LITERALLY LOL).

Which never happened, why do people still believe this? SFIV didn't do anything.

Some Bleach games
Dead or Alive 4
Mortal Kombat V.s DC and Armageddon
Fight Night Round 3
Tekken 6
Def Jam
Soul Calibur IV

are some examples of it fighting games that were before or at the time of Street Fighter IV (depending on country) not that I am saying your nuts or anything I'm just trying to figure out where this notion comes from, I keep seeing it yet there's no evidence.

No-one is saying those didn't exist. Rex's argument is about the mass market appeal of fighting games.

The Crew is actually really fun. I put 40 hours in and finished it. That demo really poisoned the well for it.

Well then you would be absolutely, 100% incorrect.

So at least you have that going for you, which is nice.
Prove that SFIV renewed interest then.

Unless you think releases of software=sales

Some fresh faces with good fighting spirit. That's great. And E3 around the corner. Marvellous gift of fate.
Just stay polite and noone gets banned.
