Game has no LEGS based on NPD and Media Create numbers.
Well that's just not true.

Either way, I think it's done fine for a brand new fighting game IP. We don't know what Nintendo's expectations are.

not in the top 20 in its second month. it's just like what happened to the persona series, leading to its official cancellation in the middle of may.

Indeed. Shame, that.

ARMS is likely around the LTD sales of Pikmin 1 currently. I wish that series would have continued.

Hardware is down YoY.

PS4/X1 sold less then last August then? Or one of the two? Dunno if there's any way to tell.

Probably down to price drops and significantly worse Xbox sales (the S launched August 2016 and they had absolutely nothing this year).

Based on?

I mean, it will probably sell 2-3m units worldwide but that's not the caliber of sales the Mario Kart team probably would like to settle on.

It feels like ARMS was too hardcore of a genre to pick for mass appeal. ARMS tries to make the mechanics of the genre more accessible and it's still a game that kicks your ass nonstop.

A wise gaffer recently said: "Nothing to be [surprised] by. There are new 18 year olds every day."

Every month there's a new teenager being allowed by his parents to play M rated games for the first time lol.

You can buy M rated games at 17.

3m for a (new) fighting game not called Smash is pretty damn good.

I mean, sure, but I'm not sure the Mario Kart team needs to be limited to fighting games for this gen. Maybe they could make another type of game that could sell like Splatoon.

Seems worthwhile to try.

Well I don't expect Arms 2 this gen. But certainly on whatever comes after the Switch.

One big difference between ARMS and Splatoon that I think Nintendo needs to keep in mind next time they make a new IP is that you can still contribute and do fun things in Splatoon even if you suck. You can sneak around and help paint areas without many people around, try to escape, feel sneaky, etc.

If you suck at ARMS, you're getting your shit pushed in.

We don't know their expectations are, but I'm assuming they expected ARMS to outsell 1-2 Switch. It's the lowest selling Nintendo developed game for the Switch in Japan. Assuming the same for EU/NA.

Of course they could still make a sequel. They funded a sequel to Bayonetta ffs.

I'm hella curious what UFC 2s LT sales are at this point. It's had really strong legs and while yes it's been heavily discounted it still charted in the top 20 this month in the revenue chart. It also shows up pretty regularly in the EU PSN download charts

Been a really strong performer for EA I would think

ARMS' longevity as a franchise will completely depend on what kind of fighting community it manages to foster. It wasn't a massive sales success like Splatoon was (it did well, it just wasn't the cultural shockwave Nintendo probably wanted), but if it manages to stay alive in a tournament scene, I could see Nintendo continue with a sequelt.

I think Arms can benefit from weekly updates with new arm every week, and a new stage and fighter every month.

Some nice goalpost moving in regards to ARMS.

'it won't get a sequel'

Considering the games sales, it probably will.

'But it didn't sell as much as Mario Kart!'

Name a fighting game that has achieved 20+/30+ million sales in one of its entries.

'It's the least succesfull Switch title!'

It'll sell in small quantities over the coming few years. Enough to take it to around 3 million sold worldwide.

Can't wait to see the next goalpost. Probably something related to channel stuffing.

For Japan, ARMS will outsell 1-2 Switch. The latter was a launch game, ARMS is fairly recent and has almost already caught up to it's numbers, and is selling better than it each week.

It outsold 1-2 Switch in NA this month. I don't see any reason to believe ARMS won't surpass 1-2 Switch WW.

I mean, Nintendo's Mario Kart team doesn't have to make a fighting game though.

Isn't this the third month? I remember it charting low in the top 20 last month, unless I'm wrong.

ARMS has already outsold 1-2 Switch according to Famitsu, and it will surely do so on Media Create in due time.

It's going to outsell 1 2 Switch in Japan going with weekly sales and digital known numbers

I forgot Agents of Mayhem came out.

Great for TLL.

Congrats Nintendo. Maybe I'll add to the September numbers. If I could buy a Switch.

Expecting a brand-new franchise to equal fucking Mario Kart in sales seems a little unreasonable.
I guess people expected a Splatoon phenomenon. Imo arms is doing quite well considering its a first person fighter that relies a lot on replayability. I mean in my eyes - as someone who only tried the testpunch and didnt buy the game - it seems like theres not much else to do than keep fighting and get better.

I like the 3ds and have about 35-40 games on it, some which are LE.

The best thing about Switch succeeding is many handheld oriented games hopefully get a huge face-lift in production value for their next iterations.

Why isn't Mario+Rabbids Kingdom Battle appearing in the top 10 for Switch/August? It was released August 29 in NA wasn't it? Did it really sell that little?

Lol, how is Mass Effect Andromeda still up there in the top 10 games of 2017?

I guess there's still hope for a next Mass Effect game after all.

Very impressive for Uncharted its more impressive since the game is $40

This. Plus the fact that they might have lost x sales due to being a season pass purchase

congrats to Naughty Dog. TLL is sooo fucking good

Did it? Third place in its launch month? And behind 4 year old gta 5?

That doesn't seem good to me.

Yeah its good. And its also a DLC turned around in about a year.
