Notes:
- ”Grand Theft Auto V has now been on the market 49 months and has achieved 41 Top 10 chart appearances, 16 more times than any other single title in reported history," said Piscatella. ”In addition, Grand Theft Auto V is the all-time best-selling game by both revenue and units in tracked sales across PC, console and portable with digital and packaged combined."
- ”The shooter genre has experienced a 30 percent sales decline in 2017 year to date, but this is coming off a record high in spending for the genre over the same period a year ago," Piscatella said. ”Despite the decline, 2017 year-to-date consumer sales for the shooter genre are the third highest of all-time, trailing only the year to date periods in 2013 and 2016." [Nirolak's Note: I'd wait for Destiny, Call of Duty, and Battlefront before panicking.]
- "NPD reports that racing games have seen a resurgence since August 2016, growing more than 80 percent thanks primarily to Nintendo's Mario Kart 8 and Forza Horizon 3. Conversely, the shooter genre has declined in the same period of time."

Hardware:

Switch: #1

Notes:
- "Strong sales continue for the Nintendo Switch, which was the best-selling platform last month. It's been jostling with Sony's PlayStation 4 since its launch in March; it was the best-selling platform except for May and June, which went to the PS4. Year to date, the PS4 is the best-selling console."
- ”Year to date, hardware spending has grown 17 percent versus 2016 to $1.7 billion," said Piscatella. ”Consumer spending on Nintendo Switch and plug ‘n' play devices such as the NES Classic are providing growth."

Some notes:

1. Hardware growth is up 17% for 2017.
2. Uncharted: The Lost Legacy grabbed the third spot despite being on one platform, being $40 (NPD is revenue-based), and without counting the Uncharted 4 Digital Deluxe Edition, or as part of the Uncharted 4 Explorer's Pack.
3. PS4 is the best-selling platform year-to-date, though Switch has won four of its six months.
4. The only category that saw a boost in August was accessories, up 10% to $118 million, driven by Xbox One S controllers, Turtle Beach headsets, Switch Pro controllers and game cards.

EDIT:

Wow, Lost Legacy performed really well. ARMS just kind of dropped off the face of the earth. Nintendo is in a fantastic position heading into the holiday season (barring bad stock issues, anyway).

Kudos to Uncharted considering that only covers the stand-alone disc.

Seems like an otherwise slow month. Splatoon 2 holding well from the month before, BOTW holding as a must-have Switch game, and Overwatch... being motherfucking Overwatch.

Good Stuff for Lost Legacy...How does GTAV do it? I don't even have a copy of that game yet on any platform, even lastgen.....So I guess there are many more people to sell this too ;)

Poor Mario+Rabbids...not even at top 20.
Haha, sarcasm?

It hadn't been released yet!

GTAV in top ten. I think GTAV would take number 1 spot if it gets ported to Switch. All the double dippers would be double dipping again for portability. Rockstar could be raking more in...

Ask me about the moon landing or the temperature at which jet fuel burns. You may be surprised at what you learn.
You know who Im really happy to see in the top 10?

Tom Cuh-lancy!

Sad for ARMS, wonder if a price jump would help it hop back onto the charts. Otherwise, I'm enjoying it. Have yet to fool around with the update!

Nintendo getting games like Zelda, Kart and Splatoon out early in the generation ensures them multiple evergreen games that are going to sell consistently throughout the Switch's lifespan. Well done!

It's suffering the same fighting game sales drop other fighting games have, at least it still holds in Japan. But yeah wondering if a price drop would sweeten the deal for stragglers.

Man, GTA V is crazy. I was betting it would be announced for Switch during yesterday's Direct, I thought it was a sure thing considering LA Noire. Guess not.

I remember when people thought Siege bombed...yet here we are in Q3 2017 and it's in the top 10. What a time to be alive.

it really is! shows what continued, dedicated support & strong wom will do for a title like this.
