I corrected the typo.

I'm talking a price drop 2 years from now. That's also when i think a bulk of the 360 fan base will upgrade. I don't see the ps4 leading in NA by then or there on after. Rest of the world? Sure but not here.

That's just my hunch.
Ah yes that's certainly a valid opinion. I disagree but again that's my opinion on the matter. Sorry if my previous response sounded aggressive or strong, I didn't mean that

Based on what I have, 2000 was lower with PSX on top. Don't have handheld sales from then, but not sure that GBC was popular enough to do > 3.8m the year before GBA released.
I have rough estimates of GBC alone at ~6.8 million in 2000, but they are from pixel counting, which is why I didn't mention them.

It is possibly the worst since 1996 for NPD, but I imagine that's some statistics they are not in a rush to talk about.

Cream has given us quite close figures though no? Did Wii do 150k in Dec then?
I used 160k for December based on his chart.

BS. Especially around Xmas time to the less well informed consumer. Someone wants to play the next gen version of CoD and there aren't any PS4s, they may well settle for an Xbox One. A kid asks their parents for a PS4 for xmas and they can't get it, they may well get an Xbox One.
It's not exactly clear HOW many extra XB1s were sold this way, but it's certainly a significant factor.
You're just explaining the wishful thinking behind the myth. I assure you it doesn't happen to any degree of significance like you believe.

Wow that's pretty grave then. I assume that takes into account handhelds as well?

People calculated 900k for PS4 using that chart.
Chart for whatever reason was wrong. Actual PS4 number is 858K - 863K

Edit: Oh nevermind I think you mean the chart is off, my apologies

The series started to tail off with 4 sales-wise. Maybe it'll pick back up with 2014 (can't judge that until it's closer to the this year's launch) and I know it's Ubisoft's biggest money maker, but I'm not a huge fan of the series. I get why people are, but do we need yearly iterations? Shouldn't that be what DLC is for, especially since the core game remains unchanged?

That's what I meant by "The series should die off". They don't need a game every year, they just need new songs. That'd be a lot cheaper to produce. My apologies, I should have been more clear.
That's technically not true. Ubisoft has been doing a surprisingly good job at updating the Just Dance main series through the years.

JD1 was rather archaic, supposedly because of a low budget, but nonetheless perfectly fine and enjoyable – I wouldn't qualify it as shovelware.

JD2 brought 2-player dances, where each player has a different choreography, a significant graphical overhaul, new scoring system, the “Gold Moves”, a DLC store.

JD3 brought quartets (4-player choreographies), mash-ups (alternate choreographies with moves from previous games), unlockable modes/songs, achievements. It's also the first multiplatform Just Dance.

JD4 brought yet another significant graphical overhaul, dance battles, more alternate choreographies, an updated Just Sweat mode (for those excercising), “dance quests” (per-song achievements), “dancer cards” (player profiles), party master on Wii U (player with Wii U GamePad can preview and chose the next move dancers will have to perform).

JD2014 is the first Just Dance with online multiplayer, and it's rather well implemented. Everyone dances to the same song at the same time, there are real-time leaderboards, songs can be voted for. It also adds 3-player choreographies, karaoke mode, video recording/editing/sharing features for all platforms besides Wii, alternate routines as DLC for a reduced price.

I don't understand why it took them 4 years to add online multiplayer, versus only 1 year to add DLC on Wii which has limited online capabilities to begin with. It seems like they hold it back on purpose until sales started to fell.
Recently there have been rumours Ubisoft will finally allow people to play DLC from previous games in new games, like Dance Central does (did) on Xbox. I believe it's only now that the core game has stabilised… but then I wouldn't be surprised to see Ubisoft play its big cards next year in order to salvage the franchise, or rather postpone its death.

Why didn't 3rd party games sell more on PS4?. PS4 has a higher LTD number than X1 so the argument of the console being supply constrained goes out the window. PS4 is $100 cheaper than the competitor so it only makes sense that ppl would buy 3rd party games to play on it. PS4 even supposedly has higher resolution support, so it just doesn't make much sense that 3rd party games are selling worse than X1. The only conclusion I could think of is that ppl are more comfortable playing online with Xbox Live.

Huh?

NFS, 2K14, AC and FIFA all sold much better on the PS4 than the XB1.

COD and BF did better on the XB1 on the PS4 for a bunch of reasons, mainly because of the genre stronghold it had all of last generation and the fact that MS didn't launch the system with a shooter at all. The 450k or whatever it was number of people who bought KZ probably didn't pick up COD and BF too.

It couldn't crack a million, a feat the PS4 achieved in 24 hours in November, despite being massively overstocked in the full month of December.

Not great.
"Not great"? The Xbox One did very well this quarter. Selling 908-909K two months in a row at launch month is a feat that should be applauded, not criticized.

Both Wii U and Xbox One were not supply-constrained at launch. And yet, while Wii U only managed 463K in its first December, the Xbox One stayed just as strong as November with 908K.

Those are encouraging, healthy signs for future USA sales.

Don't downplay the Xbox One's successes just because the PS4 is outperforming it.

It is supply constrained, it sells out as soon as it's in stock anywhere.
PS4 even supposedly has higher resolution support, so it just doesn't make much sense that 3rd party games are selling worse than X1.
It does have higher resolution support for the vast majority of games. One thing you're making a huge assumption on is that the target market for X game is split evenly across the platforms. Third party games did sell better on PS4 depending on which ones you look at.

The only conclusion I could think of is that ppl are more comfortable playing online with Xbox Live.
Worst conclusion someone could come up with.

Yeah something similar happened with Need for Speed Rivals having lower sales on the XBO compared to the PS4 in the PAL charts. Edit: And this example can be used for NPD to ^

That and FPS' is the trademark genre of the Xbox brand as a whole.

You might want to relook at those third party numbers.

Edit: Shinra - are you sure that COD number for the PS3 is LTD? If not, it's a little confusing being included with the rest of those LTD PS3 software numbers.

Is Brain Age the biggest fall for a franchise ever so far? I remember the first two selling millions of copies...
I'd have to imagine Wii Fit will be up there. Although the way they released the thing makes it hard to tell but its obviously not going to sell 22 million this time around like the original did.

It's those gamers that Nintendo lose in droves to other device and are never going to get back thats really hurting them.

Hmm, the software numbers are just expansions of what creamsugar has posted, with the exception of the three first party Microsoft games, which are from Aaron Greenberg's tweets. I'll go back and check whether creamsugar gave indication for that number.

I think you're right and that was in a separate post to the other software LTDs saying that Just Dance Wii was > 800K > COD PS3 so you're right it may not be an LTD and if so I'll edit in a note.

I thought we have 865 for ps4 based on a percentage change mom, and 1100 3ds based on a nintendo ltd pr.
Hmm, 865 is incongruous with cs saying that the difference was >45K I think. I suppose 863K would fit both Aquamarine and cs's posts.

Regarding the 3DS, that's mixing Nintendo's internal tracking and NPD I think, but I edited in anyway.

I'm sure this has already been mentioned, but the PS3 sales are simply not good at all. It seems that people are moving away from it much sooner than I would have expected. That along with GT6's sales makes it apparent that the PS3 won't see the type of longevity the PS2 had.

In fact, it seems just about every 1st/2nd party game has severely underperformed outside of TLoU and Beyond.

In the United States. That is all the NPD ever tells us. 360 was always more popular in the US and remains so. Not sure what sweeping statements about PS3 health can be gleaned by this info.
