Did creamsugar post Tearaway numbers in the end?

Why should we assume Bayonetta 2 will come out for PS4 when the game is funded by Nintendo?

Also the "this is not hyperbole" remark is quite funny because that post is just about the definition of hyperbole.
It's a joke post based on a post Amirox made when FF13 was announced for the 360.

I'm thinking more along the lines of number of copies sold.

I get the sale of sports games. Basketball is different from hockey is different from football is different from soccer, etc, etc. I do not understand the sale of first person shooters, as the gameplay is nearly identical in all. There are subtle differences, I guess.
You can be that reductionist about every genre if you try hard enough. All 2D platformers are nearly identical. Every Zelda game is basically the same. You can literally continue with this argument for hours as you reduce all of gaming to a few common gameplay mechanics. Everyone's not creative!

What are you talking about? Derrick is the most consistent poster in the world

THIEF is great
Everything else sucks
Especially other stealth games
New THIEF sucks too
Also The Game

In all seriousness, Derrick is fine. At least he doesn't go full doofus for console war madness
The guy who constantly moans that games are dumbed down or that they have terrible level design has said he thinks Mario and Zelda are generic. No consistency.

If SF was a new IP it probably would have been ok and you could only go up. But it's a part of a ever-dwindling costly series that's hasn't proved itself by selling well or moving consoles. What can Sony do that they haven't tried with this franchise to make it worthwhile to keep funding. Why would they still take a loss from it? Being a launch title doesn't reduce the budget. If Killzone was a game published by 3rd party publisher, it would likely been benched already.

An installment released in the height of the PS3 generation and with little competition sells around the same as the installment that is flagship console launch title, enjoying all the hype. ~300K in your debut month in the strongest market for an expensive AAA title doesn't cut it. What would you do that Sony hasn't to have that IP break out? What argument can you present for Sony funding KZ5 instead of funneling that money to a different game?
This is my argument:

Let's take a very extreme made up example.

Sample Game
Released on: System 1.
System 1 sales at time of game release - 3000 units.
Sales of game 1 - 1000 units (33% of userbase)

Sample Game 2 (sequel)
Released on: System 2
System 2 sales at time of game release - 1000 units
Sales of game 2 - 900 units (90% of userbase)

As I said, extreme example. Illustrates however that lower sales don't mean a franchise is declining one you take potential available userbase into account.
I see no reason why Sony wouldn't be happy with SF's sales given that if bundle sales were counted in the numbers, that number would probably be a lot higher given it was in two launch bundles. I still don't understand why you're completely dismissing potential userbase when looking at the sales. Why are you doing that?

I understand and agree with you. I just don't get why that translates to so many sales for FPS games.

I'm pretty sure that's just his unique take on the legendary Amir0x post about FFXIII becoming multiplatform.

Oh, thanks for the info, had no idea, not enough of a regular to realise. Enough of a regular to know Amirox is crazy though :D

The PS4 will likely hit 3 mill by the end of next week with Asia getting around 500k units and being already sold out in the Middle East

When Sony predicted 3 mill for the end of this year they likely ment selling off all their 2013 launch countries stock since the last few 2013 countries are getting theirs next week

Using your own argument, basketball, hockey, football, and soccer are all nearly identical. Team vs team, passing an object from teammate to teammate, scoring by getting said object into a specific zone. Otherwise it's just down to "subtle differences."

I expected better 3DS sales. You guys are missing out on some amazing titles. 3DS' had amazing titles all year, but no you guys just want more Ellen Page games.
But..Beyond tanked.

and I haven't played anything on 3DS that's "amazing" yet. Zelda, Paper Mario and Fire Emblem are nice little games but nothing mindblowing yet.

Wii U numbers are sad, as is the top ten of generic yearly rehashes and posts happy about the Wii U's failure. I miss generations like PS One vs N64 or PS2 vs GC vs Xbox (vs Dreamcast). Consoles used to have diverse, varied line ups, every console was different and had great exclusives. Owning multiple consoles meant having access to many great games. Those wishing for the end of the Wii U and Nintendo in general wish for the death of this diversity.
The only reason that is true, is because of exclusives.

It's a business model that is bad for consumers and the WiiU's failure can only help speed up its demise.

Have you seen anything for Tearaway at all? It's quite-possibly the most vita-centric designed game to date. It wouldn't work on any other system.
I only became aware of the game recently, and it looks awesome. Admittedly I wasn't aware of the games controls, but Sony should keep the franchise alive by making a PSN sequel IMO.

I adore my Vita but I'm not buying Tearaway until there's a deep discount. My memory card is full, I have too big of a backlog already, and I just know there'll be a really good discount on this by the time I come close to getting a chance to play it.

And when I do buy it, it's going to be digital. I'm part of the problem lol.

Is is possible people are tired of buying what is seemingly another Mario game?

Is it possible people saw past the reviews and saw what looked like, and what I think IS, another bland Mario game?

Nintendo really needs to stop putting on their Activision Halloween costume and get back to creating new ideas. As someone who grew up in Nintendo, to me they are nothing but kings of rehashed ideas.
It's not another bland Mario game, but it is another Mario game, which to someone who's played all the Mario 's or plenty of them, may seem repetitive. Hell, franchise stagnation has to kick off at some point. Admittedly Mario may have slower releases than stuff like COD, Assassin's Creed or Halo or whatever, but there's still been just as many if not more of them, and I think it's starting to take its toll.

Personally, I really want to play it, but not enough to buy the Wii U. Outside of the new Mario, not much excites me on it. Especially given multplatform purchases are going elsewhere...

One day we'll stop pretending mario and zelda are fresh with each game. Zelda especially rehashes the same goddamn world as a 20 year old game and plays mostly the same as it. In fact it's actually easier than the original was due to several kind of bad design decisions. It's still a fun game but stop trying to argue it's fresh or unique. That's like saying AC4 is unique because it changed a couple things around.

Your predictions are always horribly wrong and I can't get enough of them. Don't ever stop.

Yeah im sure Nintendo is releasing Zelda games like AC4....this post is all wrong, which is a shame since the avatar is from a good game....

The dichotomy between BF4 being utterly unplayable and having a metacritic avg in the 80s while also being the 2nd best selling title is the poster child for everything that is wrong in today's gaming world.

The problem is that the FPS genre has been greatly narrowed to a certain kind of fast paced FPS.
I mean, back in the days there were FPS a la Turok 2, FPS a la Goldeneye or FPS a la Medal of Honor, the genre was as varied as any other genre.
On the past generation, at least at the beginning, you had games as different as Prey, Condemned, Bioshock, CoD, Battlefield bad company, Darkness...
The huge success of the CoD series among the fact that the development costs of the tech-driven games has risen so much that any other kind of FPS that doesn't follow the CoD stereotipes, except for Bioshock that has a strong enough brand to survive by itself, has become unaffordable.

On the other hand, Nintendo is more risky. Galaxy to 3D-World, Zelda games change some core aspects in each iteration...

It may be impossible to be more wrong in so few words. I mean, have you ever played a Zelda game? This is not a Uncharted - Uncharted 2 - Uncharted 3 kind of evolution, there are more things involved than a graphical update and new assets...

Even if it was on the 3ds it would still tank, people in America only want to play shooters like COD and Battlefield, probably because they fear Obama will "steal" their real guns?

I hope this is sarcasm because otherwise what a humiliating post rofl

Really sad about Tearaway.. like physically sad... in the gut...
I agree. I stared at that 14K number for the longest time trying to get my head around it. Given what a gem Tearaway is (after having played it), I can only imagine that the fault falls on poor marketing. That said, if system sales for the Vita are low and you have a new flagship console releasing at about the same time, I can understand where all the marketing budget went.

I would wish everyone would get a chance to play Tearaway (and buy it to support MM) but given how dependent it is on back touch the only way that will happen is if everyone buys a Vita.

But I know there are more than 14K Vita owners around NA. I can only assume that PS4 was their first priority and that Tearaway will be a future purchase. Hopefully not too future.

Just release Tearaway on the PS3/PS4 at 1080p/60fps and hey presto, you get your 100k+ sales.

At the same time, all of those shooters are muliplatform where the games you mentioned are all one devise exclusives. I would multiply each number by 4 to get a better gage on what they would sell if they were multiplatform.
If you multiply by 4 only Mario would get into top 10.

What would you consider amazing handheld games?
Lately? I don't know. I don't think a handheld game can really impress me anymore. They either feel like safe iterations on a franchise or C tier copies of a console game (this is mostly a Sony problem). We'd have to go back to the game boy advance era to find the last handheld game that blew me away, but things were a lot different back then.

Yeah im sure Nintendo is releasing Zelda games like AC4....this post is all wrong, which is a shame since the avatar is from a good game....
A rehash is a rehash regardless of how many years it took to release. You're focusing on the yearly release aspect which is not what I was talking about.

If they had delayed Tearaway to January it would have done so much better imo, as a Vita owner who was also buying a PS4 I didn't have the cash to buy anything else this holiday so I'll be picking it up soon :/

If Mario sells that much in December, DK sales in February will be hilarious.

I think Nintendo's obsession with local play is the reason why we didn't get Galaxy 3, Mario world is an all around inferior product compared to Galaxy games. It deserves the sales it got.

Ugh I had forgotten how NPD threads were so disappointing since they decided to hide the numbers. How can we have a proper console wars without solid numbers to spin back and forth. :(

Yes I know I'm way LTTP.

Media molecule is just as suitable for Sony as Rare is to Ms...

And no way to play major parts of the game.

You have the most boring taste in games I've ever seen. What do you even like besides Obsidian and Deus Ex?

Poor marketing? Dude its a Vita game. The best marketing team in the world couldn't sell Tearaway. Not in November at least. If its an IP worth anything Sony will port it to a viable platform.

Not according to most reviews...but hey, now its that time where these are to be ignored to make a point...

I disagree with that to be honest. As a vita owner, who plays his vita a lot at that, I see Tearaway as a game that is guaranteed to be on PS+ at some point in the not too distant future. It's also not a game I'm dying to play or anything so I will happily wait out the 6 months or whatever it takes for it to pop up.

I imagine there are plenty of other people with a similar thought process.

I'm personally still waiting for MS to buy off every major third party game because they "can". But not only did they not do that at all, each of the major games sold way more on PS4.
You do understand that the PS4 being out for a week longer is a huge reason that the games sold more on it, right?
