NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 could be the new Titan

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 could be the new Titan with 384-bit 24 GB GDDR6X VRAM and 350 W TGP; GA102 Founders Editions cards with an expensive cooling system to be based on the PG133 board

An image of what appears to be the purported RTX 3080's heatsink has leaked online indicating that NVIDIA will be introducing a new dual-fan mechanism with a huge cooling block and at least four heat pipes with the upcoming Ampere GPUs. The top-end GA102 GPU will use the PG133 board for the Founders Edition of the RTX 3090, RTX 3080 Ti, and RTX 3080, which will use the new cooling system while AiBs are supplied with the PG132 board that allows for custom cooling designs.

We've reported about alleged pictures of the upcoming NVIDIA RTX 3080 cards that showed a unique cooling design with fans placed on opposite sides of the card. Those pictures showed an irregular PCB with the fan now being placed closer to the actual GPU. While it was initially not clear if the pictures were real or fake, NVIDIA has apparently launched an internal investigation with a focus on contract manufacturers Foxconn and Build Your Dreams (BYD) who were tasked with making the Founders Edition card. This means that those pictures could indeed be real.

While it is possible that NVIDIA may make some changes before the official unveil later this year, Igor's Lab has learned that all three GeForce Ampere Founders Edition cards that will launch will be based on the PG133 circuit board with the main differentiators being VRAM and board power. While the Founders Edition cards will have an additional cutout for the new cooling setup, a PG132 board without the cutout is being offered to add-in board (AiB) partners for possibly custom cooling solutions. Igor's Lab cites sources that claim that the Founders Edition's construction and the cooler put together alone costs US$150.

A newly leaked heatsink design of the RTX 3080 (see image below) without the shroud indicates that this could actually be a clever design. Since there are now two fans, one each at the front and back of the card, the fins in the middle could actually help the fans push air more efficiently over the heatsinks. It remains to be seen how well this design actually translates into real-world cooling efficiency. We also see that there are at least four heatpipes that arise from the huge cooling block.

According to Igor's Lab, we may see an RTX 3090 with a 350 W TBP as the flagship card. The RTX 3090 could, in fact, be a rebranded Titan. Or, NVIDIA may introduce it under the Titan moniker itself with a new marketing name. That part is still unconfirmed for now. Igor's Lab also says that we may see both an RTX 3080 with 10 GB of 320-bit GDDR6X and an RTX 3080 Ti with 11 GB of 352-bit GDDR66X RAM.

Both these cards seem are so near in specs, so it is very well possible that NVIDIA would introduce some differentiation between them if at all both these cards see the light of the day at once. Also, we haven't heard about other implementations of GDDR6X yet so the memory type still should be taken with a pinch of salt.

Considering his source's information that GA102 on the PG132 reference board will have a total graphics power (TGP) of 350 W, Igor's Lab managed to deduce that the GPU power alone would be approximately 230 W taking into account power consumed by the 24 GB GDDR6X VRAM, MOSFETs for GPU voltage, framebuffer voltage, AUX, fans, and PCB loss.

While Im hyped for the new gpu's, this time I'm going to have to wait and see some heavy benchmarks vs the new consoles. Im not rich enough to buy a console and a new gpu and my 2080 is still doing fine.

I would love to get one but probably will just get a 3080Ti, All remain to be seen, specially the prices

U must be joking. A gpu worth more than ps5+x sx together?

It is a different beast, you can use these graphic cards for a lot of other things other than gaming, it is not really the same thing, also with the 3090 if the leaks are real you almost can think about 4k 100+ FPS (I don't trust these leaks to be fair)

That 10gb for the 3080 is really scary.
I hope they're not stupid enough to release the 3060 with 6gb ram because that would practically mean the card is DOA.

I woulda waited, Ampere is meant to have WAY better raytracing performance.

I had figured as much I had gotten a i9900k as well and then two days later the new ones dropped with like couple more cores. Eh I’ll ride it out I got that and 32gb of ram so I should be coasting for a while.

Always good to do a lil research before purchases! Though ofc a 2080 ti is still a beast.

I really dont know what to do, upgrade the 1080ti or buy a PS5.
Damn pricing of the new cards, they are sure to high, dont see any suprise coming from the price tag.

I've heard curious explanation for why 3090: from marketing perspective, Huang will take 3090 getting beaten easier, than if it is called Titan.

Curious that 3080 listed with 10GB, the render of the GPU have shown 8 RAM chips.

Same situation and card here, it's a matter of games to me. If DS remake releases way before Elden Ring (6+ months lets say) i'll probably gonna go ps5, if not, 3080. But im not interested in any other ps5 title so it may be different for other people

This Card is going to be 3 times an Xbox series X for sure it's going to cost 1000$, but at this price is a Bargain

By naming it 3090 instead of titan they give the normal 3080ti buyer the feeling of not getting the top of the line card. Normally you would use a titan not for gaming and the different name somewhat distanced it from their gaming cards. I think the 3080Ti will be 899$ and the 3090 1299$ or something like that.

Well the x90 lineup was originally used for 2 gpu cards. the last one i can remember was the 690 and before that 590.

So maybe its a 2 gpu die card.

They better up their perf/$ hard, else they can piss off. If the major differentiating factor vs consoles is simply gonna be down to how many rays they shoot but still charge >$1k and have gimped vram amounts? That's trash. I have no issue waiting around & snagging 2nd hand deals. The minimum they need to do next-gen is ~2080ti performance for $500.

Curious how close 3090 and Titan are, ain't it?

I wonder how big are those, given that BIg Navi is only 505mm2.
