Yup, I think there is some king of truth in all this. After all these posts of releif I can't imagine the shit storm if the real is not that different from the fake.

I can't imagine it being very different., honestly. Something close to a smartphone is the obvious path they would take.

It will probably be a mix of specific touch control and some physical buttons like a Wiimote/DS mix.
Probably throw in a Pro Controller design for the purists.
Edit: Most arguments here take me back to Wii. People dismissing motion control. Fun times...

Good job dude.

Quickly made a gif of your other video, which is now fitting:

I'm still confused with Rostis post. He was saying Nintendo was upset by these leaks? Maybe the actually controller is somewhat similar

he didn't know anything. Even if someone did have a prototype the nda would prevent them from saying anything (even acknowledging its existence)

If you search post history, I scoffed at the first image. When I saw these images I somehow instantly knew that they were legit images of a thing that existed but I refused to conclude in my brain that it was Nx.

Regardless, that a gaffer actually had an entire 3D modeling shop and easily made probably the most elaborate fake the internet or nintendo has ever seen...man...the guy deserves a tag not a ban. No one will ever ever believe leaks after this thread, and thats a once in a lifetime thread. Bravo.

The second one was Rösti's comments about people at Nintendo getting nervous about these leaks. Which again doesn't make too much sense unless this fake is somehow vaguely close to the real one.

Well, to be fair, I can completely see why people at Nintendo would be nervous about these leaks. Because I had people in the office ranting about Nintendo over the last couple days. These are guys in their 30-40's, some with kids, that you would call "average" gamers, they don't typically go to gaming sites (but do frequent tech sites, etc.) that were now convinced that Nintendo has finally gone completely nuts. A few of them have Wii U's (which they never use, I hear about it all the time) that they bought based solely on the brand and they thought that design was reaching at best. With these leaks they were utterly convinced that Nintendo was gone forever.

I actually had people that wouldn't know one dev studio from another, telling me that Nintendo needs to "just make games for the PC, PS4 and Xbox already". I was a little shocked to see such a reaction out of people that really don't follow the industry at all, just based on a "leaked" piece of hardware.

...and yes it was based mostly on the "virtual buttons".

So, I can see Nintendo being worried because it potentially really damaged their brand in this vulnerable time for them when they have nothing to show people. I can also see them being very worried at the negative reaction of a lot of people, if the real design has any of the features people were really disliking.

My guess is that the actual NX controller is very different, probably a lot more traditionnal, and Nintendo is worried the gaming community will get angry at these "leaks" because they don't represent the shift from previous products (the Wii systems and branding) Nintendo hinted at and is working towards.

At least that's why I would want Nintendo to be concerned for.

I hope Nintendo slows down a bit on trying to innovate on hardware, and instead gets back to pour all that creativity and genius design on innovating in software.

This is Nintendo at its best for me.

People used to gaming always dismiss anything different than a normal controller as shit. Not only this is very close minded, but I'm still amazed people expect nintendo to use a normal controller for their next console.
Or to be more powerful that a ps4 but that's another matter.

The legacy of this thread probably means there are going to be more NX "leaks" in the foreseeable future.

Nah, if anything when the actual NX leaks no one will believe it. Someone will say something looks odd and everyone will agree it's just another fake, and then a few weeks later they show it on E3 and everyone will be dumbfounded. And that's gonna be awesome!

Still, a Nintendo official reveal will reach a much bigger audience than this leak. It will really be reported everywhere, including the mainstream media. As you say, they bought Wii U and that was like the anticlimax of the reveals and advertising. So, as I said, a bit strange.

The official Nintendo statements about how NX will provide a new way to play still exists even beyond these fakes. So I wouldn't bet too much on a traditional console.

misdirection lel

edit: also kankki, i wonder what's your reaction when the discussion is about the trees at one point?

I was laughing through the whole thing :D Insane that some people even had matched it to some roof boards in Bergsala, Sweden.

Really interesting video, it's cool what you can do with 3d printers, technology is amazing.

Loved watching the screen be cut, what type of device is that? Is it controlled by the computer/software you created the design in?

It's a CNC CO2 laser cutting machine. You can basically cut any vector shape :) Exported the face from Fusion 360 to a DXF and brought it into the laser cutting program.

This seriously just made my week (the whole thing).

So.... WAS it your face in the reflection of the monitor on the screen? I made a joke post about the head being on there and people were literally head hunting poor Massive!

I would certainly hope so.

Yep, it's my head. I honestly didn't even see it until some guys here pointed it out. It's a double reflection from the Samsung TV

Nice detective work :D

You got me there. Really good job, which shows me that I shouldn't believe any Leaks from sources that are not well known as leakers. Especially in this in this day and age, where it's seemingly so easy to 3D print things like this and put some glass on it. I was fascinated by both the 3D printer and the Laser Cutter. This is also the 1st time I have seen a Laser Cutter in action, so this is some impressive stuff.

Good job dude.

Hah, yeah, we actually make and sell those glasses. I was wondering if I should have them on in the video but decided against it. But you can see them on the laser cutter lid in the video where I put them down :p

It might be shocking to you, but most people don't go to Nintendo for revolutionary peripherals or control schemes. Nintendo is comfort food, they go to Nintendo because of their IPs, not their technology, or some wacky new way to control it. Nintendo is successful despite their quirky hardware, not because of it.

There is only evidence that the original picture was made and manipulated with photoshop. There is no evidence that the controller itself, which is supported by official patents, is fake.

It all might be part of a viral marketing campaign funded by Nintendo, and the above video supports that.

The no buttons thing pretty much tipped me off to this being fake because no way nintendo is that stupid to do something like that especially after the failure of the Wii U.

I feel like Nintendo should be happy. They get more headline news

They want to attract other people than regular self proclaimed gamers, and that's what they'll do once again.
Nintendo is only successful when they manage to do so. A traditional controller will not make a nintendo console successful. It's not really hard to get. Regular gamers won't sustain a nintendo cnsole alone.

Basically what happened with Smash. So many fake leaks that has been dismantled that when a real leak came about it was dismissed because of similar mistakes.

Maybe, I don't know.

On one hand, getting people talking about their next system is great, because it's likely they'll announce it soon and ride that wave of excitement.

On the other hand, I feel like these fakes clearly proved that core gamers are tired of Nintendo's gimmicks, and if they are aiming at a new one this time around, all of this "hate" towards their sense of innovation might very well translate to the new gimmick they found and believe in for this generation.

Put the Kool-Aid down.

People don't have to speculate how touchscreens feel, everyone already knows. You don't have to give it a chance in order to know if you like it better or worse than phyiscal buttons.

Like anything..Like the Dual Shock 4 for example, technology evolves. There isn't a defacto design.

Earlier in the thread i think we started to have a good discussion about the pros and cons of the fake created, I understand why and i have concerns myself about touch buttons, but i'm willing to try what they put out rather than outright dismissing it from the start.

I think that half the issue, there is a lot of people dismissing anything New as shite. Which is unfair. And i get why Nintendo could be nervous because gamers are a dismissive bunch, not just on hardware but also games as well ( see all the shite aimed at indies and 'walking simulators'). But more often than not we are wrong as well. Someone earlier in the thread made reference to this:

The gaming community were:
wrong about DS
wrong about Wii
50/50 about 3ds
right about wiiu

wrong about mobile gaming
50/50 about psp (leaning to wrong, but it did very good in the end, mostly because of it's success in japan)
wrong about vita

And also we act like the boy who cried wolf. We whinge and moan at everything. Reggie mentioned this himself in regard to the general responses to the Super Mario 3D World, Donkey Kong TF, Splatoon etc Reveals.

I just wish people were more open to new ideas rather than jumping in with the pitchforks. If they do go touch screen? I really hope they have found a way to make them reliable, have a presence, responsive and tactile. If so there are some very good pros to why they would want to pursue this.

kankki, thanks for the in-depth video. While the original guy's video mostly made me crack up, your own was incredibly insightful on the world of DIY.

I was one of the people clamoring on how both versions looked too good to be 3D printed or photoshopped (with the exception of the reddit guy's cropped in-game screenshot).

Did you expect it to look that good in the end and bear such a resemblance to the original fake? Man, I may never trust another leak of this nature again.

Great response. Judging it based on what tablets and phones have seems a bit silly. Going back and playing DS touch games and yeah there is a huge difference between that and what we have now.
Bring on the NX, hope it is not traditional.
