"only"

9.2TF is by no means bad. My £750 pc GPU is "only" 10.1TF

That kind of power in a console is amazing and it will be a huge step up over PS4.

People obsess to much by numbers. If you buy a PS5 I'm sure you'll be happy with it...unless you're one of the obsessed. In which case, why not just go build a PC if you want the best performance???

God this is getting tiresome now.

Who really cares? People certainly won't when they are playing Bloodbourne 2 or the next Spiderman. At that point even IF the Xbox was more powerful no one will give a shit. Just look at the Xbox One X. Most powerful console with pretty much fuck all exclusives to play.
Based on the amount of threads, videos, and haste at which it’s all pumping, the interest seems to be at critical mass.

The real world outcome is another matter however.

9.2 in a closed system is fucking a massive jump from the PS4 and Pro, not including the drastically better CPU. This with Sony's studios will produce some good shit. I don't understand the "oh noes" from some folks. It's good shit.
Exactly.

Whether it's 9 or 12, half the gamers seem to just look at the raw TF number, but forget the cpus are better, SSD, more ram, faster ram.

It would be like claiming our fam's old ass 486/66 mhz only being twice as fast as our old 386/33 mhz.

Looking only at the hz, ya it's only double. But the cpu is way better and our 486 also had double the ram (I think it was 8 vs 4).

Lets not forget the pro and x are barely used for their potential other than running current games prettier.
There was not a single game that was designed just for these consoles.
I got the upgrade due to my 4k tv but they are both a big waste of potential.

The new consoles be it 9 or 12 will be fully utilized and thats what counts.

Where there’s smoke there’s fire, so many wanted to run with the Lockheart 4 teraflop Rumor. You don’t get to cut the cake both ways.

To be honest, that first PS5 game trailer that was released in december (forgot the games name) looks pretty shallow. If the PS5 is significantly slower then the next xbox, I guess I will skip the next console generation alltogether. Maybe get a Switch Pro if this thing becomes real.

Even if its 9.2 vs 12 tgats about 29% difference . Ps4 was 40% more powerful than x1 and x1x was 45% more powerful than pro.so this is he smallest difference even if its true which the video says it isnt . So i dont know where u get the significant part from

I have to ask … do we really need like, 10 fucking threads talking about the same fucking thing? Let's have one thread about the 9.2 TFs PS5, and post all our findings there, since some people obviously don't want to post these links on the 'major' next gen thread we already have.

I'm not a flop evangelist, just a simple man. In my simple brain, 9 flops is significantly less then 12 flops.

EDIT: It'll all boil down to how 3rd party games perform on the PS5. If the PS5 to the XBX is like the PS4 against the XBO, I'll not buy a PS5. I remember the XBO running cod ghosts at 720P whereas the PS4 managed to run it at full HD. I will not tolerate such a huge difference.

If the PS5 is 'barely better' than the X1X, then the series X is 'barely better' than the PS5.

Gatcha.
no, there is a huge difference.
but wait there is more: Xbox series X has also other power advantages over PS5, like dedicated hardware cores for ray tracing - PS5 uses GPU resources for that. Also, Xbox Series X has a dedicated chip for Variable Rate Shading

So, in total, the difference will be HUGE! It’s like a generational difference between those two!
Much bigger difference than EVER between Sony and MS.

also, people don’t get the Point. It’s also about the mindset. Again, MS has the strongest console. If they are the same price and there are no exclusive games at LAUNCH for PS5, why would people buy PS5 at launch?

This. Also, anything more than that will result in a very expensive console that is either big or hot and loud.

People have different opinions but I know what I prefer. Exclusives on a system like that will look incredible and blow us away.

You have no idea how the PS5 will handle VRS and RT. Stop taking information from your ass and wait for official info before shouting from the rooftops. What are you, eight?

I've actually seen some people claim that the github data is incorrect, as the results pertaining to the 9.2tf performance are due to a typo in the report (or test data).

Obviously they weren't going to make pro and x exclusive games and abandon their current userbase. They made that clear.

There is but one caveat smoking man. Diminishing returns. At these levels the differences are most likely Digital Foundry magnifying glass territory. Hope I'm right in this regard.

Problems with percentages? Fine it can happen to all ;). Not that I am buying there is such wide difference.

but wait there is more: Xbox series X has also other power advantages over PS5, like dedicated hardware cores for ray tracing - PS5 uses GPU resources for that.
You seem to be convinced of this for reasons apparently you only know (you’re welcome to share them though) and it is particularly pointless given the fact this is an SoC so having extra GPU resources or dedicated hardwired RT cores (which is nVIDIA’s solution, not AMD’s given AMD GPU parents and what they have said for the last few years) would not make much difference anyways as the space is fixed and you can fill it with any compute resource you want (unless your fantasy has one console with an obscenely bigger die).

Also, Xbox Series X has a dedicated chip for Variable Rate Shading
No, I do not think so :).
You do not need an extra chip for this, it is just a feature of the existing GPU (where effectively the rendering resolution can vary/be lower or higher on a per object basis and it has the drawback of being less efficient as the polygon counts get higher and thus their relative size gets smaller ... PS4 Pro does something similar, at a considerably more coarse granularity, with support for free multiple viewports and multi resolution render targets/MRRT used in games such as Robinson: The Journey to divide the screen in sectors rendered at different resolutions).

So, in total, the difference will be HUGE! It’s like a generational difference between those two!
Much bigger difference than EVER between Sony and MS.
We will see... that it won’t be like that ;).

In such scenario, PS5 would likely be a lot cheaper and it would have exclusive games at launch, so I guess you answered yourself ;)?

Keep in mind that increases in GPU TFlops have diminishing marginal returns. A 29% increase from PS3 to PS4 would be more noticeable on the screen than PS4 to PS5.

The CPU should provide better world simulation; physics, AI, damage, materials. And direct memory access to SSD should provide greater variety in density and scope.

No more indestructible pot plants and vases.

Exactly. The average consumer wouldn’t have a single clue what any of this means. When they walk in the game store on launch weekend and see Master Chief banners and hopefully God of War or Spider-man banners that’s how they’ll make their decisions.

huh? Cerny himself that there is only GPU accelerated RT. He NEVER said that there are going to be dedicated hardware cores for RT.
If they would use that, they would say that and not hardware accelerated.

Simple man indeed.

First you say that 9 is significantly less than 12, and you hated 720p xbox games situation on current gen.

And then talk about getting possible switch pro instead.

If you care so much about tflops and resolution, why would you think that getting "switch pro" would be even an option? Because if it comes, it most likely is barely faster than switch which is like 1/4 of xbox one s tflops.

Switch pro would most likely be 1-2tflops machine at most. Switch is and will be many levels slower and worse system if/when they keep the current handheld form factor.

Even 9tflops with other improvements is enough to have 4k games, and nothing is official yet anyway.

12tflops on xbox means nothing if their game lineup is as bad as it have been

RT cores on 2080ti are same as "hardware accelerated".

It is just RT done by hardware, not software/cpu/shaders, so it doesnt mean of what you are implying if he uses "hardware accelerated" wording.

It just means hardware support aka some kind of pure RT solution

People who say stuff like "9tf is enough to have 4k games" make me laugh...

You know, 0.5tf is enough to have 4k games. And 20tf is nowhere near enough to have 1080p games.

You cant just make blanket statements like this.

Also, NXGamer is up there with Kotaku for being known as a Pro Sony site, and seeing as everybody cries that Rich from DF has a tattoo saying "MSDong" on his cock, I thought it best to be mentioned. You know, to even the playing field.

As for the 9tf vs 12tf, I said a long time ago, the power difference is nothing. As you get higher up with fidelity, the power gaps you need for anything significant increases A LOT. So, if Sony come in at 9tf but $100 less... Then MS are going to be ice skating uphill big time.

yeah but its still annoying those games wont be on a more powerful console

every PS exclusive i play on Pro i wish the console was more powerful to push out more than measly 1440p.

its not always about comparing to Xbox, its also about console itself could/should be more powerful

Well said and with microsoft working hard on new IP's.

If rumours are true.
I can see a forced early ps5 pro

These leaks are just marketing, sending a line to see what the people think......Who panics and who does not, we all have to wait.....Some people are saying they're buying XBOX because of this, when nothing is confirmed 11 months before launch.....It's crazy, I don't even think preorders are up yet......Yep, it's definitely the PR machine in play.....MS uses every opportunity for PR to change their outlook and this is what it is......

no, there is a huge difference.

Hold your horses Pana, a bit too much hyperbole, so it means you're just baiting...….

Why would people buy the PS5? For games, games, games......A generational leap between PS5 and Series X, reminds me of the hyperbole of XBONEX vs PRO, it never works Pana,,,All of this sounds like the same marketing machine MS used for X......Just do a reality check, hype vs reality.....PS4 installbase vs XBOX..
