Oblivion PC system reqs announced

This can more or less sometimes be true

Like I said, I'm getting a 360 and im not upgrading my system anytime soon. I dont wanna worry more about the performance of the game than actually playing it, which is what undeniably happens at some point with PC Gaming....
 
Borys do you remember the recommended specs for Morrowind and how well it ran back then? I bet the recommendes spec here is playable, yes just that. Minimum spec has more or less allways been bareable playable with awful framerates and skips... atleast in the PC world.

And people like lukkas who suggest that you need a 1kUSD HDTV to take advantage of the graphics in the Xbox 360 version... ever heard about the VGA cable? No? 20USD(shipped from lik-sang among other places) + your computer monitor. Thats it!

And about mods etc. I will get the pc version when I see any worthwhile mod.. when that happens Oblivion will probably be under 20USD and hopefully I will have a computer that can boot up the game. Until then I see no reason to get the PC version unless you hate Xbox 360 for whatever bizarre reason.
 
Perhaps Bethsoft learned from Morrowind and provided more realistic system requirements this time?

Anyway, we'll see when it is finally released

Yeah that's why 6800 is a recommended spec. There's always 6800U, 6800 SLI, 7800, 7800 GTX and 7800 SLI if you think the game runs too slow on recommended hardware.

Until then I see no reason to get the PC version unless you hate Xbox 360 for whatever bizarre reason.

My Xbox 360 displays the game in retro RPG mode, which covers up all imperfections and creates a darker, dreamlike mood.

How do you know all that? I think most of the vid cards on that list could handle this game at 720P resolution. I mean to be fair you couldnt max all the PC versions options then have the 360 version running at half the resolution the PC version is capapble of outputing. If the PC version was capped to run at the 360's rez most cards on that list would atleast stay at 30fps.

Now if the game runs like shit because bethseba isnt the most efficient programming staff the world has ever known thats another thing. Friggin morrowind loved eating up every resource it could find, fast system or not there were alot of bugs in that game that later got patched.

Xbox 360 version isnt supposed to run in super high resolution. Amount of ROPS and other crap in the GPU arent tuned for that kind of a task. No shit that an equivalent PC will probably run better in very high resolutions.

Teknopathetic, I allready addressed the mod community thing. See my reply of no worthwhile mods for a while. Also since when are patches some kind of a bonus? Hopefully and most probably initially the Xbox 360 version will have less bugs than the equivalent PC version. So you see you get a few patches allready applied on day one for the Xbox 360 version while you have to wait a little for PC version :lol

EQ2 would be my guess. And if they arent, they need to be, even the fastest computers are brought to their knees with that engine. Especially on the ultra whatever experimental setting they have.

No worthwhile mods for a while (and it's quite premature to say this) is still better than 0 mods at all.

That's a stretch of an assumption. Morrowind on Xbox didn't have a large amount of bug fixes despite being released a month later.

...what? who said anything about very high resolutions? i said most vid cards on the list could run the game just fine with all effects on at xbox 360 resolutions....I said nothing about an equivalent PC.

You are just assuming that right? PC gfx cards scale much better than consoles when you up the resolution. But it does not necessary mean that they will run it good to begin with. And I dont doubt that the most highend and highend gfx cards on the list probably can run it better than Xbox 360.. but you cant achieve that kind of performance if you dont have RAM and CPU to match it!! Of course I am speculating here... I havent seen the game in action yet! :lol

Let's look at two important facts.
Xenon is a card generation ahead of the Geforce 7800 line.
x360 has three cores with 2 threads each. All of which have been confirmed to be used by Oblivion.
My wish has already come true.

I'm wondering though... why do you pc gamers keep pointing to mods for salvation? How about playing what's already in the game and exploring all the features and locales that Bethesda made themselves? As is, this game is so beefy that mods are simply fluff for later months anyway. There's no urgency for them right now. So why not play the game at the best possible optimization, which is on the x360, during your first-playthrough. If you don't have a x360, but do have a PC that can run it then go with that. However, if you own a decent PC and an x360, why ruin your first experience by going PC?

Official mods aren't quite what I mean. :) Stuff like the texture packs, hi res models, etc. etc.

But I will concede that there aren't 0 mods at all. There's 1 mod.

I was in here celebrating the fact that the release of PC requirements means the game will be gold soon. I simply corrected you on your statement that a Geforce 6600 will run and look better than the 360 version. You are giving a lot of false hope to people with your PC elitism.

I'm hardly an xbot, I've acknowledged over and over that the PC version will ultimately be the better version. I'm going to buy it myself for sure. You, however, refuse to concede anything even in the face of facts. A Geforce 6600 < Xenon.

Architecturally it might be a "half generation" ahead, but heck, there are mobile GPUs out there with unified shaders of which you could say the same thing. That's a very different point to performance, though, which is the more important point to boot. There are PC cards available now that are appreciably more powerful than Xenos.
 
Will I actually get good performance with:

AMD Athlon 64 3000+
2 GB Ram
Radeon X800

Stevemeister? Or is this a case of "recommended" = "well, you can play it, but not with the bells and whistles going". Im firmly in the recommended specs category, but this shit always worries me. Thanks in advance.

That doesn't make me feel better. Those fucking collectors editions are total bullshit scams if you ask me. There is no way they justify another 10 bucks.

The standard 360 version should be 50 bucks, just like the PC version.

X800 and 6800, while still decent cards are still getting old :-p. It really depends on what the difference between high details and medium would be, ultimately. I wouldn't be surprised if Oblivion, if it looks as good as the movies, etc. we've seen (not those crappy screenshots posted in this thread) really gave the business to a 6800.

Granted, both images look pretty lousy because of the image quality.. but the downgraded effects is pretty apparent.
 
When's this getting released? I'm still running off my "temporary" RAM (512MB) in my new PC :lol I need time to plan an upgrade to 2GB.

Are we sure we are not just looking at the game running on "medium" details. The screenshots look the same minus HDR lighting.

Personally I don't really mind, Framerate > details.

More like - it was never meant to look as in the first pic.

From what I gathered (SteveMeister correct me if I'm wrong) the game DID look like on the first pic with self-shadowing and shadowing on all objects - characters, buildings and items (chairs, tables, clothes, apples, kinves etc.) but it chopped at ungodly 0.1 FPS on even the most ungodly PCs out there (not to mention the much weaker 360s).

So they took it out and left the shadows /-ing only on characters.

If I am lying then please correct me MrSmileyFaceDude.

And that's exactly why I've written my posts to read as pure speculation, because that's what it is.

That doesn't really explain all the videos of the game that looked comparable to original screenshots and ran well.
 
Other than the 6600 not being listed at all, i pretty much just hit the "recommended" specs (sempron 3100+, 1Gb of ram, 6600GT).

Mind you, i'll probably get it for the 360 anyway, and wait until i can get the PC version cheap some time in the future, when i've upgraded a few times and there's a nice selection of mods available.

I'm pining Boyrs. Pining for some new gaming goodness. Waiting is hard to say the least. I ditched my Xbox and Gamecube because I have been spoiled by my 360 - and I don't really play the PC anymore. I do have Battlefield 2, but I find I can't play it since I will wake up my son from getting too zealous while playing.

Hmm... in that case get Ghost Recon: AW and well, Oblivion. Try to scoop some Oblivion deal, maybe with some coupons or rabates? $60 is just too much, I agree.
