Artificial framing. It's a witch hunt. You opened a thread calling out a specific user with the premise that they are racist. That's a terrible way of beginning a conversation.

Worse yet, because you didn't back up your assertions -- not even defining racism and backing up the statements in your own OP -- JordanN walked all over you.
I opened the thread because this was the only allowed way for me to answer (and it also was not healdined as antagonistic as it is now), not because I like to do it like that. And I did define racism, just not in the op, because I did not assume that there was so much disagreement about the definition of the term.

I brought it up as an opportunity for you to reflect on your own poor record when it comes to correctly identifying things. I could've used any number of examples, like your hamfisted arguments about the electoral college.
I do not know what you are on about. I still think that the forum is right-leaning and that the electoral college as it is right now is a net negative. You have different opinions (where the difference is actually astounding to me in the former case, but understandable in the latter), that is all.
Saying something that isn't popular doesn't make you brave for doing it.
I did not call it brave, just not spineless. There is a large gulf between spineles and brave.
I'm calling you spineless because -- in spite of your occasional dramatic flourishes of "bravery" aimed at fellow GAFers and at the forum's reputation -- you continue to champion for the forum that cast you aside, ERA. All of your bravery is an act performed safely on GAF's stage because this forum allows people to speak their minds without being banned.
So it is spineless to not think Resetera is a shithole? It is spineless to not stand for your opinion, it is not spineless to have an opinion DDD disagrees with.

Making assumptions which undermine your argument, arguing for awhile against counterevidence, and then eventually backing off and claiming you didn't know any better is your pattern.

In the case of the thread, failing to back up your accusation undermined your argument significantly.

And because of the weight of the accusation -- that JordanN is a racist -- failing to back it up just makes you look like a petty name-caller. You plead with GAF to not hold an ex-mod on an outside website responsible for their words. Yet, you simultaneously defend doing this to a fellow GAFer under far more specious reasoning.

I do not know what you are on about. I still think that the forum is right-leaning and that the electoral college as it is right now is a net negative. You have different opinions (where the difference is actually astounding to me in the former case, but understandable in the latter), that is all.
It is clear that you do not know what I am on about, even when I explain it plainly. You lack introspection.

I did not call it brave, just not spineless. There is a large gulf between spineles and brave.

Pedantry is spineless. Hypocrisy is spineless. Intentionally misrepresenting your opponent's argument and then backing away when it doesn't work is spineless. I don't hold up my own personal opinion as a standard. I hold up standards of logic, formal debate, mutual respect, and introspection as the standard. On these points, you routinely fail which is why your arguments often fall back to making personal pleas for yourself and appealing to the righteous intention of your actions.

I do not plead on not holding him accountable for what he said, I said he took the consequences and that it was just one insensible posting in a bad circumstance. What kind of accountability is there for him to take, other than to step back as a mod?

You name a couple of things we disagree on, claim that my arguments were hamfisted and want that I reflect on that. I do not see how my arguments were hamfisted at all and thus, there is not much to reflect on.
Pedantry is spineless. Hypocrisy is spineless.
To be spineless means to not stand for your convictions and to subjugate to outside pressure or perceived authority or who avoid confrontation.
I don't hold up my own personal opinion as a standard.
Then try to find an example for the great injustice you are talking about where we are in agreement on the topic. Because I get the strong impression that it is your personal opinion you hold up as your standard.
I hold up standards of logic, formal debate, mutual respect, and introspection as the standard.
I deem it unlikely you will be able to teach me on logic or formal debate (though I am of course open to new insights), but in terms of mutual respect and introspection there could be potential. It would require more than "think about thing X where we disagreed and introspect". This is so unspecific that it can hardly be of any use.

Always claiming to be the willing student, curious and interested in exploring new viewpoints.

Unless there's an opportunity to virtue-signal. Then you go right into self-righteousness mode. You probably get the strong impression that it is my personal opinion I hold up as standard because it would be too terrifying to take a look outside of your bubble and examine your failings. Cognitive dissonance sure is uncomfortable.

Your conviction of going on witch hunts, which is when I called you out. You fail to stand for it when you engage in witch hunts.
My conviction is that it is unwarranted to harass people for single bad postings they took rsponsibility for or to dig on mud for other people without any good reason. Which is what I call "starting a witch hunt". I do not do that with JordanN, even though what I do with JordanN is something you might classify as a witch hunt.

The most disgusting thread on Resetera ever. I am outraged! :messenger_pouting:
I am shocked that they are not calling out the Sega Master System for glorifying slavery

It is spineless to continue stanning for the place that cast you out like an ideological leper on the place that actually lets you post your dissenting opinions, all the while labelling it “right leaning”, which is an insult to you types. If freedom of speech makes us right wing then fuck it, we’re right wing. Be careful who you cede that moral ground to, though.

Maybe the issue is that you try to be empathical to your fantasy verion of me? Right leaning is no insult. For a forum it merely means that the majority of people (who post about political issues) on the board are right-leaning. If I said "Nazi forum" or "racist forum", then that would be an insult, because being a nazi or a racist is outside of the acceptable political realm. But in a democracy, dissenting opinions must be able to exist and be tolerated (within a certain window, as you said earlier today!).
If freedom of speech makes us right wing then fuck it, we’re right wing.
No, freedom of speech does not make the forum right leaning. It could have the same rules it has now and be a left leaning community, i f the majority of people (who post about political issues) were left leaning. Which is not the case.
It is spineless to continue stanning for the place that cast you out like an ideological leper on the place that actually lets you post your dissenting opinions
Not joining in on a blind hate train is not stanning for them.

It's a games forum if someone wants a left or right leaning political forum then go to a political forum

Why are games forums getting destroyed by political crap when the reason to be in a games forum is shockingly...... for games news/chat and media.
Amen. I was so glad to see politics had gotten split into it's own area here. That helps a lot (especially since you can now just ignore/hide the whole sub-forum). I wish the political/social issues in gaming threads had their own sub-forum (or got moved to Politics), but at least I can hide them with the ignore feature now-along with the too prevalent console/fanboy bickering crap that seems to have gotten worse lately (to be expected as we head into a new generation next year I suppose). Easy enough to just stick to game news/previews/reviews and Game OTs threads and much less drama in most of those than on places like Era.

It used to be like that. But a few years ago some people decided to forcefully involve videogames in the culture war and things went to hell quickly. Once that happened people took sides and once people take sides, political disagreements ensue.

Yep. It was already kind of heading that way but the whole Gamergate saga and it's aftermath really ramped it up. The gaming press mostly went far left--as did this site before the exodus and a large part of the gaming overall. Another large part moved right whether agreeing with that side or just hating forced diversity, movements against sexualized female character designs in games and so on. Then the 2016 election happened and just dropped napalm on the fire and here we are.

That said, the online gaming community was always tribal and annoying in many ways, especially all the corporate loyalty/fanboyism/console warring nonsense. So it's not surprising that it was so easily divided politically as well. It's just extra annoying now as there's still all that fanboy division (sadly even on a site like this were it seems the bulk of active posters or 30+) AND all the political divisiveness on top of it.

Again, it's easy to not engage with so it's not the end of the world. It's just a lot tougher to find fun threads of people just chatting about games they're playing or excited to play once they're out. More of the active posters get drawn to the bickering threads (political/social issue or console warrior fanboy crap) and kind of drown on the other posts. The ignore thread feature helps find the gaming news and OTs more easily, but probably won't help posting activity much. It's the internet and people love to argue despite whoever they're arguing with rarely giving an inch. All you can do is just not engage, spend less time online and focus only on the threads you find fun and/or interesting and worth participating.

Also, lets be honest. I feel like the world today has gotten far more political than in the past.

The election of Trump in 2016 literally broke people's minds and has made them stop functioning in everyday life. It was only inevitable to see the fallout spread throughout all of mass media.

Just look back a few days ago, I posted a link to a Resetera thread celebrating Trump's son being attacked at a bar. No where is safe from SJW's. They will FORCE politics on you.

Everyone wants to be the next big gaming journalist. The one who cracked the code and got notoriety as the one who go it right. And if not the one who got it, than the one who followed that person from the beginning.

Resetters are STILL assblasted about Trump being president.

Tomorrow is the 4th of July, so I hope all our American users on Neogaf take a moment of silence to remember, there are people who hate your country and want to destroy your democracy with open borders while openly threatening the President at every turn. You only got one United States of America, so do everything you can to protect it from the SJW hordes that want you all dead.

Trump speaks the fucking truth. Yet Resetters still can't handle such simple facts.

No more borders = no more USA.
Well, yea Jordan. That goes for any country. Once any borders are gone, and are open, you don’t have a country anymore.

I was going to post this in Clown World but because someone asked why is there so much politics in gaming forums lately, it's relevant here:

Not even our fucking libraries are safe anymore. Everything is politicized. We cannot run, we are being surrounded.

All because a President refuses to abolish his own nation's borders. Think about it...

You seem like you're having a nervous breakdown.

Over Twitter spam.

Might wanna reevaluate what sort of "signs of the times" you get worked up over. Like, if there's a surge of border-crossings over the weekend, that causes concern! If a bookstore pokes fun at Trump supporters? Ehhh... we'll scrape by as a country.

I got banned today from Resetera because I said I wasn’t going to stop playing Mordhau just because of an interview gone poorly by the devs. Fuck that place.

They banned me saying I excused racism. The irony is how much that place is run like a nazi regime if you voice an opinion different than the majority. I hope they go down in flames for their secret discord that includes pedophiles or for telling people with mental health issues to kill themselves

So what happens when the social justice wheel turns so far that you can’t give people a label??

This trying to give everyone a special and unique tag to identity themselves is honestly the worst fucking thing to happen in the last 10 years and really does reinforce the need for proper mental health solutions instead of slapping a band aid label on things and saying everyone else is wrong.

Life simply doesn’t work like that....once you get out of school/college your gonna learn that pretty quick and unfortunately current mental health solutions are not doing enough to help address this....this sort of stuff is simply enabling this and if you want to get to the nuts and bolts it would probably give them more market share and making them money in fringe areas

Might sound pretty cold but from my experience kids coming out of school into jobs or organisations and start sprouting this sort of stuff.....get torn up and spit out

Warning: Prepare to cringe yourself at the responses.

Also, this may be double posting but it deserves its own special mention.

This is what peak 2019 looks like.
Forget the wars. Forget the SJWs. Forget the memes.

We lived long enough to see the USA be completely mocked..... by entire countries that are sending their entire population to go live there because they refuse to fix their own.

Must be a nice timeline we're living in, eh?

I want to be the first to say, the 2010s are the worst decade in all of human history.

I don't care what happened last decade, or the decade before that, or fricken 5000 BCE.

The 2010s has demonstrated that, when human beings are paired with technology that enables the quick rapid transfer of information in mere miliseconds, the results are complete shit and the complete proliferation of the lowest common denominator.

We should have been building rockets by now and going to Mars. Instead, we're stuck here on Earth, debating whether we are racists for supporting borders, or sexists for using for the wrong pronoun.

There are several bad things about the 2010s.

But, I still believe the idea that things were better in the old days is one of the biggest lies ever made by humanity, and have hope for the future and respect for how far we've come, despite all the stupidity out there.

A lot of Americans died in the middleeast last decade for essentially nothing.

I'm with you man. There are bad things about the 2010s, but people do realize that basically every decade before 1776 involved 90% of people living in misery for the benefit of a few aristocrats right?

I think it's time to take a break from GAF. That Smash harrassment thread has really disappointed me. A lot of people I genuinely thought were cool showed a side of them i didn't know existed. The majority of people I talk to on GAF usually post in here, so I figured I'd say my peace here. Love you guys ♥
