As I said, there is not much interesting to discuss there on this, which is why it is just in a post on a side topic and is not the basis for a thread on its own. In fact, if you even agree that it is not something that sparks an interesting discussion, why suggest making a topic out of it in the first place? Go to Resetera, analyse their Trump speech thread or whatever, and leave the modding to the mods.

To my best knowledge, there were zero people who commited suicide because of Trump's first win and that one was the much more surprising event. So I can already tell you the number of people who will kill themselves because of his reelection: Zero. So, as a left-leaning person, you can spare yourself four years of regression and hope for "not Trump" to win the election, because outside of more partisan bickering, a lot of sad people and four years of shit policies, nothing will happen if Trump gets reelected.

At Restera, it has always been the case that you can use "nigga", but not "nigger" wherever you want if you are black (or claim such, they will certainly not "check" it). I do not know what the policy here was prior to the split, but I remember discussions about the legitimacy of the use of usage of the word basically suggesting the same policy.

Tbh I think it was gamergate that really ignited that fire, though I may have missed earlier things (I have a funny feeling that a lot of the SJWs came to be after exiting the anti-chav movement from back in the early 00s for instance). Trump was a latecomer to the whole mess imo, a symptom rather than a cause. I'll add that, weirdly, some of Trump's policies are actually kinda left, and probably in line with his past as a Democrat supporter.

I sense you doubt my leftness. I voted Labour at the last election in the UK (and have never voted Tory), I'm a union member, and by American standards I'm far left. In terms of leftness of Trump, efforts at protecting local industries such as coal, the trade war with China (again aiming to protect/repatriate American jobs), etc are things that the left hasn't been doing lately as it forgot its roots and chased the middle-classes through identity politics, but it's the kind of thing socialists would be ok with imo. I'm a bit busy at work so apologies for not having a better answer, but I'll try to give a more detailed response at some later point.

No, I am not commenting on your leftness, I am just surprised to see such a comment form someone who has very staunchly identified as left. I am doubting the declaration of Trump's policies as left, not your political self-description. Being in a union does not make you left though, by the way, e.g. in the last bavarian election almost 15% of union members voted for the far right AfD party in Germany. I agree that Labour is a center-left party though.

Supporting coal is not exactly a left-leaning position, considering its effect on the environment. It would maybe have been a left-leaning position before ecological issues gained traction in the left, but supporting coal hasn't been a left-leaning position in a long time. The trade wars are pretty clearly coming from a nationalist position, not a socialist one. Austerity is not even a traditional socialist position, with the call for international collaboration of workers even early on.
