The sealioning thing is weird. It's not to be used for someone asking you to back up your claims in the thread it was raised (however many times). The context of the strip is that every panel is a different scenario. If you want to use it metaphorically then it would refer to someone hounding you across different threads for an answer to the first argument or 'cross thread drama'.
They use it as yet another way to avoid actually answering legitimate questions, or when asked to back up ridiculous inflated claims.
e.g.
A: Public figure is a piece of trash
B: Well actually they bought vaccines for 15 local schools and opened a homeless shelter. Just because they lobbied once for Monsanto doesn't make them a piece of shit, unless you have other examples.
A: gtfo
B: Well, thats a compelling argument. Do you have any other examples?
A: The guy was a piece of shit and if you support people like him that makes you trash
B: How?
B: User banned (duration pending): sealioning
People just love to have some kind of legit sounding buzzword that allows them to dismiss criticism or uncomfortable questions.
"Wouldn't it be great if there was some kind of word I could invoke when someone calls me out on the nonsense I say online?"
"How about Sealioning? It has a little comic strip and everything!"
At a place like Era they absolutely NEED these kind of tools because otherwise they are forced to take responsibility for their bullshit.
It amazing how many of these fucking dishonest tactics come with some "witty" comic strip that somehow bolsters their effectiveness.
When the waiter comes running over as you attempt to leave the restaurant, thinking that you are about to dine and dash, you say "woah, buddy, are you trying to shitrush me?"
The waiter goes, Shitrush? What?
You know, how a meal hasn't really been completed until I've shat out the waste remnants but the waiter is all like "but you have to pay now"? That's shitrushing. Don't fucking shitrush me!
*Proceeds to hand waiter a crappy comic that "hilariously" shows how food is not fully digested until the intestines have stopped drawing nutrients and so payment is not due until the customer is doing a shit*
Makes sense over there though that people who seem to be on a diet of crayola and play-doh get their all debating tactics from quirky comic strips.
