Official Two Worlds thread - the Oblivion killer?

Bildi said:
To be honest, any game where I narrowly avoided fatal flaws three times, and have had one quest line (Fighter's Guild) halted entirely because of a bug, is not what I would call polished. I realise Oblivion is huge, but it's rubbish that there are known bugs and Bethesda refuse to fix them (360 version). And yeah, I've put 200 hours into the game regardless :lol

Anyway, if Two Worlds can avoid the same level of game-killing bugs I'll be a happy camper. Thanks for the impressions:)

Is it more populated than Oblivion (which felt pretty dead even though it was the correct ratio of residents to buildings)?

As for bugs, so far the devs have gone out of their way to patch the game, even up to including a ton of fan-requested additions. I'm pretty confident that they'll keep that going after release, it seems they want to make people happy, which is good. I, too, put in over 200 hours into Oblivion despite it's flaws hah!

Population-wise it seems to be pretty good. Take Anvil in Oblivion for instance. You had some guards and the people in the shops would go to and from work, but really you didn't see that many people just wandering the streets, right? Well in 2W I visited the main capital city and you have the same thing, but it just seemed more crowded. Lots more guards, people walking around, even people sweeping out in front of their stores and such. It felt more alive than places in Oblivion to me.

That dragon-killing achievement is gonna be a tough one, at least judging from my limited experience with them. I decided the other day that I wanted to see the desert in the game, figuring (right, as it turned out) that it would be way, WAY above my level, but still I had to see. Getting there was half the fun. You see, in 2W the Orcs are invading, basically dividing the map in half. South of the cap city there is a river, with the Orcs occupying the south side. They've destroyed the main bridge so I swam across.

Once I was across a deep fog descended so I didn't get to see much of the Orc encampment that I stumbled through, running for my life, before finally getting murdered by an Ogre. Continuing onward, still shrouded in fog, I finally made it over near the desert, which is in the east once you cross the river. Heading up (the desert is on a plateau), the fog lifted and I got to see around me finally (see first pics below). Heading on up the hill, what should I come across but a Sand Dragon, basically blocking the way up into the desert. I couldn't resist, so I attacked. His fireball blasted into my chest and flung me back around 20 ft or so. You can see in one pic a little smoke left from his fireball.

I respawned further up in the desert and took some 360 panoramic shots, below.

Sand Dragon
Sand Dragon kills me dead
Desert panoramic shot
Desert panoramic shot 2
Bonus Necromancer Tower shot

Edit: Found some city pics that illustrate what I mean:
Capital city
Guy sweeping
The dudes just standing around are vendors.

I knew something bad would happen when I get my hopes up too much... :´((

2W has been postponed again, this time to Sept. 6th!
My retailer told me it would be due to "production problems". No word yet, if its "just" the 360 version and "just" europe... *weeps*

Thanks a lot for all that Big Nate :)

GREAT news to hear that they're serious about addressing bugs. The stupid door animation bug in Oblivion is what has caused me the most headaches and since I'm on the 360 I unfortunately can't use a command to just bypass the doors that won't open. My fighters guild quest is stuck at Azani Blackheart and thank god I didn't get stuck with the guy who accompanies you on that quest because it would have broken much of the rest of the game. I love Oblivion but that crap really pisses me off.

The towns look much nicer than Oblivion to me. People doing some other things than just walking is nice, and I like the outside things that are going on instead of just empty streets lined by buildings.

I also like that all of the objects in this game cast a shadow. Oblivion was my first 'next-gen' experience and I was disappointed the first time I got out of the sewer and found that not every object cast a shadow, especially big objects like rocks.

I also like the slight variation in areas such as the desert (even though it oes look a bit barren). Oblivion looked the same eveywhere except for a bit of snow and that got a bit boring.

Anyway, thanks for the info - this is really looking like something I could enjoy.

Wow...this is definitely a game that has been lost underneath the BioShock hype. I didn't even realize it was coming out so soon (next week in the U.S.) until I received my little GameStop email SPAM this AM.

Any reviews out as of yet? I didn't see anything at IGN.

Out so soon? The game has been delayed several times already.

Word from the 2W forums is that it has indeed passed MS cert, they are issuing a press release early next week with release date details. I'm guessing it'll be th 28th, but who knows. At least it's on its way now.

I've been keeping tabs on this (360 version)_ )and I'm interested in impression of the console version, specifically in terms of online play. I know Bioshock has captured everyone's hearts and minds, but this and MoH:Airborne are on my to do list before the Halo 3 explosion.

Also, who all here is picking up the title? I was going to pull the trigger if a couple of my close pals jumped on board, but if there's a NeoGaf clan that may sawy me into picking this up at launch. :D

I'll probably pick it up, if reviews/impressions indicate it's not too buggy.
From what Big Nate said up the top of the page, it should be fairly good on the bug front:

I'll be definitely getting the 360 version when it finally hits. My new PC could run it I'm sure, but I'm also sure the online community will be larger on the 360.

It's a huge warcamp made up of some kind of tents with maybe a hundred or two-hundred orcs there. I beat them all easily when I had to go across (my armour wouldn't let me swim).

Dragons aren't too bad really, but you'll see about that later when you actually have to go to the desert :). But yeah, at low level I can imagine they'll smoke you :P.

I reviewed it (in Dutch, so I won't even bother linking it), gave it a 7.3. It's a good game, but nothing exceptional.

I only ran into one serious bug in 1.4 (the one that was denied MS certification), I'd imagine that a 1.5 360 version wouldn't be that buggy.

Some game magazins raised their rating for the 1.5 patch I heard.

And: any news regarding the NTSC release? Gamespot still lists 2W as releasing August 21st... that would be TODAY! So, US Gaffers, rush out and tell us, if its available!
pretty please!

Haven't seen this posted yet, so I thought I'd throw it out there.

This is a short vid of the new 1.5 patch in action, included in the 360 version of the game.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7KHqyheCp4&mode=related&search=

According to the devs, all of the NPCs faces have been completely redesigned along with better lip sync. Also, it looks as if first person mode has been implemented (finally).

Have to admit that I'm much more interested in this game now. :)

The Fry's ad in today's paper says they'll have it Wednesday by Noon. They have it for $50, incidentally (360 version).

You know you´re the one to take one for the team and pick it up on this nice deal to provide fresh hands-on impressions of the 36o version?! :D

I've lost count of how many 'TWO WORLDS RELEASE DATE ANNOUNCED' bulletins have been posted on the official site but theres another one now. Quite the running joke now.

Installed the whopping 1100MB 1.5 patch to check out if it's much better. Faces look MUCH improved, otherwise, there aren't any major changes I'm aware of (aside from bug fixes obviously). Took a few shots and a short video. Had to go back all the way to the beginning (my save was at 16.5 hours near the very end of the game, didn't want to spoil that), and shot a short video of me walking around there. Also a couple of screenshots:

Screenshots are: no helmet/helmet/with spells on (+420% strength, +5000 physical protection and 150 lightning damage)

Video here, the few stutters are due to fraps being quite hard on my system (basically gives me 2/5th of the original framerate): http://stage6.divx.com/user/Retuobak/video/1549366/Walking-through-Two-Worlds-1-5
If there are any requests of stuff you'd like to see, I could try to oblige :)

Jeez, what's with these European RPGs without female playable characters? Artistic integrity be damned. :p
They should make one with just a female character option, see if anyone truly cares :lol

The PC demo is out today. Any impressions? My PC at the moment can't handle it.
I'd suggest you read the topic :P
Plenty of people (like me) have played and finished the entire game.

:D I was referring to the updated version. 1.5. I heard major changes were made with this patch, that pretty much changed a lot of the game.

The demo is patched to 1.5.

I played the full version patched to 1.5 earlier, see a few posts above :P
But not much has changed, it's a couple of bugfixes and MUCH improved faces. Aside from that, nothing much improved. Largest flaw of the game to me is still how unremarkable everything is, nothing surprises you, everything you've seen before etc. Not what I want in my games.

I think many of us just want another Oblivion type of experience. It doesn't really have to be anything remarkable or innovative, just more of the same type of gameplay that we enjoy.

If they can deliver that in a decent looking package with plenty of quests, numerous creature types and a huge world to explore then that's good enough for me. :)

This game reminds me more of Gothic for some reason.

Someone posted gameplay footage on gamefaqs.

Thanks for the clip. I wonder what sort of rig that guy is running it on? It looks about as choppy as if I tried to run it on my ghetto PC.

The dialog has always cracked me up (and not in a good way).

Player loots a corpse - "that's interesting!"
Player gets attacked by Orcs - "interesting guests!"
Player confronts a dragon - "this might be interesting!"

:lol @ the sounds and voices during battle. Why do sword hits sound like he is punching slabs of meat?

The fact that this game doesn't have a single review isn't a good sign.

It's surprisingly small actually, the game seems a lot larger than it really is at the beginning. I was done with most stuff after 16.5 hours. Finished most quest lines, did a ton of sidequests, finished the main quest. Oh, and the gameplay isn't really Oblivionesque, the core gameplay is more like a simplified Diablo 2. You can't block during combat for instance, it's all just ramming the attack button with a handful of (mostly useless) abilities thrown in between.

Oh, and a tip, don't invest in the skill to dismount enemies with a halberd. I mean, I'm sure it's a nice skill and all, but for it to be really useful, the game could've used actual enemies on horses.

Dialogue voices are worse :/, voice acting is quite bad.

So anyone wanting to see another bit of the game?

@ release date:
This is really a running gag now. Yesterday evening I got a mail from my retailer, that it wont be Sept. 6th, but already come next week. New date: Aug. 28th.
On Gametrailers they had two banners of 2W yesterday, one reading "available Aug. 21st", and "in stores Aug 24th"... :lol

@ demo:
It has been said that a demo would come with the release of the game, so it should arrive any minute. But there have been said so many things.... :D

I hope the rumblings about 7th september in the uk are wrong though.

That was the initial date given to retailers, that it would be postponed to week 36 due to "production difficulties". But two days later they backtracked and said it would be week 35. My preordered Royal Edition is now dated for Aug 28th. :)

That's awesome ^^^ :lol :lol

This game sounds alot better on paper it seems. Should be a nice rental or 20$ game, you agree Kabouter? I'm on a tight tight budget right now.

$20/30 is the most I'd spend on it, especially if you're on a tight budget.
