Official Two Worlds thread - the Oblivion killer?

with the way this is being handled... I see the price of this dropping.... FAST!... I'll pick it up around the $39 mark.

I just got done playing for several hours. The game is pretty good overall. Aside from the negatives I mentioned earlier (voice acting, framerate), the game holds up pretty well. It's no masterpiece, but if you're a fan of the genre, you'll find plenty to enjoy.

Combat: I've been playing a melee-centric character, so i can't say much for bows or spells, but the melee combat is done reasonably well. Your character will "lock" onto enemies, and will generally concentrate on it unless you can no longer get to it (if say an enemy moves between you) at which point it will stick to the intervening enemy. It's not uncommon when fighting multiple foes for stray sword slashes to hit enemies you're not locked on, if they happen to get in the way. The locking works pretty well, even though it's automatic and can't be controlled directly. If you turn around, it will generally pick a new enemy in front of you, but it's not so easy to pick one out of a crowd if they're all on one side. There is no block button as parry is a passive character skill, but you can dodge (more on that later). The left trigger is spells, which for me is generally a heal spell, and the left and right bumpers drink potions. Mana = left, Health = right.

When faced with groups of enemies, you need to keep yourself from getting surrounded, and try to let as few attack you at once as possible. When faced with a single enemy, the "jump back" (B button) move is perhaps a bit overpowered. I was able to take out an Ogre, which was able to kill me in one hit, and I could hardly damage at all with each swing of my weapons, while only dying once. It took me about 15 minutes, but eventually I was able to wear it down. As soon as you're dealing with multiple enemies, the move is no longer nearly as useful, since you can't just wait for the attack animation to start and hit it "ftw." Hopefully the stonger enemies later in the game (Dragons etc) either have cohorts, or have attacks which aren't easy to dodge, or I could see these fights being a bit stale.

The Story is pretty standard fare. Your sister has been kidnapped, and some guys are using her for extortion on you. I won't spoil too much, but the story so far in the early game is that of a reluctant hero, doing what he must for his sister. Sure it's cliche, but it facilitates the game reasonably well and fits into the story of the game world, which is starting to reveal itself to me now. There's a lot going on, and tons of NPCs to talk to, plenty of whom are off the beaten path.

I'm not exactly sure how big the world is, since there is no included paper map with the game (Though the manual is nice - full color and all) and the in-game map extends outside the boundaries of the screen and can't be scrolled that I've figured out. It's certainly not small though. I've traveled around a lot in my few hours of play, and I've yet to travel past the edges of the map as you see it from the beginning of the game. As you move, it will scroll with you, so I've been able to see a bit more, but still have not seen the edges, other than an ocean on the west side. The game world has teleporters scattered about, so getting across the map is pretty easy once you've traveled to and found them.

The voice acting doesn't seem as bad (with a few exceptions) as when I started. I'm not sure if it's a case of lowered expectations, or if it really does get better. There's plenty of cringe-worthy moments still, but there have been a few characters which were OK at least.

It's a decent game if you like the genre. It's sort of right in my wheelhouse, so I'm having a good time with it. Your mileage may vary.

This is everything I would say. I'll use a comparison list for those of you still on the list who don't want to read all that:

Controls:
Magic System: Oblivion
World: Oblivion forests;Gothic 2 cities/villages
Framerate: Fable 1 or KOTOR 2; 10-15fps outside/in town
Voice Acting: Gothic series

Gamefly just sent me this today. This shit is pure gold. I like how they did no testing for the game, they just said fuck and gave it to us as is. I'm having a ball with it.:lol :lol

Edit: I'm not going to lie to you, the game is pure shit, the fun is hidden somewhere far and in between. The framerate has to be about 15fps and the blood effects are ripped straight out of Diablo 1. This game could run on the Playstation 2 at the same performance.

You have to remember
This is version 1.5, which on the PC is a 1.1GB patch.
Imagine what the German 1.0 PC release was like.

Just got my copy from Gamefly too. This is probably one of the worst games I've ever played.

Its dudes like you that are just saying this garbage to say it, watch that video and enlighten yourself.

I bought it, and I can't wait to trade this sucker in!

The framerate SUCKS BIG TIME! :-( I MEAN LIKE SINGLE DAMN DIGITS!!

THE multiplayer is UNPLAYABLE!

THE voice acting is HORRID!

Story? WHAT STORY?

THE sound effects really STINK TOO.

Back to BIOSHOCK TA TA

You know, the sad thing is that this looks like it could've really been a half-way decent game had they locked it in at 30 fps and focused on a first-person view.

I probably would have bought it under those circumstances, even if everything else seemed a bit janky.

Don't listen to this man, I am telling you people do not buy this. Rent it if you must, the framerate\pop up and shit load times alone will turn you off it. This guy is just a viral marketer, he's been posting this link on GFAQS too.
huh.. I'm telling people who are interested to read user reviews who have the game and like it.. and explain why they do. You have you opinion and others have theirs.

Oh, I found that video link on TXB btw. nice try troll

The video seemed fine to me, but I am hearing a lot of complaints about the framerate problem.

I am going to try out the demo for the PC, but after I upgrade my PC, since I don't think a 6600gt will handle it.

Just watched that video... that is some horrid combat.

:lol . yeah, I posted a link a somewhere on this page (middle probably), and someone described the combat as slabbing a piece of meat.

You're calling me a troll? What type of lucid dream are you living?:lol

I can't wait to rent this. It looks like the type of bad game that's enjoyable to play if only to laugh at its numerous flaws.
(Mainly) It only has one voice actor too, so it's the same guy talking to himself over and over and over and over again.:lol

Fucking sign me up. I have a really weird video game fetish for awful voice acting.

I think I can definitely wait to (hopefully) get from Sacred 2 what I wanted (roaming, uncomplicated fantasy craziness) from this game. I was so keen on the first screenshots they ever released for this game - but we've come a long way (down) since then, it seems.

If that carries over to movies then you should rent Sinbad the Sailor, starring Lou Ferrigno.

I'll make my own opinion up thanks.

Multiplayer is absolute DOGSHIT. There's tons and tons of lag, some players see black boxes and disappear entirely, and quest givers disappear from the game!

There's no support for this game from the creators online (detailed quest givers, etc) and there's no support for this game on the Xbox360 (currently only PC!)

The whole reason that the 360 version was delayed so long was because the PC upgrade to 1.5 was updated on the 360 version! There's no detail about classes in the book for multiplayer, and they copied the Xbox Live multiplayer text verbatim from the Xbox Live website! :lol

This is quite possibly SHITBILIVION.

Good to see the game is getting the reviews it deserves. I warned you guys earlier to not get your hopes up for this one. It's getting some really funny swedish reviews at the moment :lol Most of them say that it's probably a great game in the code somewhere but all the bugs and techical mistakes makes it unplayable.

Pretty much as expected from how the PC version felt. Go buy Blue Dragon instead for some nice old school rpg goodness. Or wait for Mass Effect.

I love Two Worlds....

Load times? What are you talking about? There are almost no loadtimes. If you teleport across the map, it's 1-2 seconds max. The loadtimes are infinitely better than Oblivion.

Either way, it's underpolished, but once you get into it, it's addictive and real fun. I'm having a blast mowing down packs of wolves with my dual-wielded swords. Nothing like a meat cleaver in one hand, and a machete in another one.

Worth $60? Sure. If your dying for an RPG like myself. If it gets patched right, it's a must-buy at the $40 level.

Funny, I just ran to the ocrs village right now, and got about three loading disk that lasted 5 to 10 seconds each. The loading is worse than Oblivion when on foot.

I must have a screwed up copy, or my cache is clear. I haven't had much of any loadtimes.

A few times, I've teleported from Brumhill (where the orcs destroyed it) to the westernmost village, and had NO load times at all.

I fail to see why folk that hate the game still hang around the topics like a bad smell. Not saying you have to like it but doing your best to deter others just smacks of stupidity.

OH GOD. I just rented the game and played for about 5 minutes.

This is the worst fucking animation I've ever seen.. and the beginning cutscenes? did they render those in fucking standard def? It's all grainy and nasty. God, I'm not even sure I can play more (but I will to see more), but wow, first impression is I wouldn't pay more then 8$ for this. I feel sick.

yeah.. played for more, did some gameplay.. if you can call it that. the framerate never goes above 15-20fps and it's just not fun to play. time to bring it back.

The more I play this, the more divided I am.

Seriously, did they ACTUALLY think the fucking voice acting was good when they recorded it? How the FUCK in this day and age can you even consider that passable voice acting? This is as bad as Resident Evil 1.

But at the same time, the alchemy and weapons crafting system is GREAT, if not confusing. How bad is it that you have to hit back to see the controls?

I put about 6 hours into this game last night.. have no clue why oblivion gets a pass from everyone on the frame rate, and load times. and this game gets hammered for it.. they perform about the same.

don't get me wrong i loved oblivion, and i'm really enjoying this. but from reading these boards i was expecting a slide show.

The voice acting, and dialog really are bad though.

bottom line. if you enjoyed oblivion, and want more of the same, this game will do a nice job of filling the void until ES4.

One thing positive about the videos I've seen, it looks like some animals attack in packs. Thats a welcome change from,

1 wolf , 1 imp and 1 bear Well I ain't seen my baby since I don't know when....

A local import shop had this. I managed to blag them into firing it up on their machine. Must say despite a few niggles and only an hour of play before outstaying my welcome I was impressed. Reminds me of Morrowind (one of my all time fave rpgs) with a diablo slant to the combat. Awesome (well, for me anyway).

Sure there are niggles and flaws but I can see myself getting very very addicted when it comes out here on the 7th september.

I think you mean ES5 :)

I played it for about 8 hours today. So far, I'm very unimpressed, and have had far more "Man, this blows" moments than "OMG AWESOME!" ones.

I suppose if you're a diehard fan of the genre you'll get it regardless, but so far there isn't much to get non-diehard fans to like it.

I just beat the game, oh man, the both endings were :lol :lol :lol and less than thirty seconds no less, and not only that. The second ending makes no sense. The only good thing about this game is the voice acting (lol) and the incestuous relationship. I just shipped this shit back today. Atleast I got 700 points out of it.
