OK. Be honest. Has the PSP launch price changed your mind?

Is anyone going to get that crazy bundle from EBgames? $399, thats crazy.

I'll probably go that route (I got a $300 award at work for being a good employee or something, which makes it easy to justify...).

Honestly, yes. I am gonna wait until I can buy the unit only at a cheaper price, and get my own choice of accesories. I understand why they are doing this with the shortages and what not, if the alternative choice was more up snuff I'd prob buy the alternative, but I really have no interest in the DS at his point, so I can wait.

The system price doesn't bother me half as much as the software price does. So the system is 50 dollars more than I expected it to be? I can stomach that, after all they are throwing a bunch of crap at me to make it slightly more appealing. That extra 50$ is a one time investment, and I'd basically look at it as paying a bit extra to own the system earlier, as in before the first price drop.

40$ software on the other hand is a problem I will have to deal with every time I buy a game. I usually get at least 20 games per system I buy, and assuming I buy all of my PSP games new that's 200$ more then I thought I'd be paying for those games. Even buying used or discount will be effected by the originally higher price in some form or another.

40$ software will force me to compare every PSP game purchase I make to the currently available console purchases. Will it be worth it to buy this new portable game when I could be picking up a new console game for just as much? Also, if I eventually get a DS as well I'll be much more likely to pick up the cheaper DS software in any month where something good comes out on both systems. Sony needs to prove to me that PSP software is really worth the extra cash. Heck, they need to prove to me that portable gaming in itself is worth about the same price as console gaming. Otherwise they really need to consider dropping software prices to 30$, and until I hear otherwise or see some better games I'll be holding off on purchasing a PSP.

I'm buying several psps only because I know there are people out there who will pay $500+ for a psp. I'll make a killing on ebay.

Size of the PSP has changed my mind. It's just a little *too* big. The screen is just overkill to be honest. The whole unit looks too beautiful and as such, I'd be worried about iusing it in any public place and certainly not on transport lest you feel like a knife through the gut. I'm actually expecting a shitload of mugging stories to hit the papers in the UK when it's released.

yeah, the price definitely has "put me off" of the system for the time being.

i would have buckled and bought one at launch for sure before, now i'll wait till the price drops or when more games i want become available (whichever comes first). i'm quite dissapointed with the 250 price point and bundled "extras"

It's not actually trolling if you don't admit it

But you would have bought one if they had a $200 core version? Just curious...

The recent outbreak of disfunctional buttons, high premium and probably the insane shortage on the launch, not to mention lack of games that I must have now and, now, pretty high price mark is actually pushing me towards not getting it for another few months after launch.

Pretty much same goes to DS, sans disfunctional buttons and high premium.

Now more than ever, I am convinced that I should wait a few more months when its abundant to go around with plenty of good games.

possibly. really, i was hoping for a 150 core package. whether thats realistic or not doesnt matter :D

at 200, i probably would have said "ah fuck it" and snagged one and RR at launch... but 250 really is pushing it too far. like i said though, even at 250, when other games i'm dying for are out (cmr), i may still pick one up...

No, the price hasn't changed my flipflopping mind. At $250 it's still a steal and i have a 512mb memory stick already. It's the games that keeps making me rethink whether i should buy one or not. If i have the money I'll probably break down and buy one at or near launch.

And even i am moderately surprised

lol. Been thinking about this myself. I'm coming to London in March, and will be going "'oop North" to see my family.

Given that people have been beaten to death in my home town for "not being from around here" (this is more crazy that it sounds - some poor soul had the misfortune of being from Durham, which isn't actually that far away, and so, was beaten to death for his 'crime') , then i'm somewhat apprehensive about whipping out the PSP on the BR to Carlisle...

$250 is a wonderful price for what you're getting. I have no clue as to why people are complaining (outside of the usual "it's GAF" line of reasoning)

I agree, it's expensive compared to previous handhelds, but this seems like a decent price for all the extras this system provides/ comes with. Comparable electronics releases in the past have had much higher introductory prices.

I just prepaid for my PSP at Gamestop.

The guy behind the counter was pretty low-key about the whole thing - no hype, no 'good idea it's going to be crazy!', no pressure to get some games/accesories or extended warranty.

Maybe that'll come later.

The guy did print out a list of games for me but didn't have a price. He mumbled something about '49.99' but when I shot him a suprised look he backed off and said 'Uh it's not in the computer yet'.

Anyway it'll be good not to have to wake up early and try to score a system on launch day.

The price has actually made me more confident in my decision to purchase a PSP for some reason. I know it's illogical, but it just makes me feel a lot better about it. I'm interested in Wipeout Pure, Twisted Metal: Head-On, and Lumines as launch games.

Honestly, I have an iPod for music and I should have a tablet PC soon, so that'll cover my ebook needs (including comics), so I could probably justify swallowing the $50 extra for a value pack I largely don't want or need, by just limiting myself to only using the PSP for gaming purposes. As it is, the only thing I can see myself using it for outside of games anymore is possible tv/movie watching, and that's not all that important to me.

Having rationalized myself into accepting the lack of a PSP core pack, I'm still stuck with another problem. The game prices are way too high. I had a hard time rationalizing my purchase of Zookeeper for the DS last week at an MSRP of $35, and that's in the high range of DS titles.

As it stands, I don't think I'll have the cash on hand to get a PSP at launch, but I still want to get Lumines and Metal Gear Acid in case they disappear, but at a price range of $40~$50, I'm not sure it's going to happen.

it just isn't going to be worth it, with the likelyhood that something will be wrong with the hardware in the first batch..

plus, the games aren't so hot yet, either..

i can wait.

I'm more worried about the $49 prices that ebgames.com and gamestop.com are posting for PSP software than the unavailability of core systems for $200 at launch. I was expecting games to be $30-40 rather than $40-50. The prices listed seem pretty out of whack: Ridge Racer and WipeOut Pure for $40, but Darkstalkers and Lumines for $50? I'm hoping these are just placeholder prices until more information is available, since I can't really justify $50 for a handheld game.

Why do you post some variation of this in every US PSP thread? Nobody's particularly impressed :lol

For me it has never been about the price, but quality, and I don't trust Sony with quality right out the door, especiallly for a handheld. Why would I ever pine and pray and beg to hope to be one of the first ones with a first-run Sony product? My waiting game has not changed. The good thing is that when quality goes up, price goes down and the increased efficiency in production means I can walk in a store and just buy one like I'd buy a regular game, so either way I win big.

Good to see so many willing testers though *thumbs up*

I'm pretty sure I'll still buy one, but now I'm not 100% on it. My import unit will probably be able to hold out a little while longer.

This is a good attempt at trying to rationalize your way out of buying one at launch. :p

One thing I'm wondering is if the systems will have a POS UPC on them. The Japanese ones weren't scanned (from what I can tell). I hope there's none for the US systems.

I was on the fence for the past few months.. The only reason I will ever pick up a system is if it has at least 3 games that I want. The only game I want on PSP is Lumines...

And since I could care less about it's other multimedia fuctions, there's no reason to pay over $300 for a handheld system and a puzzle game.

I'll just import Meteos for the DS and hope it's half as good as Lumines.

No way, not even Nintendo is getting my dollars until at least July, and their stuff is rock solid.

Also there is th....e......

Your tag is... interesting. I want one like it. Give it to me. Give it to me faster.

OMFG HOLY MOTHER OF MARY IN HEAVEN I CANT BELIEVE IT WTF WHERE ARE MY SEDATIVES AAAAHHH
The Ridge Racer whore in me cannot, and WILL NOT deny a Sony PSP...no matter what the cost! That being said, the PSP will not get nowhere near the amount of usage that the new laptop I buy in March will get. I was going to use a psp while at work, but now that I am in the position to bring a laptop to work with me, I see no reason why I would game more on a psp than a freakin full blown power notebook.

So yeah I'll still buy one, but it'll be used mostly for standing in long lines at the groceries and the occasional waiting for your name/ticket number to be called at(insert inexplicably boring place here).

I forsee alot of you breaking down after a few weeks/months once everyone starts posting PSP topics both positive and ninegative. Some of you will whait for a cut around turkey day but will eventually end up paying up the ass at ebay cuz you where to damn stubborn to just give sony your money like you should have right away.

Yeah, message board hype may contribute to me buying a US PSP even though I imported :p

Yeah, I'm starting to calm down and juice up my brain after yesterdays hype train and I'm realizing something.

I just want a portable media player. :/ I don't even like any of the games announced so far that much, with the exception of maybe Mercury.

Was never a big puzzle fan, so no Lumines. And Puyo I already got, plus it's boring SP.

Card game MGS with no story or official hype so far? I dunno. MGS2/3 was pretty backed up by Konami, but this. I don't know a single thing about it except it's probably more boring and has a lot of counting involved. >_<

Car games, everyone likes car games! Ok, what do I like? WRC, RSC2, basically any dirt driver. *tumbleweed* Ok. Other car games then. Ridge Racer? That game series I dropped at a friends house playing it on PS1? Nah. NFS: Rivals. Wellll.. it sounds more tempting than RR, but I didn't really take a shine to the whole underground thing, so it's basically a meh card. And let's not even talk about "col1n".

Fighting then? Nope, too damned boring SP. Can't play any fighting game SP.

So what else have we got? Sports? Nah. No. Just no. And then... nothing?

Help me pick up a PSP GAF! Need some upcoming games to make it worth it. :(

All this "$40 is too much for software!!" talk makes me laugh. You'll still find GBA games retailing for up to $55 in the UK/Europe. Some of you have no idea how lucky you are when it comes to the prices you pay for gaming products.

$250 = £130, I'd import a PSP at that price surely.

To the topic creator: Yes, this has effected me. I'm gonna wait for some price drop(s) to occur before I pick a PSP up.

I think for me it has. I'm still not sure but 300 Canadian is a lot since I would just use it for its multimedia capabilities (initially anyway).

So, I'll probably wait until it reaches 250 Canadian.

The sad thing is it won't matter because demand will still greatly out weigh supply. Good luck finding a PSP, post-launch, if you change your mind.

If the Revolution launch period (that means the full first six months) has a drought like this, Nintendo can forget about it right now.
I can all but guarantee this exact scenario.

Oh, I'm still getting a PSP.

I still chuckle at all the complaints about not buying shoddy Sony hardware at launch. If anything, the hardware is going to be the sturdiest at launch before deals are made to get lower priced components for the interior.

My 1st generation Playstation is still alive and well with absolutely no problems what so ever (all later version have various overheating/skipping/lockup problems), my PSOne rocks the house with it's kickass Sony screen, and my 1st generation PS2 is still trucking along at a steady pace. Also, I don't know anyone personally that has had any problems with any Sony launch console. So yeah, you may be right :D
