I don't get how ads like that aren't blatantly illegal and cracked down on. It's fraud, at best, isn't it? What else would you call basically vandalizing someone's personal property and lying to them about the cause for the purpose of extorting money?

I'd love to see these ads traced back to their sources and have those responsible hit with an individual charge for every device the ad's ever appeared on.

I got one a while back, went into settings and cleaned it up.

Welcome to mobile GAF. It seems to happen in waves for me - it'll be fine for quite awhile and then suddenly I'm getting redirects and pop-ups and whatnot on a near constant basis for a period of time.

The companies may be working from countries where enforcement is lax to non-existent, the countries lack laws that make these illegal.
Elsewhere, the ad may be reported and subsequently can't be shown but its makers or host cannot be necessarily charged with anything.

Yeah, they can get pretty bad at times. The shocking thing is it's gotten better from where it used to be. Definitely report it in the sticky thread if you happen to notice what ad it is.

I keep reporting and among to block a certain ad that forces me to the play store, but a few pages later it happens again. I don't think it's a Google network ad in my situation.

We keep hearing how the ad team is working on it.

And yet the ads never go away despite the number of complaints...

Doubtful.
More likely, 1 goes away, and 2 others come up to take its place.

I've given up posting in it. It has 2/3 of a million views in just over a year.

I'm sure EL and the ad team are working very hard, but they're using a bucket to stop a cruise liner from sinking.

And this thread will be more effective why?...
