A lot of folks have noticed how Shane from 1up / EGM come across as a Sony enthusiast and Xbox downer (when it comes to PS3 / Xbox 360 issues; let's ignore Nintendo here). My feeling applies to all gamers who are considered so called "fanboys", but it is more relevent to an editor in a gaming industry like Shane himself. If he considers himself as a gamer and loves to play videogames, how can he be so negative about one console (the 360) while so enthralled about most of the games released or to be released for the PS3? I know I am making a generalization since there's got to be a game or two that Shane enjoys on the 360 (or is there?), but listening to him week in and week out on podcasts just makes me scratch my head thinking, is this guy for real? The latest example came up during 1upYours, where he was just so down on JRPGS and others for the 360, while being pretty upbeat about games for the PS3.

Does anyone know whether he enjoys any game made specifically for the Xbox 360? He seems to be in love with GT5 for the PS3; if so, does he at least play Forza 2? Halo 3 may not matter since he seems to dislike FPS.

Please tell us why Lost Odyssey deserves splooge and praise, maybe then Shane will consider not downplaying it.

Until then, it remains FFX-3 in disguise except atleast Square-Enix mixed up the battle-system/game structure for FFX-2, so what do I call Lost Odyssey? DERIVATIVE.

Shane made the observation that a lot of American gamers feel that the XBOX360 "Is the American console, this is our thing. That Halo is "our" game, this is how we fend off against Asian/European games."
I think you are feeling defensive about "your" console" too

I listen to a fair share of 1UP podcasts and I think Shane definitely play a lot more Japanese games than the average editor from 1UP.

It is fact that the 2 RPG's for XBOX360 are pretty weak sauce compared to same-generation equivalents on PS2.

Blue Dragon, Eternal Sonata against Persona 3?

btw, Lost Odyssey may not be a must-have game, but it looks like a decent game, nonetheless. There's no reason to trash it.

Japan is still very influential in the world of gaming, even if it is a smaller market than the U.S.

Shane's just the devil's advocate personality who goes against the popular opinion. Right now the perception of the PS3 is not that hot especially around the 1up/EGM offices, so he plays the role in supporting that until/if it balances out.

Remember the Soulcalibur II issue of EGM a long time ago sure you do anyway I remember in their character profile pages under "best played by" for Link it listed "Nintendo fanboys. Shane Bettenhausen. Wait, isn't that redundant?" so then when I read NeoGAF years later and started to watch the 1UP Show and read comments about 1UP Yours I was shocked to read that he was now called a Sony fanboy just a little story I thought you'd find interesting.

That's not fair to Dan at all. His scores for many overly hyped 360 games are the same as most reviewers for gamerankings. Shane, OTOH, are one of the few who gave 9s to Motorstorm and Heavenly Sword .

Whats wrong with him giving a 9 to Heavenly Sword? Its not that far from the average score, its not like he gave 9 to a game with average scrope of 5.5. I don't see anything wrong with the Motorstorm 9 either.

He gave a 6 to Genji, even though he had "played up" the game during Podcasts. Sounds fair to me.

Maybe because its okay for them to be an Xbox fanboy but not a Sony fanboy? Why not make a thread about the Nintendo fanbboy Jeremy perish or the PC fanboy Jeff. Or about the two ex 1up employee then went to work for Microsoft. One of them even constantly overrates Xbox games in his reviews. I hate this double standards.

Unh, 360 has a good variety of games this generation. And Shane has played Blue Dragon on the 360 and as per the last podcast he did enjoy it too. He did not think it was on par with FF though and he is correct about that.

Heavenly sword is not a bad game. There's a big perception out there as if it's a bomb disappointment like LAIR because IGN gave it a 7 at the same time LAIR's getting mediocre scores everywhere, erase that from your thoughts please. HS has a critical reception of above 80% on average, and is a very good game with only slight shortcomings to prevent it from becoming great.

Going to set the public perception straight one person at a time if necessary. You're the first ;o

In all seriousness, does Shane actually post here, and if so, is he Wario, or someone else? I know he's not Y2Kev since I played Kev many times in Forza 2, and he isn't Shane.

The expectations were unreasonable because people were branding stuff like it and Lair as system-sellers.
