Sony is playing with fire by upsetting certain Japanese developers which sets them apart from the competition and gives them a distinct advantage. Running them away to Switch and PC could be catastrophic to them.

I do wonder about one thing though. This could be a ridiculous suggestion, but couldn’t developers just try to create more adult looking characters for some of their games instead of characters with child-like appearances? I know youth is celebrated in Japan, but if it is causing censorship it could potentially lead to missing out on sales. I’m thinking the youthful appearances is mostly what is causing this commotion with Sony and unfortunately for Japanese developers(and some of us), Sony caters more to the West then anywhere else. Sony probably care more about keeping bigger companies like Naughty Dog and Insomniac happy more than the smaller Japanese developers.

Developers imo should have total freedom to create what they want, but if it’s causing all of these problems especially in the West, maybe something needs to be re-evaluated? I don’t know.....honestly, it probably wouldn’t help.....

Switch (and PC) turning into the new japanese geemu machine by the day. Sony is crazy for doing this. Why the fuck would you start policing your games? That's what ESRB is for.

Agreed, but it’s probably to appeal more to the West. I don’t think it’s coincidence this policy started when this politically correct movement crap started. They probably don’t want bad publicity or something.

I don't understand why western games can have full body nudity like you see in Order 1886 but Japanese games gets censored? Having anime artstyle make the nudity worse?

I just hope this stupid policy doesn't effect Catherine Full Body.

I bet it gets a pass because of Rin's inclusion. Sega is also a bigger company who has shown they'll take franchises elsewhere.

Does it make a difference that they look like they're about 8?

As long it's clear the characters are adults, I don't think it's a crime or shame to look younger than your age.

I wonder where you live where children are that well endowed...
When I was on the 10th grade, I had a 15yo girl in my class waiting to be 18yo to be able to remove 500-750gr from each boob. And there were other girls already with considerable sized boobs, but not as big as hers.
So yes, minors with big boobs exist.

Should call themselves Soyny at this point. How pathetic. Really wondering if TLOU 2 will have a sex scene.

Wouldn’t surprise me actually. Nudity and of course gratuitous, extreme violence in western games are absolutely fine. It’s half the naked anime girls or scantily clad females in Japanese games that seem to ruffle people’s feathers.

I just don't get who is getting affected by releasing these games uncensored. I don't like these types of games.... so I just don't buy them. There, problem solved.
It's not even full nudity or anything

Nintendo is a-okay with the anime tiddy but Sony is going out of their way to censor it at every turn. What a time line.
The newly found popularity of Fire Emblem has made Nintendo fully embrace waifus.

Let's not forget they have Nowi:

A character that looks, acts and talks like she is 10 but you can then put her in a relationship and marriage with a bunch of much older looking characters.
But it's ok because she is actually a 10.000 years old Dragon...even though literally nothing about her reflects that

It's basically the moral police getting outraged at the lewd content and claiming that it is harmful to women without showing any evidence. They want control over what consumers play because they think they know what's best for you. Therefore, they feel entitled to make the decisions and curate the content for you rather than allowing personal agency to do its thing.

It's Atlus, so Sony will probably let it slide, you know like how in SoulCalibur VI we can currently customize Talim in Ivy's clothes or tiny bikinis (if it's like the other girls then even her crack would be showing), when she's 15 and very small, and less unrealistic than this game, yet Sony had no issue approving that since it was Bamco.

Bully the little guys that lack the money and influence to stand up for themselves. For the players!

I wonder what Japanese gamers are thinking right now after seeing their Japanese games censored because there is few people in another country offended by anime fanservice.
And why do these eternally offended people always act like they're required to buy or look at these games at gunpoint? But I guess not standing up against the evils of anime fanservice is simply just not acceptable. I mean we are literally living in the most degenerate age mankind has ever seen, but somehow these anime tiddies (not even naked at that), just can't let ya see em.

They have made a shit load of money by simply making a good console this gen and starting out with the above attitude. I can't think of the last pro-gaming bit of news out of Sony that wasn't the result of huge pressure and outrage. Studio closures, anti-consumers policies, cancel fan expo, and now anti-dev policies is all that comes to mind.

I don't really understand it, unless Laydon is the new Stephen Elop. hmmmm

Regardless, there is a big opportunity for Microsoft with the upcoming generation, and it looks like they are going all in with the big spending, studio acquisitions, PR wins, and innovative pricing plans, Nintendo's successful fusion of handheld and home console seems to worked. I wonder if Sony thinks merely having a good console but without the 4theplayers attitude will work. PS5 reveal is going to be very interesting.

This has become the recurring theme of the big 3.

Sony got arrogant with PS3 launch, made way for MS' rise and Nintendo becoming relevant in the console space and not just handheld space once more.

MS and Nintendo got arrogant, led to the Wii U and almost led to the DRMBOX One, not to mention Nintendo's insane censorship that they started putting into place that all accumulated in Tokyo Mirage Sessions and Bravely Second, and what NoA did with Xenoblade Wii and multiple Fatal Frames. All this led to the PS4's domination.

Now we're back again, Sony are now a worse version of Nintendo a few years ago, people are in love with Nintendo again who are currently not letting NoA be total dicks, and MS are currently a thing that still exists.

Moral of the story is all 3 are morons that are unaware that there market share has consistently been based on which one is currently the less of a dick for the last 13 years strait, so maybe each should try not being a dick and continuing to not be a dick after they "win" if they want to keep said market share. Seriously, don't be a dick!

The real moral of the story is not to be loyal to either Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft. I choose which console to buy soly base on games alone. I have zero loyalty to none of the big 3. I chose to buy 360 instead of PS3 in early last gen because it has more games I’m interested in.

The Horror! They censored out soft pornographic images in a porn game that they have the right to blur out! The moral outrage! How will our children ever get to see degrading pictures of imaginary anime women?!?
Grow up, mate. You know full well the reason why people are annoyed so please take your "moral high horse" out back and shoot it.

I understand in a way why they've done it. But i mean if the ERSB and PEGI said it's fine, i see no issue.

And if this is for Japan, too... It's kinda crazy to me. You'll piss off the wrong people. They'll just move elsewhere so I guess it's just sony's loss.

Are Sony going to censor the Yakuza 3-5 remasters? If not, it looks like a case of them bullying smaller developers/publishers which makes them look even worse.
They already did. They have removed certain things from the Yakuza 3 remaster.

Yeah I guess so.
Have always found that line of thinking funny.

"Violent games make kids become violent and should be banned": Absolutely not!, that's a false an ignorant claim with little to no studies backing it up
"Half naked anime girls will make people become sexist and should be heavily censored": Yeah, that's the right call... ban them if you must!!!!!

The big 3 console makers have this weird thing where they seem unable to remain consumer friendly once they are doing well. As soon as they have been leading for a while they start to test how far they can push it with stuff like this, until it backfires and it's back to playing the good guys.

I've enjoyed my Ps4 this gen and I still think Sony makes the better games. But I sort of wish Xbox kicks their asses early next gen so they start to try harder

There is a large progressive puritan wing at Sony America, and they are censoring anything a male hetero gamer might find sexy.

Patiently waiting for the last of us 2 and its celebration of lgbt sexuality.
Bullshit. Look at God of War and a million other games like Soul Calibur that just came out. If "anything a male male hetero gamer might find sexy" means 15 year old girls with giant tits, you have a point. I am a heterosexual male and I find childish looking girls being made into sexual objects to be pretty creepy, and I'm surprised someone would defend it. I don't have a culture war to fight though, so...

Your comment makes no sense. Aside from the "let's compress to games" which literally makes no sense, the Witcher came out in 2015 but I can boot it up today and play with nudity. It would be patched out if it were such an issue. Are you suggesting Cyberpunk 2077's PS4 version will have no nudity?
If you can’t understand that new rules of censorship from Sony doesn’t necessarily mean censoring older games (which could also mean lawsuits) then the problem is you don’t have the logic to see the common sense in my posts. Sorry.

Nintendo is a-okay with the anime tiddy but Sony is going out of their way to censor it at every turn. What a time line.
Good guy Sony thinking about the children, where Nintendo have fallen (according to Sony)

There is no and never will be any sensible justificiation for the double standard between, say, violence and (legal) sexual imagery in gaming so I will never support any such censorship policies. If one goes (and oh, how it goes), Sony has no leg to stand on preaching about the other.

I don't get it. What is the problem with the joke? Is it because I somewhat sarcastically implied I don't care for porn games, or are you implying that my joke had nothing to do with the issue of censorship at hand and this has more to do with limiting creativity than smut? Does a joke have to have content that you desire?

Sony has a right to request that the game be censored and the developer has the legal right to make such a game. I can believe that it porn and porn games are immoral if I want. If creativity is your issue make it about creativity, petition sony for uncensored games for the sake of gameplay, not half naked weirdos. Is it truly important to be anle to see these things? I'd imagine you'd say it's more about what this could entail for the industry rather than the actual content (filth), and I'd agree to an extent. Stifling creativity is harmful to the industry and could make a great game worse. However, this does not mean that the game cannot be completed in it's proper form (in this particular instance), just that it isn't allowed to be shown fully on this particular platform. Either way, I don't much care for garbage and if sony has the legal right to censor they can do it.

I would even say this for censoring things I like, for example Christian symbols and symbolism in a game. I might be a tad upset but I would still respect that they are allowed to do so.

Interestingly, even stomachs are to be censored now. I guess crop tops are just about to become illegal.

The sun effects are reminiscent of Burnout Revenge and Dominator, where intense sun can obfuscate the track. However, these games look signficiantly less exciting than Burnout Revenge and Dominator :(.

Of course they are allowed to restrict content on their platform, but people who like such content will not like it, which should be clear.

I have to ask though, how can one consider such imagry as above immoral? I mean, uninteresting, yes, of course, I'd even agree on that, but immoral? I cannot see who is harmed in any way through some drawings of partially undressed women.

I understand why Sony is censoring these games now. With the latest SJW movements and seeing how these games objectify women they are just protecting themselves from possible negative articles. Now more than ever, there are lots of eyes scrutinising every thing game related.

I can't see this lasting, this is intense censorship. It's right there with Nintendo censoring bikini's. I can't imagine Sony banning sexy anime art but not sex scenes in western games. I remember reading all the outrage when Tri-Ace changed the panties of a character in Star Ocean 5 citing the west as the reason.

Banning anime but not realistic sexy art or nudity is inconsistent and clearly a shot at Japanese art which can't possibly sit well in Japan and if this ends up affecting western art it can only damage Sony when the competition doesn't censor. What's the goal here? If it's about objectification then we can kiss having any sexy art goodbye, but I can't imagine that's it at all as SoulCalibur VI would be blocked as would so many other recent games. It simply can't be that. Catherine would be canned for sure then as would Dead or Alive 6.

If it's an age issue they should state that. I'm not a fan of young looking characters but I have noticed people's opinions on what a young looking character is varies drastically. Some think it has to be loli to be considered underage, others argue the entire art style is underage due to eye size. I mean, Jason Schrier form Kotaku argued the Sorceress from Dragon's Crown appealed to Loli fans. If she's a problem then everything is. Just label the characters 18 then.

Were you the same person that understood Sony had to protect the children from cross play?
